Being along for the ride is really the only way to enjoy a franchise anymore, at least if you want to remain sane and healthy. These franchises exist to do two things and neither one of them is to cater to individual expectations - they're just there to garner the largest possible homogenized audience and make the most money for the studio and investors. So we're always gonna be unhappy if we want them to bend to our will.
(And even for smaller franchises that aren't owned by Disney - Sanderson or Dinniman or whoever aren't there to listen to audience desires, they're there to write the story they want to write as creators and it's up to the audience to decide if they like it or not and vote with their wallets.)
There's a lot of creative decisions not just since Disney took over Star Wars but some of the "what the heelllllll is going on here" Expanded Universe chaos I didn't love, for sure, but I guess it's just roll with it or move on. I said over in the Marvel thread in a similar vein, if you don't like what a franchise is doing, support a smaller one you do like, or worst case scenario, write your own to entertain yourself. That's where writers come from. (And also why those AO3 girlies writing their Supernatural fan fic are the happiest people on earth, they don't give a shiiiiit about official continuity.)
