ScottG10's Collection Pics

Did some work on my main Muppets display recently. Added a new shelf for Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock. I freed space on my Palisades shelves by moving my Grover figures to the Sesame Street shelf and giving Rowlf a smaller piano. I then went on an eBay shopping spree buying up some of the variants I didn’t have and quickly fillies up the extra space, and then some.

I grew up watching reruns of Batman '66' while playing with my Super Powers toys. I had Batman, Robin and the Batmobile, but was always disappointed that I didn't have a Batgirl or her cycle to hang out with them. I don't care what toy companies say now or then, I would have gladly bought a Batgirl figure.

When Mattel did the first Batman '66 line, I was all over it, childhood memories come to life in plastic form. I finally got my Batgirl, but Mattel didn't get very far before calling it quits. I then jumped over to to Figures Toy Company, because they covered a lot more ground, but the Mego style has never really been my thing, so I retired those once McFarlane hit their stride. There was also some Funko, Mezco, and even Hot Toys, along the way.

First up is the the 1:18th display, a hodge podge of McFarlane, Funko and Mezco. McFarlane's Batcave works much better at 1:18, and some of the Mezco Batcave pieces extend the cave out to cover the the entire shelf. I honestly don't remember which Batmobile this is (Funko or Mezco). The figures are Funko and Mezco. The onomatopoeia effects are McFarlane. I think this combination makes a great setup. It is a shame neither Funko nor Mezco made it past one release.

Next up is the 1:12 display, a mix of Mattel and McFarlane. Mattel had better paint apps and articulation, but some of the bodies just looked lanky and frail. McFarlane has superior sculpts in many cases, but less articulation and paint apps.. At the end of the day, McFarlane gets the win in my book for the best '66 line with a wide range of figures, unique characters, vehicles and playsets, compatibility with Mattel, and my preferred scale. I wish they had gotten to Mad Hatter, Shame and some of the civilians to cover most of what FTC did, and I really, really wanted a Batcopter, but I'm still very happy with their output at the end of the day.

Some of the figures in my display are kit bashes between Mattel and McFarlane. In fact, the main Joker is the top half of the McFarlane figure (better sculpt) with the bottom half of the Mattel figure (better paint app, gotta have the pin stripes). Alfred is a custom with the Mattel DC Multiverse head. Most of the Batman '66 comic stuff is not here (not enough space), but I made an exception for Two-Face given the animated movie and plans to include him in the TV show before it was canceled. Mattel gets the win on the Batmobile, which works well with the McFarlane Batboat and Batgirl's cycle (another childhood wish fulfilled).

Next up is Hot Toys Batman and Robin with the Tweeterhead Batgirl statue. The accessories are from FTC. I'm hoping JazzInc tackles Batgirl at some point, but I think the statue works well here.

Most of my carded McFarlane figures are hanging on the side of the bookcase, while Mattel's Batman and Robin are just hanging out, as they were wont to do back in the day. I wish I had all of the black and white figures, but McFarlane Toys and their chase figures, they can never just make it easy... The McFarlane '66 comic stuff will end up with Batman '77 and Super Friends in another display some day.

Did some work on Mezco 1:12 (and similar figures) display today.

First up is my Golden Age gangster display. I'm not the greatest poser, but I try to get more creative with my displays when space permits, borrowing from toy photography and media images and doing my best to adapt them, to varying degrees of success. Robin's pose, for example, was adapted from a D-Amazing video.

The Golden Age Joker, as well as the entire backdrop/shelf wrap are new additions. The backdrop is an image from the Dick Tracy movie (shown below).

I'm pretty sure everyone dies at the end of this scene. I didn't really have enough horizontal space to spread the figures out as much as I would like, so those gun blasts are all pretty close.

Here are my two smaller Mezco shelves together. The top shelf is just miscellaneous stuff. The Gong Hush Batman is a new addition.

N5NyiGS.jpeg

This is my main Mezco display. The premise here is that characters from across the omniverse unite to fight a threat to the existence of all realities. I know most folks are over multiverse stories, but I never will be. I'm not saying they are all good, but I've loved the concept since reading Crisis on Infinite Earths as a kid and it will never get old for me.

