Star Wars Black Series

Almost a Tommy Lee Jones in No Country For Old Men take. I could totally see a really awesome character arc like that with the Jedi. Being used to quelling border disputes and such, and having the Sith show up and just tear them to bits for a while because they simply can't wrap their heads around being that cruel for its own sake and having to work through it.
I did something like that in my Old Republic campaign. One player wanted to be a disillusioned Jedi who hated the Order for all the reasons in this discussion, so I leaned into it with a Blood Meridian and No Country bent for my own amusement. The Jedi's master and some dispatched "big city" Coruscant backup to the Outer Rim had your exact scenario happen to help paint the mood.

Nice!

I'm not getting the coupon, but the set is under 30 bucks even still. I've been eyeballing it less for Dirtbag Cal and more for the aliens, but that still feels like a fair price.

But. It's now bad because it was cancelled.
Yeah, half a show is not the same as half a sandwich. I also think a ton of shows collapse under cliffhangers which are usually a studio mandate in the first place. Netflix specializes in it.
Especially if you go into it with low expectations; not everything holds up to much questioning/scrutiny, but it does take the "from a certain point of view" thing that Star Wars loves to do and runs with it.
This was the major point for me. It took one of the central themes of Star Wars and poked it with a stick trying to make sense of it. Star Wars wrestles with that theme and usually loses, but this was a story in which the central premise was "a certain point of view.

It has occurred to me that I now check out on Star Wars fan debates HARD. Like even if I want to defend or cheer on a project I like, I'm so used to the toxic stand your ground-edness of Star Wars discussion I just don't enjoy participating anymore, even in rational discussions. I've got "The Last Jedi" muted on all my socials. I care deeply about Star Wars but I've come to not give a shit about anyone else's opinion on Star Wars. Unless it's Andor, because Andor is objectively a masterpiece. I think that's why I enjoy the animated stuff more - the most toxic of the fanbase seems to pretend the animated shows don't exist, so we can enjoy them in peace.

Speaking of, I saw someone suggest Anya Taylor-Joy for a live action Ventress and my god, just find a no-name and let her own it, don't stunt cast my favorite girl...

Now that you mention this, I realize I have gotten to the same place. I really don't have much interest in discussing most of it really. Whether I enjoyed it or not, I dunno, I think I'm kinda argued out with this saga.

TLJ did me in and my tolerance has sunk lower and lower ever since. Not that it's happening on this board but I don't even really feel like saying I liked a project anymore. I'm not nearly this bored and put off about it with like, DC or Marvel though, I'll go to bat for unpopular Marvel projects I like and I'll defend my decision to shut Aquaman off halfway through watching it any time, but Star Wars, the minute a back and forth about any project starts happening I just start hearing Charlie Brown grownup voices. Although my patience for Star Wars opinions have really been wearing thin since folks were arguing about Ewoks.

Same here.

Eh, I'm kinda getting there with Marvel too. I dropped off the MCU threads pretty hard.

Haw I did too!

Heh, that is quite a while yeah. But yeah I noticed I don't even share the excitement for the figures so much, so I'm barely in this thread anymore. It's a bit of a bummer for me since star wars has been my main thing pretty much always. But I kinda went through something similar around 2008 or so, but having my son and him going crazy do the OT brought me back for a while.

I do that outside of this forum. There's usually interesting input or education for me vs "Well. The people on the internet said..."

Years ago I made a decision to just excise reviews and crit. I see a thing. I play a thing. I like it or I don't. I don't even need to discuss it. It's for me. And I move on to the next thing. It became exhausting when other people want to argue points or try and change your viewpoint on why you should like or dislike a thing because that's how they feel.

But I do like a critical discourse and points of view. Sadly that just gets rarer and rarer.

Me too.

I'll jump in every so often exclusively with the likes of you guys on this forum and previously on the Fwoosh. But I basically will not even talk about Star Wars publicly or in any other online environment. I like what I like. I don't like what I don't like. I'm perfectly happy with having my own preferences and not having to defend -either- side of them to people whose opinions don't matter to me in the slightest and who usually don't even have good feedback or criticisms of their own.

I only talk Star Wars regularly with my wife.
We both more-or-less love and hate the same things about it, we are HUGE nerds about the stuff we do love about it . . . and that’s about it.

That said: I’m going to Disneyland tomorrow for the first time since Galaxy’s Edge opened, and I am cautiously optimistic. Buuuuut I’m going to be in a very mixed group, generationally and otherwise, of theatre people, so I’m probably gonna have to manage myself.

I usually don't read reviews for anything until after I've seen or played it. Not that I've ever been a person who lets the opinions of others sway me- some of my family's favorite movies are critical and commercial failures, but they were the only ones we could afford on DVD or on the few channels we got. Even when I hear the criticism, most of which I won't even disagree with, it still doesn't sway me. I love things because of and in spite of their flaws. I'd even go so far as to say it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people let reviews sway their willingness to see something or their opinion of it (doubly so when they try to quote an article as a means to back up their point). Everyone is allowed their opinion, of course, but I want to hear their opinion, not them using someone else's to back theirs up.

I went to Galaxy's Edge in California a couple years ago during Celebration for Star Wars night. It was fun- don't really feel like I got the full experience- we only had a couple hours to see the entire park, including GE, so it was all quite hectic and sadly, Rise of the Resistance closed early that night, so we didn't get to go on it. They were also out of all but like 1 or 2 options for each lightsaber in the lightsaber building thing, so not many options for customization. But from what I was able to see, it was quite lovely, especially for a Star Wars fan. Easy to see how people can get lost in the world, and for theatre people who love to improv or role play, I'd say doubly so. The Ronto wrap was pretty good too; don't remember if we tried the blue or green milk. Would love to go back now that they've added some more lightsaber options and such. Really hope to get the Boyo to Disney World- he's only ever been to Disney Land, and thusly doesn't believe me when I say that World is better than Land (subjectively, of course, but it's a hill I'll die on).

I'm a fan of Anya, but 100% agree on this. If they've got to do live action Ventress (and of course, they will eventually) I'd love to be completely surprised by a newcomer. I feel like Anya is only on anybody's list because she's rail-thin and has a face shaped a bit like the 3d model. People fan-cast so much for looks alone and it's exhausting.

Re: discussions of Star Wars, the thing that's frustrating about Star Wars, and most pop culture fandoms now, is typically when I am critical, the folks hearing it fill in the thing they think I'm critical about long before I actually get it out, and typically the thing I am critical about is not part of what they assumed.

If you can go in without a bias against the Sequel Trilogy, Galaxy's Edge is a fun land to visit. I hope you are able to experience the ride the Rise of the Resistance. It's very well done.
