Playmates Vintage Rereleases

Amazon lists the sewer playset as coming Tuesday. No movement yet, but I better start making room.

I got two of the Sewer Lairs today! Haven’t opened them yet. Hoping the stickers are already on it.

I too received the sewer lair and no, you have to apply the stickers. I left all the ooze stickers off, those seem too permanent for representing something so temporary.

It requires a good amount of assembly. I wish it came with one more curved sewer pipe. I like the scale of it, though I haven’t put any figures in yet. I didn’t realize that the package for the new 6pk recreates this playset. The periscope, the elevator, the telephone lines, all cool features. The decals give it fun details, and I actually wish there were more.

I bought the 2012 sewer lair for my son back in the day and it took up a lot more real estate, and I think had even more play value. But this thing still rocks. For what it was in the ‘90s, it continues a grand tradition of playsets. Don’t know why we never had this one growing up, but I’m so glad Playmates reissued it, the Technodrome, the module. I’m excited to have finally experienced them.

Open your shit immediately, folks.

I JUST opened my Technodrome last night, despite getting it September 2024.

I'm missing one of the red guns (but have the inner handle plug piece) & have an extra of the side purple guns, but missing the one that goes in the back. (I also have extras of the black handcuff thingies that I have no use for, unless I try to find some random spot to clip them onto.)

My return window closed November 2024. I'm 10 months too late for a replacement/exchange. And I damn sure can't afford to buy another one, take the pieces I need, and hope for a refund sending it back (and I guarandamntee you I ain't sendin' back the one I put all the fucking stickers on, despite messing two up lol).

And of course, no one is selling reissue parts on eBay.

Found the ones I need for the vintage one, which, if they're slightly too big, shaving them down to fit will be WAY easier than if they'd be too small. But it'll cost me another $25-28 total to get those two tiny little fucking pieces.

Sigh.

Also, since I never had this as a kid & the instructions don't mention - where do you put the black platform & spinning manhole cover with purple seatbelt when the sphere is closed? I just found "space" for them, but was wondering if there was a specific way to store them, even if unofficial.

That's crazy TENIME. I'm sorry that happened. I never opened my Technodrome, and I ordered it last year too. Since it was smaller, I wasn't going to get it. But it was on sale near Black Friday for an insanely cheap price. So, I bought one. If I ever do open it, I hope everything is there.

So...I'd just remembered that when I lived with an older coworker & her husband after moving out from my parents' in late 2014/early 2015, they'd given me their son's old Technodrome. It was in rough shape, and missing most pieces.

Wanna know what pieces it isn't missing?

THE BACK PURPLE GUN & PLENTY OF EXTRA RED ONES!!!!!!!

I LUCKED OUT, lol.

But seriously, open your shit within the return windows, lol.

Phew!

Are the parts compatible from the vintage to the reissue? Isn’t the new one scaled down slightly?

I leave so many things for the rainy day pile. I open things long after a return window closes. I’ve mostly lucked out but one recent instance left me with missing hands from the 4H Figura Obscura Egyptian god Anubis. Fortunately, they are a smaller company with an actual customer service dept that was able to help me immediately. Got those extra hands with the quickness. Still have to open their Ganesha!

Yes, but my hope was it'd be easier to shave down larger parts than build up smaller parts.

As I said previously, no one is selling any reissue parts on eBay.

Unfortunately, the back gun pegs are proportionally smaller than the original's, so even though the purple gun is bigger, it still fits too loosely.

And the red gun is not only WAY too fucking big (I'd have to drill out the hole, as opposed to shaving down the gun itself), but it's a slightly different sculpt, so even if they were the same size, they wouldn't fucking match.

So while I avoided spending money I didn't have getting the pieces off eBay to find this out, I'm still missing those fucking pieces.

Anyone wanna grab a new reissue for me, pull the pieces, return the incomplete set for a refund, and I'll pay to have the pieces shipped to me, at least? I can afford a few bucks, I cannot afford another $70+, even if I'd be getting it back after a few days...

So I managed to pick up the Chrome Dome and Scale Tail re-releases tonight. I didn't see Wyrm or Antrax, but I don't think I've heard of anyone finding them? I never had these two as a kid, so it's pretty neat to mess with them. Chrome Dome can't stand for shit, but I am impressed that Playmates actually vac metalized the figure.

Looking at photos, these appear to have all their proper paint apps and weapons with them. Which kind of frustrates me to no end, because why is it so inconsistent with this line and Playmates? Why are some figures missing a weapon or two? Why are some paint apps just removed completely (Bebop's shoes!)...or released with it, then removed later? Yet these guys get everything nice and proper. I just don't understand.