8WLJwDf.jpeg

I have a couple of other Mezco figures in a different display, they were co-opted for my Earth-S shelf (the multiverse again) in my 6-inch DC Display. Along with the Mezco figures are the awesome Captain Marvel line from DC Direct and some customs I bought on eBay to fill out the rest of the Fawcett Comics crew.

I love the Hoppy the Marvel Bunny figure -- I had always hoped DC Direct would do Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew in the same style. I appreciate that McFarlane did finally get us Captain Carrot at least, but it isn't quite the funny animal version I've always wanted.

Pictures of my two Iron Mar Armories. I've shared the 1:12 scale Armory from the Disney Toy Box line, but this is the first time I've shared my 1:18th Armory, made out painted Legos. Not curves to speak of, but I was looking for an option that would allow me to adjust the height or width of individual alcoves for Iron Man armors that were taller or wider. I love this thing, though it is a PITA to keep clean.

The first picture is the whole wall, which also includes my carded Iron Man original vs. Retro figures. I plan to put the 5" Toy Biz Iron Man figures above the sign in the near future.

My picture taking skills are lousy in general, but photographing this display is extra difficult. Its in a weird alcove in my home office and getting far enough back and at a good angle to get a decent photo is challenging.

I did some work on my Mattel/Super 7 Thundercats and Silverhawks display a couple weeks ago. These being on lower shelves (with the Thundercats above the Silverhawks), visibility is limited the higher up you go at the back of the shelf. With the latest Silverhawks wave and the last two vac metal releases in hand, I needed more vertical space for the Silverhawks, so I swapped the two shelves. Basically, I had to pull everything down and start over, fun times...

A quick word on Super 7, I think I have the same general opinion as most on these boards. Super 7 is overpriced on everything, articulation is lacking, quality control is sometimes lacking, and some of their decisions are just straight up dumb. However, they cover licenses that no one else does, many of their figures do look great (even if they aren't great toys), and they are willing to go deep when sales warrant.

cZJcdj4.jpeg

Case in point on dumb decisions, the colors of the their "cartoon accurate" Silverhawks figures. I don't think anyone with reasonable expectations expected them to do vac metal, but plenty of companies have managed to do great metallic paint jobs, including Super 7 themselves. So after Bryan Flynn spent 18 months hyping up the colors on these figures, what was delivered was a huge letdown. Just bland and boring colors when it was clear these characters were always intended to be metallic, they aren't called Greyhawks after all... Then, they somehow manage to make the "impossible" vac-metal figures possible, and sucker that I am, I'm now rebuying the same overpriced figures again. However, I have to admit that the vac metal figures look pretty amazing and I've had no issues with chips or flaking, they just need to be handled with care.

Displaying the Silverhawks in flight was a must, Hotwing and Flashback are using Can of Beam stands with Mezco arms mounted to the top and side of the case while the rest of the figures are held aloft using the Octopus stand from Ironwing Collectibles.

I've been mostly all in on Silverhawks (Darkhawk is in my POL), but give me Moon Stryker, Yes-Man, Poker Face and a vac metal Copper Kid, and I'd call this line complete. With that said, I'd take the other Silverhawks in vac metal as well.

K0cc20N.jpeg

For Silverhawks, my memories are primarily from the toys. I remember seeing the first episode, and I sure I saw some others, but I can't remember a whole lot about them. For Thundercats, I didn't have many of the toys, so my memories, vague as they are, are more from the cartoon. My focus has been on core characters or those that resonate with me from childhood, even when I can't entirely remember why. Berbil Bill is a new, and likely, final edition to this shelf. I may go back and get Rataro, but beyond that, I think I'm done.

I did start with the Mattel releases and continued on with Super 7.

DwIRsRi.jpeg

Mandora is one of those characters that stands out to me from the cartoon, even though I don't really remember why. She didn't fit on the shelf with her charger, so she hangs from the ceiling above the case.

nvNAyxO.jpeg

My childhood Thundertank is hanging out on the floor nearby these shelves. I do still have my original Panthro somewhere, I really should find him out and put in the Tank. As much as I would have loved to get the Super 7 Thundertank and Cat's Lair, I just couldn't justify the real estate.

JdUfoqK.jpeg

My vintage Silverhawks figures made it through my childhood intact for the most part (the Miraj has seen better days). This is an older image from my toy room, but the display hasn't changed. I had Series 1 and the Miraj as a child. I purchased the Series 2 figures off eBay as an adult. I'd love to replace the Miraj with one in better shape, but that is not a cheap proposition.

Magnets are holding the Hawks up on the horizontal window covering.

Yeah, attaching the extras to the shelf as a sort of decorative frame is neat.

The lacking of shinyness on the Hawks is an ongoing aggravation for me too. I waffled a bit on getting the chromed versions, but realized how unlikely it is that we'd get, like, a vacmetal Hotwing, and didn't want a mismatched team.

I keep thinking I'm going to blast them all with a high-gloss finish spray, but haven't gotten off my ass to do it yet.

Most impressive. Love the Thundercats artifact display.
Thanks! I like to find ways to display the extra accessories a lot of these lines come with. Using the shelf edge and some blue tac works out well in a lot of cases.

I'm been working on updating my Star Wars shelves over the last few weeks. I missed Star Wars Day, but in honor of The Mandalorian and Grogu release (I just caught an early morning showing), here are some shots of various Star Wars items in my collection. Believe it or not, I'm more of a Star Trek guy, but there is room in my heart and my collection for both.

Black Series/1:12 makes up the majority of the my SW items. My history with Black Series has been up and down. When it first came out, I was only going to collect key OT characters. Then Rogue One hit, and I loved the movie, and I definitely needed the older versions of original cast. Then The Force Awakens hit, another movie I quite enjoyed, and I suddenly went from cherry picking to buying nearly everything. Catching up on Clone Wars and Rebels, which actually made the PT era worthwhile to me, contributed to my downfall. When the last few movies hit, I was buying on auto-pilot, but when all was said and done, I realized I just didn't care about a lot of these characters and I'd rather use that space for other thing (like the Power Rangers Lighting line that makes a cameo here). So, off to storage many figures went, and I'm much more selective now. Yes, this massive amount of s is me being more selective... Now, if I really enjoy a show or just a specific design, I'll grab something, but I've left a lot behind in the last few years, and I'm good with that.

First up, the full view of my 1:12 collection, mostly Black Series, but some Mafex and Figuarts are mixed in. Also a semi-life-size Mouse Droid and remote Chopper guard my display. Disregard the Power Rangers in the bottom right corner, they decided to photo bomb.
AX1L6Qo.jpg

The shelves are mostly in timeline order, so starting at the top is the PT era shelf. I find the PT movies to be just ok, but I loved Clone Wars and Ahsoka is one of my favorite Star Wars characters, so that is really what this shelf is about for me. I have no more room for clones, so I've passed on many since and there was a contingent of Mandalorians at one point, but they gave way to the Super Battle Droids and Droidekas. If they make more Jedi, some clones will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Pb09xSi.jpg

The heroes of the OT era, including the original trilogy, Rogue One (with a couple of Andor items mixed in), Rebels and Bad Batch. This shelf is basically the Star Wars top hits for me. The OT trilogy will always be at the top of my list and Rogue One is my favorite movie outside of OT. I loved Rebels, and though Bad Batch was a bit more uneven, it was really satisfying overall.

