SHF Star Wars

ROTS Obi-Wan is up for preorder! I saw a solicitation say that it had digital face printing. Is that new for them?

Not sure because I'm very new to this line, but I'm not a fan of their likenesses. Mafex is killing them at actor likenesses over the last year or two, and I can't see that this Obi-Wan face is any better than what Hasbro does in their line. It's fine, but it's fully in the Uncanny Valley.

But that's the challenge with human faces. Most Hot Toys releases are also in the Uncanny Valley. Other than the face the figure looks excellent and I'm planning on getting it.

If anyone figures out why the Yoda refurbish/renewal due out last month got delayed 9+ months please do share.

From what I heard, they sub-contracted the cloak portion of the manufacturing to an unvetted factory, there's been some kind of foul up and it's not cost effective now for said factory to do it so they're having to find somewhere else. Hence it's pushed back to October/November now.

Edit: On the likenesses thing, yeah, they can be hit and miss but when they hit, they're incredible - I've a TFA Han and TLJ Luke that are straight up a tiny little Harrison Ford and Mark Hamil hanging out on my shelf, they absolutely nailed those two.

Totally. Their Ahsoka headsculpt is amazing, and from what I've seen of the Attack of the Clones Padme face that one is also amazing. Aren't they re-releasing that Padme soon? I'm all in on that one if so.

There's always a subjective debate about likenesses, but I love what SHF does, for the most part. Sometimes they are a little stylized, and sometimes they do miss the mark, but I find they almost always look better in your hand, with natural lighting conditions, and less than an inch in size. Their Mando/RoTJ Luke is hands down one of my favorite figures of all time.

Degobah Luke! I feel as if I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth at this point, but I really want him in his swampy flight suit like they showed off years ago, and even moreso - his full Bespin fatigues. Would be cool if this came with a pop out torso to have him kitted out for his showdown with Vader, but hopefully they'll give us that in a second release. The Yoda looks a little odd there. Honestly, the Black Series one that was packed in with their Degobah Luke is superb. After doing some light work on his robe, he's now my favorite Yoda.

Great to see a big SW display though. This is what happens when celebration goes to Japan, as I don't think they can even show off their catalogue at US shows because of Hasbro restrictions. Grievous is a big hole in my collection that I'm excited to fill as well. Keep going Tamashii!

ESB Bespin Luke is my #1 want. It's my favorite scene, from my favorite movie, involving my favorite hero. The fight with Vader is top-notch underdog shit! An ESB Dagobah Luke is... nice. My only Grievous is the grievous mistake that Hasbro made. I trust SHF to do better.

Youtube reviewer "Action Display" says Bandai will be opening pre-orders for General Grievous on April 25th. He says they usually show up around 11AM Japan time, and that's about midnight EST. I LOVE Grievous so I'm all-in on getting what looks to be the best twelfth scale version of him today or into the indefinite future.

Got notice that Yoda was coming from Amazon Japan first week of October. I'm excited and terrified about if it will get to me and how much it will cost.

Right now shipping from Japan is costing about as much as the figures themselves so I'm hoping Yoda gets delayed. BBTS and EE never listed him as far as I know we're all probably just screwed on getting Yoda. 😭

Anyone know why all of the SHF figure releases recently are all Japan exclusives? Some sort of licensing issue perhaps? I mean, it's quite strange because Bandai is making English-language specific versions of the figures with packaging and instructions in English, but then they're only selling them from Japan. So they're planning for a foreign audience that it seems like they're not actually supposed to be selling to, but they know that audience buys directly from Japan to get them.

And somehow BBTS has been selling these "excliusive" figures after release anyway. I always wonder how they're getting them--are they just buying a ton from the Japanese retailers and selling them here? I really don't get it at all.

I'm now afraid I won't be able to get General Grievous when he releases, although I guess we can always wait and see what BBTS manages to get their hands on.
