Star Trek

Wave 3 is all TOS, right? What's wave 4?

And theoretically, wave 5 should be all TNG.

That is the wave I will probably go all in on. Not sure yet. I mean, I'm certain to go all in on that wave in particular, but not certain if I'll cherry pick the rest of the series or go full speed ahead on everything-- no pun intended. The TNG crew is who I grew up on, though, so they are the "for sure".

Nacelle's founder and CEO, Brian Volk-Weiss, has been adamant in every interview that he has no plans to change the price point, even with the accessories and the tariffs (he keeps using Kirk's horse as an example ha), but who knows if things might change? He says this line is a labor of love to him.
I really hope that’s true. Although I don’t want the company to go under trying to hold that line.

I keep hearing that about Kirk and his horse but until I have my preorder in I am struggling to believe it.

The price just seems unbelievable given all the stuff they are showing to be included with these figures. Plus the unique sculpting, plus the paint. Especially considering what other companies are giving us for a comparable price (ie the barest of the bare minimum). I would happily pay a few bucks more for quality and to ensure this line doesn't burn out before all this good stuff sees launch.

I'm encouraged to hear the "labor of love" bit. The last line I collected that felt like someone's passion project was NECA movie TMNT and those figures were a joy to buy. I'm looking for a line like that again.

I’m also finding it hard to believe this line sticks to the $28 price point. Given how large some accessories are. Diamond Select has been able to put out largish diorama pieces with some of their figures, though. So guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I wouldn’t be surprised if wave 5 is not the TNG crew. And skips to either DS9 or Voyager, just to throw off expectations a bit.

The only things I can think of is if he has little to no overhead and the licensing fee is smaller than other properties then maybe he can keep the costs down. On the flip side I would think the quantities are much smaller and that makes it harder to get the best pricing from factories and it means you have to make back your expenses on a smaller inventory.

I'm not going to get too far into this because it's all supposition on our part at this point, but the things that Nacelle is showing us here--dedicated sculpt, paint, accessories---are all things other companies are telling us can't be done while paying a dread licensing fee that apparently sucks next to all value out of a figure. When I hear that excuse, I suspect that is not quite true. But if we get what we are being shown here for $28.99......it would not only prove the above to be not true, but it would prove it not true to a degree that would blow my mind. I don't have that much optimism in me, but I'm open to being proved wrong.

If I remember (and understood it) correctly, Brian Volk-Weiss basically said, that they had cash flowing in from other ventures (documentaries, movies, etc), so they basically just have to cap the cost, stay slightly (five percent?) above it (and I'm pretty confident that Star Trek should be able to provide that number), and that's it. He really doesn't seem to be doing this with a lot of profit in mind.

I hope he get's all the wins he can get out of this regardless, simply, because of how awesome this undertaking seems to be.

I'm guessing it's exactly what you say regarding the company being profitable elsewhere, and since Star Trek is a passion project, they've minimized any profit margin for the line. Hopefully the line sells enough to exist for a few years. Wave 3's TOS isn't scheduled until next fall. So I imagine the next full crew in wave 5 wouldn't be till 2027.