I know it is blasphemous to say, but I don't have the same love for Andor that others do, so I don't have much from that show. I've never been a big fan of dystopias, so while I can enjoy the concept in the context of the fantasy and sci-fi elements that Star Wars adds to the mix, Andor just didn't have much of that. And now that we are living in what may be the precursor to a dystopia in real-life, I like it even less...
vyzPKSi.jpg

The OT Empire and other baddies make up the next shelf. I'm also going to be more into the heroes than the villains, but every good guy need a good bad guy, so characters like Vader, The Emperor and even the Troopers make it all work. There is also some gaming, carbonite, and expanded universe stuff in here to fill out the ranks, but I honestly have enough troopers for life at this point, which is why I find the first Mando and Grogu Black Series figures to be pretty boring...
d4eHXyR.jpg

Next up is the The Mando era. I've really enjoyed The Mandalorian and Ahsoka (aka The Rebels sequel) shows, so I've grabbed a decent amount of figures from this era. And I quite enjoyed the Mando and Grogu movie, I don't care if it was just a two-hour episode of the TV show. I'm looking forward to seeing what Hasbro shows next week, as there are definitely a few characters I'd like to add to the shelf.
Gw5fTPc.jpg

The next shelf up is just a hodgepodge of miscellaneous figures that I like that don't really fit well anywhere else -- movie, TV, Expanded Universe, Carbonite, holiday figures, whatever grabs my fancy. The OT bounty hunters hang out at the bottom and the history of Luke Skywalker is represented in the back, on the left. The little Shadows of the Empire grouping is a recent addition.
uRuqioE.jpg

This is what remains on display from the ST. The ST era use to have an entire shelf dedicated to it (including an elaborate setup with Snoke and his thonre), but beyond The Force Awakens, I found I just didn't really care that much about these movies, so when it was time to make space, it wasn't a hard decision. Of course, I needed to keep the OT characters in the mix, and I like Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8. but the antagonists never did much for me. Kylo Ren was no Vader and Phasma was an utter waste of a character (but she looks awesome in shiny vac metal, so she made the cut). It was also clear that Disney did not have an actual plan for this trilogy, so that is absolute stupidity as far as I'm concerned.
8qtNE6G.jpg

Hoth is well represented in Black Series. I recently did the icy base, something new for me. Looks a little rough in the picture, but it actually looks better with the door closed. The ice cave is a 3D print from Layered Creations from back when selling 3D prints was not very common. The Snowspeeder sits on the floor outside of the case and there is no way the snow would have stayed clean, so I just went with a white base. The base is raised, because the Roomba keeps attacking the Snow Speeder. There is some kind of rivalry going on there...
Y9UeVT9.jpg

The 1:12 display continues onto the side of the book case and the top shelf of the next book case.
0baAi2Z.jpg

I'm pretty happy with my solution for displaying the flying vehicles on the side of the book case.
THyn37l.jpg

A side view of the same.
f6Bklw6.jpg

Tatooine and Endor round out the remainder of the display. Jabba has a custom throne I bought on eBay. I meticulously positioned Leia and Luke on the Speeder to match how they were in the movie. And I love Ewoks, so hopefully Hasbro will make more at some point. Why they aren't pumping on Astromechs, Protocol Droids and Ewoks, I just don't know. These seem like cheap and easy to produce money makers.
TPZL0FU.jpg

The original release of the big Millenium Falcon hangs above the display -- upside down so you can see the good stuff. This was one of the first items I bought when I moved into my current home almost 20 years ago. This thing is heavy, so it is anchored to the ceiling in three places with copious amounts of fish wire.
8yqBM6d.jpg

And if you look closely, you can see Han and Chewie in the cockpit.
wTm0Hc0.jpg

In an area for larger items, I have the Black Series TFA Tie Fighter and the large 1:18 AT-AT. It is a weird combo, I know, but it works for me.
YZGciLR.jpg

Like everyone else, I had baby Yoda fever for a while and I love life-sized figures, so I jumped on this Hot Toys Grogu. This is a temporary location. He'll go somewhere else. some day... I just ordered the movie accessory set from Sideshow for his armor and various other items. I was happy to see they were offering it separately.
2UrbREV.jpg

A purchase from late last year, this (almost) life-size animatronic R2-D2 was available at Home Depot, a sequel to their Vader and Stormtrooper releases. R2 is the one SW character I've always wanted life size, but previous offerings went for thousands of dollars. This was a fraction of the price. This is also a temporary location, but I do have a place for it. I just need to do the mod to move the electronics from the base to inside the figure itself. I'll get to it at some point...
