NECA Mirage Comics line

Still within your return window? $70 is rough. I only want the Shredder in this set so I've been waiting for it to hit a price that is essentially for one figure.

Not sure if it's regional, but I was able to place a pickup order for the Worms of Madness two-pack for $30 just now.

I didn't even realize this set was a thing, but I saw that deal this morning & couldn't resist. Threw in a marked down Classified Series set to get free shipping & my Shredder set got delivered same day! Overall, very cool set, but I wish they'd handle shoulder pads the same way Hasbro has been, so they could rotate out of the way with the arms

Sold out now so doesn’t matter.

On a different note, I finished the third Mirage compendium from IDW, which completes the first volume of the Mirage TMNT comics. I loved it! “City at War” was great. The art and storytelling came a long way from the first issues. I was surprised characters like Fugitoid, the Utroms, and Triceratons didn’t show up after the early stories, though.

Overall, I thought the first volume was really interesting stuff and very engaging because I couldn’t guess what would happen next.

As I mentioned in my earlier posts, I was pretty meh on the second volume, which was the guest era. There were some interesting “takes” on the Turtles from guest creators but most weren’t my thing.

I do have the Mirage volume two hardcover (not to be confused with the IDW compendium volume two) coming in a few days and “The Last Ronin.”

Not sure if there are plans for IDW to ever publish a collected edition of the Image stories.

I also saw IDW is publishing some massive softcover compendiums of their 2000s-era TMNT relaunch later this year. Not sure how all that fits in with Mirage continuity. My goal isn’t to like read every TMNT comic, but I would like to continue with the Mirage continuity.

As for the NECA line, I’m honestly not sure what else the could do from the books that’s a major character. I mean, yeah, there are lots of one-off characters they could do, but not sure what the demand would be for those.

IDW did release the Image stuff in a couple volumes they called Urban Legends. To be honest, I still haven't been able to make my way all the way through them... At any rate, the Mirage continuity ignores them.

Those upcoming compendium omit all the minis and one-shots of the IDW series. There are both HC and SC collections called The IDW Collection that include everything in reading order though. They gather up everything across the whole line through issue 150 of the main book (basically through Armageddon Game with the Jason Aaron run being the cutoff point) in 18 volumes. The softcover versions are still releasing though. And they dont fit with Mirage continuity at all, it's a totally separate thing except in like a multiverse sense.

Whoa, those Urban Legends Image trades from IDW are $600+ on eBay! That’s way too much. Seems like there’s an opportunity do do a single hardcover.

Is there anything else that’s the Mirage continuity?

For the IDW continuity, how important are the one-shots and minis omitted from the compendiums?

Mirage, from what I understand, has the initial first volume 1 run that's like 60-some issues, then there's a vol 2 that re-starts at #1 and goes for about 13 issues:

"Volume 3" is the Image stuff, which got ignored when Laird and Lawson came back to do Volume 4, which is what is currently being re-released issue-by-issue (and eventually in trades) by IDW as "TMNT Journeys":

There were also two volumes of the Tales of the TMNT anthology that was just stories from across the timeline. I don't THINK all of vol 2 of that has been collected so far, there were like 8 slim volumes of Tales trades that got through the first vol but didn't finish the second, to my memory.

I actually haven't read all of the IDW run, so I'm not completely sure about the minis. I imagine it's something like the micro-series and whatnot that Mirage published, where they're side stories about specific characters and add background, but I also know Armageddon Game was a big event at the end of those first 150 issues that seems essential to me.

Thanks! Helpful to understand. The three compendiums have all of Mirage volume one (minus a few guest issues where there were rights issues), and I’ll have the Mirage volume two and TMNT Journeys books, so will just be missing the Image Urban Legends stuff and the Takes of the TMNT trades (which also look to be out of print and very expensive).

It’s been a while since it’s really dug into a “new” comic series, so it’s been fun. I’ve lost interest in what Marvel and DC have been putting out for like the last ten years, and have read most of their prior catalog I wanted to.

I've kinda been holding out hope that they'd do softcover versions of the Mirage stuff more like the IDW Collections, where they collected Tales alongside (forgot to mention that the IDW series had a 25-issue anthology series along with it called TMNT Universe). There are so many weird side stories and things that I (like a huge dork) set up a spreadsheet to see what I had in trades and what I had read, based on this post about Mirage chronology:

This is super helpful!

It actually looks like all the Tales of the TMNT and Urban Legends books are on Kindle for relatively cheap per volume. I generally like to own physical copies now given all the fuckery with streaming companies removing shows and having them unavailable but I’m not paying $600 for the Urban Legends stuff or $50+ per Tales volume.

Also worth noting that Image vol 3 has two endings, an unofficial ending from 2012 (that involved many official TMNT artists) which intended to conclude Image vol 3 in a way that naturally leads into Mirage vol 4, and then the official ending they later made in the last three issues of "Urban Legends".

Looking at the mapping, it looks like there’s still a bunch that hasn’t been collected.

Not sure if I mentioned this here or not:

I spoke with Trevor at NECA a couple of weeks back around the time of the Playmates news breaking. Specifically mentioned how much of a bummer it would be if they lost the license.

Now, granted, Trevor is notoriously...uh...cryptic? Dodgy? Even with friends and acquaintances. He loves fucking with people.

However, he told me, and I quote: "We've done a lot of stuff...", implying that should they lose the license, they've done a lot with it. Which is correct, sure...but definitely didn't give me much confidence in them carrying the license post 2026.

Again, not sure if this is something I'm repeating, but as someone mentioned above, not sure what other major character could be added to the Mirage line...

That does not sound promising.

I think the Mirage line is pretty well done (based on my still developing knowledge of those comics), but there’s a lot to do with the Archie Comics (which don’t even have the core Turtles) and the toon line is missing the kitchen, Molecular Android Krang, and some stragglers like Tempestra. I’ll be very bummed if the license is over before that stuff comes out.

I always still hoped they'd do both this version of Splinter and the demon from his hallucination:

And this guy, but I think he was from one of the stories that had rights issues with the creative team:

Aaaaand this robot from City at War:
