PLAYMATES Mutant Mayhem/Tales of the TMNT/etc.

Just remember that we are in the golden age of TMNT figure options. Everyone has done them, we have our pick of era, style, articulation, budget. Never has there been a time when TMNT figure releases were more prolific. Even if licensing wound up altering or changing hands, what more at this point could one ask for?

I have similar concerns. While my TMNT collection is about as complete as most collections can get, I don’t want to see a disruption in the licensing. I worry they’re going to overplay their hand and try to jack up the fees which will end some lines and cause others to get even more expensive. I’m about at my limit with NECA and what they charge. If single packs at 50 become the norm or two-packs at 75 then I’m probably out.

Second season of Tales dropped on Paramount+ today, FYI.
Don't know how it managed to completely sneak by me like that. I don't think I'd even seen a trailer for it. I enjoyed the first season; hopefully this one'll hold up too. Shame we probably won't see any more after this.

I saw three of those new 2 packs with the "knock off" Kung-Fu Tortoises at a local Target this week.

I signed up for Paramount just for the show. Also helped that it was only 3 bucks on Black Friday. It might be a post Christmas watch in my house.

Playmates can't keep up with really any other modern company and I haven't bought a figure from them maybe since the original 2012 figures, but something about this hits me right in the sads.

TMNT was the very first figure line I ever collected when I was like 3 and 4 years old. It has a very special place in my heart and it's thanks to the figures they made.

Yeah, I can’t really pretend that I’ll miss their modern output, but this is a big blow for them. Just look at how much TMNT factored into annual revenue. This is going to end some jobs over there.

I’m guessing Paramount’s new owners want to make more money off the master license which might be bad news for everyone else. There aren’t many properties where domestic producers are able to do their own thing. Maybe McFarlane, after losing DC, can snag TMNT and block out other companies like NECA? That probably wouldn’t be good for anyone.

What other toys does Playmates even make these days? Pretty insane that they are losing TMNT after what, nearly 40 years?

This is a huge bummer. I’ve been loving their retro releases. I hope we at least get a retro release of Android Krang and at least another new wave next year.

Also, I agree this is probably a bad sign for all the companies with a TMNT license. Viacom’s MAGA owners will probably give the license to Truth Social or Turning Point or some other right-wing grift.

I imagine NECA will have to renegotiate what they have... Hell, Mondo might be in for a time, too, they just started that 12" series, and Mezco... It's going to be a big hiccup for sure. You have to imagine all the folks in charge are already gearing up to talk to whomever they have to talk to.

Toy Fair will likely provide insight into everyone’s licensing agreements. Especially since it’s a true trade show.
