Spinmaster Shapes Collection PlayStation Figures

Yo, Yu Gi Oh?

Who are we getting?

I used to work running the official leagues and teaching kids. Would love some representation of that time.

What Contra? Long shot at Lucia from Shattered Soldier?

From Revoltech, we've been getting a bunch of Duelists and a separate following release of an ace monster for each. Yami Yugi with Black Luster Soldier, Judai with Neos, Yusei with Junk Warrior, Yuma with Astral and Utopia, and we're about to get Ryo from GX. Unsure what monster they could feasibly do for him.

From Figuarts, we're about to get Yami Yugi, and Kaiba was announced yesterday.

Even with just Kaiba, could toss in a Figure-Rise Standard or Monsterarts Blue Eyes White Dragon, and it'd be a great display.

Mai would be great though. I mostly want a figure of Yubel.

A guy on reddit, Injustry, who worked on the line is saying the line is cancelled due to a variety of reasons, including poor ad support and lack of experience.

A combination of stuff. Not enough ad support, Limited experience in the category, the team moving mountains to give fans the experience they want but running into undesirable cost decisions, like that hinge belly for Elle.

The team working on shapes collection was the best of the best at Spin Master. It was an honor to work with those guys. We didn’t give AF and pushed as hard as we could with what we were allowed to work on.
I'm asking further questions, hopefully we get some more answers as to what happened to the line.

No ad support? That might be the weirdest thing I've ever heard for cancelling a toyline.
Lack of experience is what I originally cited as a concern for this line having no legs - Spinmaster doesn't do this and doesn't know how to do this and it was bound to create some internal issues. So.. disappointing, but expected.

I rolled the dice on that line and everything I got made me happy. And while there were dumb things like the Ellie hinge, on my desk and actually just posed up it doesn't bother me.

I'm just happy they gave us these.

It does suck because the League of Legends line was also on the cusp of doing cool things. Whoever wants to make serious toys over there is cursed.

I assume Nate, Abby, and different versions of Kratos and Jin were absolute no-brainers if the line had continued.

As someone who would've loved the likes of Jak, Ratchet, and Parappa, I say this in the least biased way possible, but I do wonder if some non-realistic humans could've helped draw some more eyes to the line. At least show what's capable. The like might've suffered a bit from what I think a lot of modern games in general suffer from and that's everything going for super realism has kind of killed visual interest.

I think an issue too is just that Sony's first party characters aren't as immediately identified as first party characters like Nintendo's are. Like seeing folks wishing the line had Crash, Lara Croft, or Cloud when none of those would've been on the table.

I'll take the opposite side of the trench.

Those franchises haven't been relevant for years and I totally understand why they would go all in on modern PS5 relevant franchises, which, better or worse, all trend hyper realism and gritty.

But I will armistice dinner with you on that last point. I'm happy I have Crash and Coco from that line.

I understand the thought, but I think I'd counter by saying we got figures from some of Sony's biggest PS4 titles. If THOSE don't get people excited, then it's just not meant to be.

I'm usually surprised by this, but whenever I do engage with hardcore gamers, action figures just never make the Venn diagram.

Yeah, you'll get the anime weeb dudes who want their statues and jar material from franchises that are way too niche or frankly off-putting to me, but that's where the overlap ends.
