Spider-Man Retro 2026 Wave with Cardiac, Owl & Hypno Hustler

Here's what his house looked like:

He built it on the Palisades along the Hudson river. Why didn't he just put up a big neon sign saying "I'M RIGHT HERE!!!!"
Man, comics are just so awesome. This is ridiculous and it rules.

The figure is basically how I picture Owl in my head.
I poked through several modern appearances this afternoon starting with the Bendis Daredevil run and, without having a defined modern "costume", this is basically what the Owl has worn on and off for at least 20 years. His appearance seems to vary based on how he's being used in the story, vacillating between a variation of this look (the struggling/down on his luck crime boss), his straight classic look with the inverness cape (the super villain), and a green three-piece suit minus the cape/cloak (the crime boss ascendent). But this look definitely is not just from a single cover.

I'd always prefer straight classic looks over others, but barring any soft goods I'm not sure how well they could pull off a long, closed waist coat with a cape that covers both shoulders and half his torso without giving us another Toy Biz Mandarin. Or maybe they just didn't have enough budget for his pretty big red bow.

Also, really wish they would finish the Fearsome Foes. Just totally dropped the ball there.
If you mean the Superior Foes I'm 100% with you - they got so close then bailed out of that group. Funnily enough, this version of Owl is pretty much exactly how he looks in that book, so they still seem to be taking cues from it. Maybe there's hope for Overdrive after all.

His scarf could be used for a Genosha/Tux Gambit from X-men '97.
Was precisely what I was thinking, though a little long and close set, but it could work with some modifications. Tuxedo Gambit was my biggest hope for wave 3 of 97 figures, so hopefully they put him out done well (rather than well done like the end of episode #5) and I don't have to make my hodge-podge own white suited Remy. So far I've looked at Arcade, Jigsaw, The Rose, but I guess they could just do a different jacket in white or make it actually reflect the animation model. Here's hoping.

I'm also hoping for a tuxedo Gambit. Haha I keep looking at my Jigsaw figure too thinking about customising it.

I was trying to wrap my head around the hullabaloo around the Owl not looking "classic" enough. And well, I think some people are holding on too tight.
I really wish Jesse would go elsewhere. I've never gotten a good vibe from him.
Jesse Falcon? The guy who started Marvel Legends? That's a take. I remember going to ComicCon all so many moons ago. Toy Biz had their little booth. Would showcase upcoming Marvel figures. Jesse was always there. Super nice and cool to interact with. They had revealed Marvel Legends wave 1. Had them on a roped off table. I was talking to Jesse about them, and he let me behind the ropes. Showcased the figures in person to me. Wish I still had pics of that wave, since they radically changed Hulk's neck articulation and butterflies. And he let slip the 2nd wave was going to be Fantastic Four based. Over the years, he'd do similar things. I remember asking him about a carded Helms Deep Aragon which was hanging on the booth's wall. He took it down, ripped it open, and handed me the figure to inspect. He was always a great guy to interact with, so no...I don't want him to go away.

I worry about Marvel Legends continuing for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with Disney / Marvel and Hasbro, but they're part of the problem too. The reaction to this wave here (amongst the linde's most fervent fans) is pretty mixed. Of course, I'm happy for those who are enthused.

IMO, this wave, like many recent Spidey waves, sucks. Cardiac and Owl are frustratingly lousy representations of their most well-known comics versions. Except for Venom Spidey (which I don't care for, but I imagine will sell because Venom / Spidey), the rest are headed straight to RossCon.

It's great to get an on-model figure of an obscure villain like Hypno-Hustler, but they're high if they think he'll sell at target and Wal-Mart (Spidey seems like the one line that both stores can be counted on to stock). I'll get HH eventually, but for under $15. If customizers make better heads for Cardiac and Owl, I'll probably do the same. Otherwise, I don't need them. I wish they'd Haslab box sets of in-demand but obscure villains, like the last Amazon box with Fly, etc. Because, honestly, when are they going to mkae Cardiac and Owl again? It's taken nearly 25 years for these to manifest!

A few other things:

I've known Jesse since the early 90's - good guy. His job is to maximize income for the company he works for (Disney / Marvel, not Hasbro), just like Dwight's job is to maximize Hasbro's income. They may not agree with how their employers want to do that, so both are feeling pressure from each other and the companies they work for. I don't think either is any more responsible for bad decisions than the other. Jesse has a preeliction for absurd charcters like Morg, who probably wouldn't have been made otherwise. YMMV on that stuff.

Releasing placeholders is clearly part of a plan to maximize income from each character - despite the great lists of still unreleased, in-demand characters, the IP pool is not infinite, although repackaging seems to be. Which remoinds me - where's Secret Wars wave 2? Need to get a proper classic Falcon FINALLY (watch it be a first appearance).

No two things across the history of Marvel Legends are as consistent as 1) the most ardent fans being the biggest complainers, and 2) the refrain: "Can the line survive much longer if they keep making figures like [insert most recent obscure character who was announced]?"

This Spidey wave follows the same formula as the last one, and the one before that, and before that, and before that. The Spidey retro waves might be the most consistent ML subline of the last ~5 years, which suggests a pretty decent performance.

I don't really want Jesse gone. I know his importance to the Marvel Legends line and appreciate his place in our plastic crack habit.

What I'd really like is for some of his attitude to be gone. His response to PantherCult at SDCC really sucks.
A classic M'Baku is one of my top wants in Marvel Legends and he might be even more important than Killmonger when it comes to the Panther's villains. The response Jesse gave was uncalled for and a major bummer. If you are so concerned about being pc and/or soccer mom backlash, just let M'Baku be made using the made to order model. No brick and mortar involved. Minimal media exposure necessary. Make classic comic Legend fans like me put our money where our mouth is. Still waiting for things like M'Baku and Mandarin....
