Star Wars Black Series

So I'm on a stupidly intense Star Wars kick this week and particularly into filling in my missing droid spots. Does anyone own that astromech three pack that came out a million years ago, not the one with R2 but with R2-A3, R5-K6, and R2-F2? I suddenly have a deep interest in minor astromech characters and I never got around to getting that set.

I didn't get the Plo Koon/Wolffe set today. I got in here at 1:00 PM to order it, looked at it, but I just decided not to since I have multiple of the original Plo Koon release and the original Wolffe. It kind of felt like too much of the same to merit paying $56 for.

Once it sold out though, I felt this overwhelming panic of missing out. But I remained calm, slammed my head into my computer desk 5,6, 14 times, and powered through like a champ.

There were some residual side effects, like out of nowhere just yelling out loud "Oh my Fu****g God what have I done!" and then continuing calmly and quietly doing what I was doing, and I may have broken my nose slamming it into the desk. But we're fine now. Me and the voices.......we're fine now.

I have it but they’re the old, small, original BS Astromech mold. I’d phase them out of my collection entirely if I had suitable replacements.

Thanks. I had a feeling they were the lil baby astromechs. That being said, I added a listing on eBay to my watch list last night and a half-hour later I got a 20% off offer that pushed the price down to lke 16 bucks per droid soI caved, since I do love a good random astromech color scheme.

I feel like, at least for me, having astromechs of varying sizes isn't that horrible a thing. I know that most, if not all, of the astromechs we've seen on screen were roughly the same size, but chances are there'd be at least some out there a little bigger or smaller than the others. Like Hondo's droid they released a while back- I kinda like the idea that Hondo saw this little runt of an astromech and took it in to make this crazy death machine. Same with Aphra- she took an astromech that would probably be made fun of for its size, or an outdated one that nobody cared about, and made it into a one-droid army. I don't think I have it any more, but that First Order R5 droid too- it makes sense in my head canon that the First Order would cut costs wherever they could and go for the cheaper droids. The more important ones like R2- yeah, it's nice to have a correctly sized one, but I don't mind if one or two are smaller.

Speaking of First Order droids, I'm surprised we never got BB-9E in the Black Series. I feel like such a big deal was made out of the BB units back in the day.

Did we ever get a BS EV9D9
Nope. No EV droids, medical droids, etc. So far, only Protocol and Astromech (not including one-offs like BB-8, D-0, and of course the Battle Droids, IG, and such). The Protocol droids are in much need of a redo, too, if you ask me. Now that R2 has been updated, the old C-3P0 feels even more dated. Would be nice to get others, as well, like TC-14, Triple Zero, etc.

Yeah, I don't actually mind some size descrepencies - I know LOGICALLY astromechs would all be the same size because they're not resizing droids built to fit into a standardized slot in most starfighters (like how R2 just slides in on Naboo fighters, Jedi fighters, X-wings...) but like, Steph and I have the same car a few years apart and there's a noticeable size difference, so I'm sure your usual R2 unit would vary by a few inches every few years.

I was so convinced we got him I just went to make sure we didn't. Such an easy repaint and really says how badly the merch for the sequels did that they never bothered repainting an existing droid teh size of a gumball.

Now I am actively angry we DON'T have this guy.

I feel like a remake of Threepio has got to be on the horizon, but not having a medical droid or a gonk droid is INFURRRRIATING in an irrational way.

It's been 27 years and I STILL hate how they pretend R2 fits into that socket.
Doesn’t he insert from the bottom of the ship, then extends his “neck” to get the head to pop out the top? Even the new Astromech droid has that neck column extension capability.

@NORM Not only does he have to extend his neck quite a bit, but also has to hunch his legs inward and compress their height to fit all the way in. It's just stupid when they could have made it a little wider with slots for his legs like the OT fighters had.

Way to go, Doug Chiang!
