Star Wars Black Series

48. Still have the OT on VHS. And Phantom Menace. Didn’t love the PT at first, but comparing them to the Sequel Trilogy, at least they tie in to the overall lore. The ST blew it off, thus blowing their chances at making something good. Wasted the talents of all involved.

I like Force Awakens, certainly way better than any of the prequels.
The Last Jedi is a masterpiece, top tier Star Wars, as good as some of the OT.
Rise of Skywalker . . . is.

I am not as old as you guys but I will say that while I like the original trilogy, it merely served as a launching pad into the EU. I guess I was a kid and adolescent at a prime time for media, so I consider the books and video games "my" Star Wars.

Prequels kinda derailed that since they just went through and made their definitive version of what happened before the OT, but it was really Disney who just decided to gut everything that numbed my fandom.

And then it seems like over the years they realized they shouldn't have done that. At least Hasbro gave me Mara and Dark Forces and now KotoR.

Not QUITE 50 but watched everything as it came out except the aforementioned cartoons. I was iffy on how I felt about the prequels when they came out, but to be fair, I PROBABLY would've watched them anyway, but IIRC when they were airing live they were either on a channel I wasn't paying for or at a time when I was working or some combination of both it was a hassle to watch them, and by the time I had access there was like a hundred episodes to catch up on. I binged CW and then immediately binged Rebels, and since then I've been watching the animation as it comes out too.

I'm knocking on the door of 49. Don't recall seeing the movies in theaters, but maybe Jedi? Definitely watched them repeatedly on VHS. Watched Ewoks and Droids. 3 kids in my class had the red lunchbox with Wicket and R2. Then shit really kicked off when we discovered the West End RPG. That was our jam. Read the Thrawn novels excitedly and Shadows, but tapped out on books after that.

Oh and one of the Ewok specials where the local radio station was playing the audio so we could listen to it on the home stereo while watching on the TV. That was something.

I ripped on the prequels hard when I saw them, but I cannot for the life of me remember why.

There are a lot of "that's not how I would've done it," but I've mellowed quite a bit over thinking such things are actual mistakes.

I still have the brass to call myself a Star Wars fan, but I've mostly stayed clear of Rebels, Visions, Tales of X, Bad Batch, Andor and so on.

Since the story has had 50 years of telling there is all sorts of similar but distinct elements of Star Wars. Curious if you have taken time to view fan made media. The last five years I love the toy photography develop and seeing fantastic custom dioramas and action figures. Love seeing all the creatures which I wish existed being made in scales and details I collect. To me the model making, greebling, puppetry, and costuming as done in Star Wars films captures my attention. The artistry used to tell the story draws me in. Seeing fans express that artistry enriches my experience.

Thwipp!

47 here. Seeing Star Wars at a drive-in (it was a re-release on a double bill with the 1980 Altman Popeye) is my earliest memory. My mother still has the pajamas I was wearing in the car and a note to herself about it.

There used to be a website called Force.net (or something) that had little Star Wars fan films posted to it. This is old; back when people had to use Photoshop to rotoscope lightsabres. I was fascinated by people being able to just make their own space battles or sabre fights. It was really glorious.

I think 'Duality' was the big dog at the time if anybody shared that experience.

The Force.net is still going I think. I know I’ve caught panels from Star Wars conventions that play on the YouTube channel.

Looking forward to seeing more Mando/Grogu figs tomorrow. I wonder how much overlap TBS and TVC will have. I bet they show Embo I’m both scales only TVC will have the dog. Makes wonder if both scales will get Embo and Rotta. I can see it.

Thwipp!

How's this: I watched them in whatever order they were in on the DVDs :D (Except of course the newer episodes of CW when they brought it back to finish it off). Oh, physical media, how I miss you being easily obtainable
I wanna say the order they were in on the DVDs was the airing order, which isn't chronological order. If I remember correctly, I think the first time I saw it was on Disney+, so hopping around wasn't all that difficult. It's really only the first maybe 2-3ish seasons that feature a lot of back and forth; I think from 3.5ish on they mostly became chronological. But to your point- I do miss getting up and having to switch discs as well; there was that sense of devotion. Not that I can't do it now- I have plenty of physical media- but still; somehow the ADHD always wins out.
Just got back from Mando & Grogu and was surprised how untoyetic it was.

The TBS figs we got were all from the Cold Open (ha). The ActionVerse stuff is the first half of the movie. The only figure from Act 3 we have is Sigourney.

Really surprised no Anzellans have made it out yet. But aside from Embo (was his name ever said in the movie? I hate when movies don't bother to give names to their players - same with Zeb for waayyyy too long - my companion had no idea what his name was) Rotta and Zeb, there are hardly any other speaking characters. Imperial Warlord is as generic as his name and Coyne only a little less generic. None of the droids made any impact, Embo was never even seen in good light once. None of the pilots made any impact whatsoever (hello director pilots... again).

And not one character ever moved or spoke with any urgency whatsoever, or had any energy, that made them memorable enough for my shelf. And I want Sigourney in fatigues, not the flightsuit.
I'd have to politely disagree with this. To each their own, of course, but I think Star Wars by its very nature is toyetic. Especially nowadays that they know what a juggernaut the merch is, I don't see them creating something without merch at least partially in mind. Now, was it the most toyetic in the series? I'd certainly say no to that, which actually felt a bit nice. Like I said, I think they're all made with that "coolness factor" in mind, but some are able to hide it a little better than others. I'd say M&G was arguably more toyetic than many parts of the show.

I was worried that Sigourney wouldn't have much time in the pilot gear, and I was right. I definitely hope they give us a basic Ward; it's kinda surprising that we don't have more just basic Rebellion/Resistance Base uniforms; we got Poe from TFA (and I guess by extension, Finn), Cassian, but anyone else? Does TFA Leia count, since other women at the base were wearing something different. Regardless, more uniforms- especially women- are welcome. I know it was probably done just to give us a new pilot suit with the updated articulation, but still- I wish Ward wasn't the guinea pig for that.

The Mercenary Droids made an impact on me. Not an emotional one, granted, but it was a lot of fun seeing them in action and trying to pick out all the various parts used in each one. I'd argue those might be the most toyetic in the film, though Hasbro would never give us a mix-and-match kind of thing these days.

The Anzellans, I'd say, are inevitable. They're too much of a fan favorite not to do. I can't quite tell (and haven't done any research) but are the 2 that came with the IG-12 and Grogu set 2 of the ones from the movie? Or are those 2 different Anzellans?

Agreed about the Imperial Warlord, though. I know we'll get a name in the extended media, as we always do, but at least a single mention of it would've been nice. I'll probably keep my pre-order for the figure, if only to have another generic Imperial (and the big wheeled mouse droid was a cute idea). What amused me about Coyne was that they basically just took the actor's name and ran it through a Star Wars filter. I'd have preferred a figure of him over the warlord, but maybe we'll get one if he makes an appearance in a future project; I keep forgetting he was in the show too.
