So, I know this will probably be me, occasionally TSI and like, maybe one other person, but mostly just me talking to myself, but I started the thread anywawy 😁

The draft is now done. Was watching closely this year - one, because I'm always interested to see what my favorite team is going to do. And two, to see what the Dolphins are up to since thats where my nephew signed.

Was gratified to see the Dolphins didn't take a safety in the draft until their third selection in the 5th round. That's a good sign for my guy. He has a legitimate shot to be a starter for the first time in his career. He's training like a fiend, and detemined. Hopefully it works out right for him this time around

As for the Niners... they had a lot of work to do. Glad they invested heavily on the D line. Hopefully they get some help for the o-line somewhere. But the Purdy contract situation hangs over everything. He's been good for them, but not good enough to pay $55 million a year. I feel like if he wont agree to sign for like 45 or 48 a year you play him on his rookie deal and then franchise him next yesr and pick a QB in what is supposed to be a quarterback rich draft next year and let Purdy sign a billion dollar deal with someone else in 2027 while you contend with your second year bargain after that.

45 to 48 seems insane for Purdy. I just checked the QB salaries... and I guess it isn't? I didn't realize most starters were at that price already. Stafford at 40 and Baker at 33 are relative steals in comparison. Tua at 53 and Lawrence at 55 are egregious. Are we sure those guys are good?

The Panthers had a pretty good draft, though I have concerns about Tet.

I agree that $48 million seems crazy high for Purdy... but statistically hes a top 10 QB and that salary is low for top 10 in the market now. I'm not confident he should be paid like one which is why I suggested playing out the string the way I did.

I like the way Tet plays. He needs crisper route running but that can be learned... maybe Steve Smith can drop by and mentor him... but his other skill sets are solid and he doesn't drop the ball. I think he's a solid pick.

Micah Parsons to Green Bay, holy fuck. That's probably enough to make me pick Green Bay over Detroit in the NFC North.

I mean... I kinda get it. Dallas has had a habit of overpaying their own talent which strains the salary cap.. they were trying to be smarter this time... plus Micah is alot. His podcast puts him out there and Jer-rah didn't like the competition. But Dallas is already overpaying their offensive stars, why not go all in? Two first round draft picks, likely in the mid 20's overall aren't going to make a team instantly better... so this is just a mess.

Dallas (well, Jerry) has a habit of leaving negotiations until the last minute thinking he can strong arm his talent into a deal (which always fails). Trying to go behind Parson’s agent was pretty bold of him, but something not surprising. If he does this deal a year ago it’s not nearly as bad. And now Dallas is left hoping Green Bay implodes so those picks have more value. Jerry just runs that organization in a deeply unserious manner.

Anyway, I’m a Patriots fan just hoping for a competitive team after back-to-back seasons of pure futility. I think they’ll be better and they at least have a real coaching staff this year, but the roster is still mediocre and there’s almost zero depth on that team.

See I'm torn. On the one hand I applaud your take on Jones (can't wait until he is gone from the NFL). On the other, as a Bills fan, I must boo you for being a Patriots fan. Also I am sorry but I must hope that you and the other Patriots' fans, endure a decade of sitting in the cold watching as the Bills or, begrudgingly, some other AFC East team dominate while you continue to hope "next season." Not that I'm bitter about Brady and Belichick for all those years......... 😜

It’s all good. It was a 20 year run for the ages so the rest of my football fandom life is basically “all gravy” at this point.

I partly shared in the misery of Bills fans as a child. Somehow, my grandmother always made it to the Super Bowl in a pick ‘em game a friend of the family hosted, but for four years in a row she needed the Bills to win it all. Every Super Bowl it was “If Buffalo wins, grandma will spend some of her winnings on toys for you!” As a Bills fan, you probably don’t need me to remind you how that turned out.

Yep. High school was nothing but playoff misery for me as a Bills fan. Then of course having to hold on to the 4 straight Super Bowl appearances as some kind of validation that the team was great. When in reality we all know they were a good team, but you don't get to be considered great if you don't win at least one Super Bowl.

I don't have a good feel for the NFL this year. I think we see a lot of new faces in the playoffs.

AFC
1. BUF
2. BAL
3. DEN
4. JAX
5. KC
6. NE
7. CIN

NFC
1. GB
2. PHI
3. SF
4. TB
5. DET
6. SEA
7. ATL

Picking the seven seeds in each conference was murder. In the AFC, I could see the lower seed of HOU/JAX, LAC, LV, or CIN. In the NFC, it's between WAS, CHI, MIN, ATL, LAR, and ARZ.

I think the Chargers, Commanders, and Vikings are due for major regression. I don't trust Stafford to stay healthy. I don't trust Kyler, period. I thought JJ McCarthy was mediocre in college. I can't see him lighting it up in the pros after a full year off.

Give me the Eagles over the Bills in the Super Bowl.

I don't really either, but I have a few predictions. I think the Eagles and Bills both have easy paths to their conference title games. The North divisions are going to be bloodbaths, more so on the NFC side. The AFC South sucks and whoever comes out of that with a home game should be an underdog while in the NFC Tampa Bay has a shot at leading the league in points. I'd say KC is due for regression, but they have officially entered "I'll believe it when I see it," territory.

I can’t believe Stafford is still playing. Getting an epidural to play football strikes me as a pretty crazy thing to do.

The national media has much greater expectations for my home town Patriots than I do. I see them as a 7-10 team. Maye will need time to learn McDaniels’ system and his receivers are just okay. The defense has some players, but they’re shallow and Gonzalez has already missed a month with a hammy. Vegas should be a good test out of the gate since the strength of the defense should be the cover guys and the edges and I expect the Raiders to run right at them and attack the middle where they’re light. The Patriots revamped O-line will have its hands full too. I think they win, but it might be close. I think the season will be up and down. They’ll have a big win or two along the way, but unless they get all the breaks and injury luck I don’t see them playing in January.

Looking forward to this season. As a lifelong Steelers fan I'm cautiously optimistic. It took me all 12 stages of grief to get to a place where I almost accept that Rodgers is our QB. Pretty happy with the rest of the team, though I'd have preferred we had someone like Jakobi Meyers as our WR2. I don't have a strong enough feel for the rest of the league to make end-of-season predictions, but it certainly seems like Parsons going to the Packers has swung the pendulum away from the Lions. I also agree with TSI that the Playoffs are going to look a lot different than they have the last few years.
