NECA Mirage Comics line

I think these are technically IDW as I don't think Sakai ever illustrated the turtles for Mirage, not that it matters.

Thanks for posting. With just getting into NECA turtles the past month or so I've been starting to look for an Usagi Yojimbo and didn't want to pay third-party seller prices on eBay if they were going to release a new one.

I had the immense joy of tabling next to Stan Sakai in artist alley at a comic con a few years back. The man is a consummate gentleman and and it was wild to listen to him interact with his fans because they were all so reverent to him. Incredible level of respect. Meanwhile I was just nerding out all day internally being like "I'm tabling RIGHT NEXT to Stan Sakai!"

My biggest regret with Super 7 not being able to do Playmates accurate upgrades is that we will never get a Usagi upgrade. He was one of my favorite vintage figures and his look there was very different from what Neca has been able to give us.

I adored the old Playmates Usagi Yojimbo as a kid. I'd pick up an update of him in a New York Minute.

Him and Panda Khan! Neca scratched the itch for Panda Khan though because he isn't that different from the vintage but the Usagi itch remains unscratched.

I breezed right by Panda Khan because I don't have Usagi but I keep going back to see if he's in stock.

Just sharing this impressive display setup I saw on reddit:

That one we can blame NECA on. Super7 had an Usagi mocked-up, but NECA's deal with Sakai to put Usagi in their turtle line was exclusive and cut off Super7 from doing him. Or maybe Sakai saw their products and said "No thanks," to being a part of it.

I vaguely remember hearing that now. Thanks Neca!

NECA also did right by him, I think. It seemed like all the products were launched in a way to tie in to Stan making a profit off of directly retailing them as well as whatever he got for the rights to make the figures themselves. He had exclusives for his store, right? Maybe I'm misremembering.

Still would have been cool though if S7 could have done the toy version, which doesn't really look much at all like Usagi. S7 couldn't get Panda Khan either, right? I've been wobbling on the fence with NECA's version. He looks like a super cool figure, but something about him doesn't connect him to the oldschool toy in my mind, which is the only memory I have of the character. I loved that old figure, I'd love for there to be a big hulking version like S7's Wingnut, but seeing as that is 99% never going to happen, I'm guessing I'll nab NECA's when I next can.

@docsilence - that's awesome you got to table next to him! Did you get to chat during down time or did he have a line the whole time?

Most all my TMNT is currently rotated out of display, but I got a bunch out this weekend just to noodle with on my desk. I love this crew. I wish all IPs I love were given the royal treatment TMNT has been given the past several years.

That little pile of dirt and separating upper half is such a cool feature for Dirtbag.

I LOVE stuff like that. Same with the Roadkill Rodney's emerging from the ground effect, and their zoom dust effects. They really bring a figure to life. Wish we saw more creativity like that across the figure landscape.

@AgentHemlock - just a few passing comments. His booth was relentlessly busy and when he wasn’t talking with fans he was drawing commissions. But he made time for everyone who stopped by.
