Playmates Vintage Rereleases

Also, I noticed the green mutagen in the picture. I wonder if they do a vintage re-release of that, too. They’re making it for the newer movies. I buy it for my daughter and she loves playing with it.

I was so excited to get the Lair as a kid but like virtually every other playset made, I wished it had been bigger. It was definitely more playable than the Technodrome though, I feel.

I used cardboard boxes that I turned into dioramas for both the lair and the Technodrome. I think I used soda bottles for the sewer pipes and drill module. Tennis ball for the eye of the Technodrome.

I loved the TV and the removable manhole cover as a kid. I would just have them coming and going from the sewer all of the time. I also knew the Technodrome could attach, but I almost never did that. It didn't feel authentic to me since I knew the Technodrome was never parked right next to the lair in the show.

I’m looking forward to this. I had picked up some unauthorized book about the vintage collection, and it shows. Very few photos, even less information. It’s junk and I regret it. Dan is proven with this stuff, I have the MotU books, so I will definitely be getting this one.

The books is now up for preorder. Regular edition is $70, special edition $100, and there’s a companion checklist/guide for $20 by a different author. Ships in the spring, shipping to be calculated later with payment for the book due now. I grabbed a copy of the special edition. I’m not intending on trying to collect the line so I have no need of the supplemental guide.

Ordered a Module for delivery, hopefully shows up Wednesday. I've never even seen the original one in real life.

I'm fortunate enough to have an original one complete that I acquired as an adult. It and the Technodrome were my never-acquired grails as a kid. I'm tempted to buy one of the re-releases too but don't really have a spot for it.

This may sound weird but I wish someone would reissue a vintage figure storage case like this.

I don’t think I had this exact one as a kid but was similar. Feel like one is needed to fully experience the nostalgia.

The Module already arrived. This thing is busy, compared to what I remember of its appearances in the animated series. But I guess that’s always been common. It looks like a lot, but feels like a little. It’s really hollow and lightweight. The many removable parts add very little in terms of play value. There’s the opening cockpit, the pivoting mini cannon, the rotating drill bit, and a couple removable parts rockets. That’s it. There’s a couple of hand grips on the sides of the hull but no foot pegs. It could probably fit about three figures inside, four if you really cram them. I’m glad to have it, but it feels about $10-15 too pricey.

My cousin came to stay with us one summer, probably 1991 or so. We were 9. I had the lair, but it was too small for the both of us, so we went to work building a massive sewer system in the mud room in the back of the house. Huge room nobody was using. We used shoe boxes, cereal boxes, and my brother worked at the local grocery store at the time so he was able to get us boxes from there. We spent about a week cutting and taping a massive labyrinth of sewer, and for the tunnels that connected each room we paper towel cardboard rolls (we had to use our imagination, the Turtles wouldn't fit). We ended up with a training room, a simulator room (we like Star Trek TNG at the time, too), Rat King had a lair...that thing was stacked. We were kids, so it never occurred to us at the time, but I really wish someone had taken photos of it. Probably very janky compared to my memory of it, but we played in that room all summer long and had some crazy adventures we made up to go along with it.

We never thought about soda bottles! Those would have been perfect, good thinking there. Sorry for the long story, but it's really cool to see someone else had the same idea we did! I wonder if there are any kids left in the world doing the things we all did at a young age.

We never built the Technodrome, but should have. We did build a room with a portal to Dimension X, though.

The Mutant Module is up!

Hoping the Sewer Lair and the reissues they showed at Toy Fair come out soon.

I had one as a kid, it was one of my favorite vehicles from any toy line. I'd say the module and the Shreddermobile (anyone remember that?) were my 2 favorites from TMNT, not sure why. I went to all 3 Targets near me over the weekend, and found nothing. But I logged on to the Target app Sunday and lo and behold, it was right there waiting for me! Should be here Wednesday.

I still get excited over toys, obviously, but for some reason I'm extra excited for this. My nostalgia is in overdrive. I'm sure it's very chintzy and cheap compared to my memory, but I don't care at all lol
