One A Day 2.0: Day #276 - Mandroids

My big want from that era of young Marvel characters is the Runaways. Nico Minoru holds up. But gimme Molly Hayes, Gertrude Yorke, Karolina Dean, Chase Stein, please and thank you. Old Lace BAF.
 
I enjoyed that series when it came out, but I don't know that I feel a burning need to have those characters when there are many others I'd rather have first. But if they were in a box set all together, with the Avengers brand...? I'd likely cave and hate myself for doing it.
 
Hard pass on Avengers Academy, especially as I would far rather we got the Avengers Initiative recruits as figures (MVP, Cloud 9, Komodo,etc)

It's a big line - there's room for both! Let's get the Young Avengers involved and have a full on push for the next generation!

Absolutely. Legends, more than ever, is geared towards the adult collectors. The MTO model is definitely not aimed at kids. It's one of the prime reasons for a site like this existing and being successful. Sure Hasbro, like Marvel as the source material, need to also try to appeal to kids, otherwise there is no future for either of them. However, they also need to listen to all of us because we actually are the ones who buy their product.
There should be room for the Avengers Academy students, various Initiative members and the original Young Avengers characters. We don't need to be pitted against each other.
 
I loved Avengers Academy! I’d love to get them all. Highest priorities are:

Hazmat—my favorite character on the team; and she’s still relevant; she graduated to be a full Avenger for a while like in Bloodhunt. Love her radiation suit costume. Getting a swappable unmasked head sculpt would be very cool, and a radiation energy effect.

Mettle—awesome look, he’s like a young combination of Colossus and Red Skull. Great character and personality. I loved that he got together with Hazmat. I hated Avengers Arena and Arcade because of what happened to Mettle, but he’s back now.

Reptil— very fun dinosaur powers. He was on the Superhero Squad show, so my kids know about him, too.

Those are my top choices. But I’d be happy to get Veil, Finesse, and Striker, too.

I really liked the Avengers Initiative story as well. Great characters, but they don’t replace Avengers Academy. They are both great teams but very different premises.

Minor spoiler? But the Initiative is what you get when heroes try to train the younger generation in a military academy.

Avengers Academy is what you get when Green Goblin tries to assemble the next generation of the Masters of Evil.
