NECA Last Ronin

Stumbled on the Casey Marie figure with the babies at Target for 37.99. That’s lower than April with babies was. Needless to say I jumped on that because I’ve only seen POs at $60.

Casey Marie came out really well. Her face is pretty despite the artwork and being bandaged. The two littles are fun, but the white one broke at the neck peg as I tested joints. Was able to replace the broken ball peg with a screw, so the neck works as it should.

Gonna be a big weekend of opening the grown versions of the new gen turtles and the ghost originals.

She's a very pretty figure. The sculpt is great on her hair, too. She's not got the best range for some of her articulation due to the costume, but yeah, I like 'er.

Her sculpt is a bit more cartoony than the others. I’ve noticed a lot of inconsistency in style among these figures. The original Last Ronins (Mike in armor, Mike topless) look like they’re from an entirely different line. The brothers (flashback and spirits) look like each other but not like the aforementioned Mikes. April and Casey are really detailed while Casey Marie looks more generalized.

So I opened the spirits 3pk and the four next gen Turtles.

There isn't much to say about the spirits. They have similar bodies with arm and leg wraps and knee pads being the main difference. Nice to see that variation where they didn't really need to. What's really nice is how they executed the translucence. You can definitely see through them, but not so much that the articulation becomes a distraction, and the details of their sculpts, especially their faces, are clear and distinct. Hasbro could learn from this.

The new four are a lot of fun. I love that they have unique individual builds. They each come with one of the original four's weapons (one sai, one nunchuck, one bo, one katana), plus a full array of hands, at least an alternate head each, removable hoods/scarves and some individual accessories, like a handheld game console for Uno, what looks like a cassette mix tape for Moja, a screwdriver and tool sleeve for Yi, and big oven mitts for Odyn? I haven't read their stories, so I don't know the references. I would definitely like to get to know these new characters. My only real issue with these figures is the grip hands are nearly too tight to hold most things on just about every figure, and every loop meant to store the bo is way too tight. None can store them without getting them stuck and eventually ripping the loop off. They seem to fit katana ok. That's pretty inconsistent, some have spots to store most weapons, others have storage spots for just a few weapons. Aside from that, these might be my favorite from the whole Last Ronin line, though the flashback four come really close.

Run a hair dryer over the loops and they'll accept any weapon you put in there much easier.
Yeah, but when I want to take the weapon out once it cools, I'll need to reheat. That's a little inconvenient. It shouldn't be a task to hold and store weapons. But then it shouldn't be a task to work joints either, and these days, heat seems to be prerequisite. Not my favorite thing about modern action figures.

Just starting to get into this line. I’ve noticed that most figures looks to be available for retail. The only exception I’m seeing is Splinter. It looks like he’s only available new from outside the US for high prices plus shipping/import fees. What’s going on there? Did he have distribution issues?

Also, are there any other figures that are similarly more rare/expensive?

Casey was REALLY hard to find for a year or so, but Target wound up listing him and he was pretty readily available. He was the biggest hole in my collection til about a month ago.

Something may have been up with him. I remember Nostalgia Unboxed basically swore off NECA because they just never fulfilled his order for Last Ronin Splinter (and some other shipping related issues). I don't collect this line though so I don't know if he was ever readily available anywhere. I don't recall ever seeing him on a shelf, but I also wasn't looking.

I have Splinter, and maybe saw him ONCE at Walmart? But that was after I had mine, so I wasn't paying close attention. I didn't realize he was hard to find affordably now. He is a pretty great figure, incidentally. I think if Casey could show up at Target, it's possible Splinter could too?
