One A Day 2.0 Day #421 - Falcon (Joaquin Torres)

Day #384 Guest Starring Billium3 - Mindworm

Would I buy? Yes!
Which version? Classic

One of those ridiculous morts that would be totally welcomed with my other Spidey villains.

Yes to never done, lower level Spider-Man rogues. Can think of a bunch of others I'd rather see before Mindworm but would pick him up. One interesting thing is his powers are way different than most Spidey foes who usually pose a physical threat to Peter, civilians, etc...

Do I want a Mindworm figure? Not especially. Spider-Man was my brothers book, so while I read a bunch of it I didnt read all of it and if the villain didn't jump off the page at me I don't remember him.

His costume is a yellow striped tank top and cargo shorts... He looks like Hector Hammond went to the Shore for the weekend... all that said, if Hasbro decided to slot him into a wave I would buy him at full price to send the message that all obscure villains are welcome. If I have to buy this clown to get Kangaroo and Gibbon and Will o' the Wisp, I'm in.

I don't recall him at all - but would probably add to a Spider-Man villains shelf if made...

Sure. But though there’s a lot of Spidey foes I’d rather get first:
Big Man, Enforcers, Rocket Racer, Hitman, Carrion, Stunner, Commanda, Black Tarantula, Vermin, Ramrod, Boomerang, Cyclone, Spot, Gibbon, Big Wheel, Topaz, Nekra, Iguana, Will o’ Wisp, Ringer, Sin Eater, Enforcer, Foolkiller, Hot Shot, Equilnox, Madame Web, Human Computer, Joystick, Spider-slayer(s), Hippo, Living Brain, Looter, Tinkerer, Lightmaster, 8-Ball, Answer, Armada, Basilisk, Black Fox, Bluebird, the burglar, Chance, Brother Power, Sister Sun, Mandrill, Coyote, CrimeMaster, Crown, Looter, Darter, Doctor Octoball, Swarm, Megasaur, Doctor Time, El Toro Negro, Gale, Foxtrot, Grave Goblin, Humbug, Itsy-Bitsy, Photon (Jason Dean), Judas Traveler, Lascivious, Killer Shrike, Empathoid, Malefactor, Man-killer, Scorpia, Man-Moutain Marko, Mitage, Mr. Abnormal, Hammer & Anvil, Professor Power, Queen Cat, Menace, Rune, Scarecrow, Screwball, Tatterdemalion, Sphinx, Stegron, Panda-mania, Overdrive, Walrus,
…..but eventually, sure.

Why yes, I would buy a Mindworm, as gross as the guy is. He's a classic bronze age Spidey baddy that was created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru. Yes, absolutely.

True factoid you nay find interesting: This issue of Spider-Man was somewhat controversial. Ross Andru was an artist who liked to use real world locations in his work to give the stories a sense of realism. Well, Ross based the house that Mindworm uses as his base in Far Rockaway, Queens, on a real, existing residence. The owner of this house did not take kindly to that. He claimed that he was being harassed by fans after the issue was published. He allegedly sued Marvel, although some folks say he only threatened to sue. Marvel publicly apologized in the letters column of a later issue of Amazing.

I thought that was kind of funny at the time. Stan was probably a little worried, though. 😁
