Not sure if there are a bunch of Trek fans on this board outside of the few who post about the toys, but wanted to start a thread to talk about the latest episodes starting with this week's Strange New Worlds Season 3 premiere!

I'm actually current on a Trek premiere for the first time in a long time! Well, kinda - saved 302 for tonight because why rush? Also, that premiere was a lot and I wanted to digest slowly, like the Gorn...

Spoilers follow for 301!

THOSE WIGS - I get it, everyone's hair changed in two years and they'll update next episode, but YIKES. Uhura's head looked huge!

Everything on the Gorn ship was super convenient - only getting out main cast (even though everyone else is also burning alive?), finding weapons, fixing her fingers, being able to work the conveniently-located computer panel with easily-removable memory stick with all the info pre-loaded for quick rescue, then finding a ship (in the engine/fuel room?), then not only being able to work it but also fly it well enough to not crash into unfamiliar territory or other angry Gorn, survive, get recognized by their own ship (because they figured out how to hail?), then have 200 people rescued via transporter (which is not reliably working and also how did that work so fast and also off-screen), then our main cast. I didn't want to lose any of these characters, and the performances were all great, but that plotting felt super rough draft. And shouldn't EVERYONE have massive radiation poisoning?

Also, where were all the other doctors and nurses in sick bay?

Loved Pelia and Scotty, and her way of "motivating" him was great. I hope Pelia is very present this season and not just replaced by him, even though I'm really enjoying him two episodes in.

Loved that Pike started praying at the end. I haven't rewatched much of this show outside of the brilliant musical and Lower Decks episode so I can't remember if that's an established thing for him, but that worked. And now I see - her ship is destroyed so she can stick around. Glad they're going to continue to explore that relationship.

Happy to have this show back!! Twenty-five to go...

I knew wigs would be mentioned somehow. Never watched SNW, didn't watch Picard either... But I am familiar with your significant obsession.

I really just came in here to talk about DS9 so I have little to offer...
 
I despise how they changed the Gorn into some Alien xenomorph hybrid & pretty much copied most everything. Seeing the inside of their ship just solidified that whoever is writing just wants to write the Alien series.

Finally no more Gorns.

Obviously they dropped the background medical cast for the ONE new nurse. When are they just going to make "nurse" Chapel into a full fledged doctor? She is pretty much already doing Dr M'benga's job.

302 was pretty awesome. I totally knew what was going to happen. It was great to hear Delancie's voice.

Initially *groan* we are back to her dying!? Did not care for this development.
Totally saw the zombie angle coming when M'benga couldn't detect any life & found the chewed up Klingon.
That was just inconceivable that the Klingon woman was hunting him & showed up when she did.
Sorry Schizm looks like they are phasing out Pelia already.
Plus I am expecting Pike's relationship to end badly. She is ether going to turn full Gorn or die by taking her own life before it happens.

Oh you came to talk about arguably the best ST series of all time?

I just watched "In the Pale Moonlight" the other day. It was the end of the day, I didn't want to zombie scroll through my streaming services looking for something to watch until I got too tired. I reached for the DS9 DVDs, cycled through standout episodes in my mind, and landed on this gem. Sisco is such a great character.

I've wanted to rewatch but no one in my house wants to join me, and seven seasons is too much to do on the rare occasion I get the tv to myself, heh. Gonna have to figure it out...

Have they at least TRIED 90's Star Trek? My wife stated watching TNG with me (one of TV's all-time greatest shows) and she got hooked. When it ended she was down for starting DS9 and was just as into it, watched it all the way through. "Are we going to watch a Star Trek tonight?" was often what I would hear when the day wound down. Her favorite character was Quark :D

I feel like I showed them the first part of the pilot, but it was a few years ago... Actually, my son saw the beginning and wanted to see that show first, but quickly felt TNG was just too much to take on as well and moved on. He was probably 8 or so though. It did get him to watch First Contact with me at least. But yeah, maybe I can try again....
 
It's tricky because you always have to go with the "It takes a while to find its footing" disclaimer, and it's true. TNG and DS9 both took a season or two to hit their full stride. But you're rewarded for your patience. There are some good episodes to be found in those early seasons too.

Agreed. And I mean.. I remember the one with the aliens that made them play hopscotch with fondness! But yeah maybe I could do a truncated, necessary-episodes list... I remember when Sisco showed up with the Defiant, it felt like a different show. And not just because they were more mobile but because the plot focus shifted to the Dominion. When Worf showed up was another major change.
 
Lol, I might have to rewatch that hop scotch episode, I thought it was a bit cringe but I'm up for giving it another shot. Completely agree about the Defiant, it felt like the stakes were upped from then on out. The show took off starting then. Great stuff.

It's DEFINITELY cringe. Just picturing Sisco singing "alamarine" or whatever while hoping on squares is so ridiculous, but there's something kinda sweet about it. Just like his "ow!" when he figures out what's happening when the Prophets have him on the hot beach with Jennifer. It's a total 180 from what comes later, especially the last couple seasons. But some of that stuff is really enjoyable. I didn't really appreciate how prominent Vic Fontaine became, but it could still be fun. And always fun to play spot-jeffrey-combs. Ah man, I actually got to talk to him for a few seconds at comic con once, when he was promoting Frighteners with John Astin. My best friend (who was the biggest Trek fan I've ever known) and I fanboyed all over him not just for DS9 but also Re-Animator.

Them blowing up a Galaxy Class ship (for all intents and purposes the Enterprise) was brilliant. Symbolically telling the audience that this isn't going to be TNG.

The supporting cast of this show is every bit as deep as the main cast. Combs is great. Gul Ducat is one of Trek's best villains. Garak, Martok, Nog, Rom, Kai Winn, Damar (introduced as a background character with one line of dialogue and became pivotal for the final season). Great stuff!
 
RIGHT?! For real, they even had some outstanding single-episode characters. heh, I even quoted it the other day when Gowron said "What?! What is this?!" And Worf swings his batleth and says, "It is your death!" NO ONE in the room appreciated that I announced someone's death, but it made me laugh at least.

Worf killed the leader of one of Starfleet's greatest allies because HE decided it was.time for someone new. Starfleet had zero shits to give :D

I remember when Worf killed Duras in TNG and Picard said something along the lines of, "A reprimand will be placed on your record". Sisco didn't even give him THAT.
