Selling Toys - Horror Stories & "Happy" Customers

Last time I unloaded stuff I just sold it to a local second hand action figure store. I took an absolute bath on it, but I walked out cash in hand with no fuss.

Usually I’m not trying to get rich unloading stuff, mostly I just want to get it out of my house because I don’t have any plans for it, and would like to get *something*

That's usually my mindset too. Once in a while I know I have something worth something, usually some Fett item since that's what I'll invest in, but yeah usually I just wanna make room for new stuff or clear out my accessories bin or what have you.

This is what I usually do. I know I could get more money if I sold them online, but I just don't have the patience. Reading these stories just reinforces this feeling.

That's my feeling too- I don't mind selling it to a store I like if I can get cash that day and help them out with business too (and also not have to worry about the money come tax season). Our local secondhand store doesn't always take everything you bring them, though, even if it's new in package. Every now and then if they don't take something, I'll try again a month or so later and they'll take it then. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason to what they do and don't take, or how it's priced- they'll have 2 of the exact same item in the same condition, and one will be, say, $10 and the other will be $45. But I digress. It's always kinda fun/fascinating to go in a few days later and see what I sold them and see what they've priced it for.

I just thought of another one.... I had a figure listed for a certain amount, then got a watcher so I sent out an offer for a couple dollars off. Then I happened to notice others had listed that same figure for cheaper than the offer I'd sent. I always try to be the cheapest listed because I want to move this stuff. It had been two or three days since the offer had been sent so I figured it wasn't gonna get accepted, but didn't want to wait anymore for it to end on its own so I could lower the price, so I just ended the listing then relisted it for below what the other listings were. The guy I'd sent the offer to sent me a vicious message about how he was going to accept it but now he will never ever buy anything from scum like me in the future, etc. I responded something really dumb like "oh, whoops! Hey, it's relisted for even cheaper!" but someone else bought it shortly after I sent that anyway, and I added the message guy to my blocked buyers list. I LOOOOOOOVE adding people to my blocked buyers list, heh.

You can edit the price when you have offers out - it's the only thing you can edit in that state. :)

Big oof on that one. While I certainly get that shipments go missing all the time- I can't tell you how many times I've had something say it was delivered and either signed for or left at the front desk, when my building only has 3 apartments and no front desk- that one feels a bit too iffy to me. Given the price, it feels like maybe the person regretted spending the money but wanted the thing anyway, so filed a claim. I hate how quick ebay is to take the side of the customer. The whole "customer is always right" mentality, which is misquoted anyway, really is one of the most damaging ideas that's ever been implemented. The second I hear that leave someone's mouth, they've lost all credibility to me.

Not at all similar, really, but it reminds me of a case I had the other day. I got an offer for something I was selling on ebay. Negotiated a price that was in between the offer and my asking price; I was desperate enough to sell the thing that I accepted a bit less than I wanted. Person accepted, so I boxed everything up and waited for the payment to go through so I could get a label. Check back later that day, the person had cancelled the order. An hour went by and the same person sent another offer for about $15 less than the price we agreed upon. Like.... why accept the original offer if it wasn't what you were willing to pay? Why waste both our time? But some people really just want to have their cake and eat it too.

You should block that buyer. What's their name? I'm gonna block 'em too.

EDIT: They're/their. I used to spit on people like this, and now I've done it twice in the last 24 hours. And both ways (they're for their, then their for they're).
