NECA - General Thread

Yeah, that is a slippery slope. Years ago I bought Big Red and that was going to be my only one... but then I got Lava Planet... and then Nightstorm... and then Wasp and Viper... and then it was an avalanche. It can be dangerous and expensive. I think at one point I had over 40 figures... not counting the handful of Dutch figures I bought

A couple of years ago I decided with my limited space I didn't have the ability to display them and so I sold them off... all except Big Red. Now I've ordered the samurai armor one but I can't let it open the flood gates.

I got Shaman on impulse and now that I have him in-hand I need a regular predator so I can put Shaman in his full Shaman glory with the skull mask and poncho. He's pretty standard underneath that stuff so he works as a baseline predator, but he's so unique otherwise. Got City and Jungle on the way because I have FALLEN HARD down that slippery slope.
 
I have thankfully not gone whole hog into the NECA AvP line, only getting a few here & there (I actually don't even think I have a NECA Yautje - I have the hound from Predators, I have Machiko...I have a Figuarts Pred...I have a couple of the AvP McFarlane dios; and man, oh, man, I NEEDED that Night Cougar Xeno), but holy shit, that Samurai Pred looks fucking AMAZING.

How's the hound from Predators? I think the only thing I liked about The Predator (2018) were the hunting dogs the assassin predator brings with him, but I like them better than the Predators hound, not sure I want to run one down.

I thiiiiink I can limit myself on these. I cut myself off at three xenos specifically for photo stuff (I wanted enough to feel like a swarm in a crowded shot but don't need like, ten) and wanted ONE normal predator for photo stuff, but of course I start looking into them and the whole hidden backstories thing starts intriguing me. And naturally the samurai one is like, exactly the kind of thing I'd want to get.
 
I have a Figuarts Xeno, the aforementioned McF dios, and a NECA Sewer (I want 2 more, but I don't currently have room in my TMNT movie display lol), a 3 Dog, and the Night Cougar, IIRC. Like you said, limits are good lol. (My best friend has two full displays - one all Preds, one all Xenos - and they are definitely impressive, but not something I'd want to do)

The articulation is fine I guess, and those back...branches? lol...always worry me that I'm gonna break them, but it's a great sculpt! I definitely wouldn't mind a second.
 
I jumped on right away with Neca and the Aliens and Predators, intending to get everyone that appeared in a movie. I never got anyone from Prometheus onward for Aliens though, or The Predator onward for them. And now I sold all but 3 or 4 Lost Predators from Predator 2, and the Predators predators, all my humans but Ripley carrying Newt, and only have the queen and warrior from Aliens. But I got to a point where I was happier with just the ones I really like over cool volume.

My plan. MY PLAN. (I say, side-eyeing my own lack of willpower). Is three xenos for action figure photos. If they ever release a queen again so I can buy it at retail and not after-market prices, I might do that. I'd like Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop, but if I can't find all four I don't need them at all so there's not much temptation there. And for Predators I literally only wanted one for photos so they could hunt Joes and Marvels, but the Lost Tribe is way cooler than I thought. I legit spent two weeks looking at "best articulation," "if you only owned one NECA predator which one would you want," every reddit thread... and I still ended up buying more than one. Though I think I can hold myself accountable to the two old-school movie predators, the Shaman cos he's delightfully weird, and maybe Ahab if I can find him because, I'll be totally honest, because my vision is getting super weird on me in my old age, scarred up one-eyed bastards are really appealing to me so Ahab just speaks to my current mood.

That sounds completely reasonable, and I'm sure you can. but if you change your mind, I won't think less of you.

I know! Of course, when I saw the movie in the theater and they all show up at the end, I soiled myself. In the good way. So when Neca started making them, I soiled myself again. They really are great, especially all together. And I just looked and actually I sold alllll of them except the City Hunter and the one that has the mask that was almost used in the original movie. (Guardian Predator) So I just have those two, the Jungle Hunter, and the three from AVP with the main guy as my only unmasked one and roaring. I actually really liked the AVP guys, and yes I like Celtic even beyond his name.

All good reasons... and they're reasons beyond "just get 'em all!" And just getting them all is perfectly fine, but you obviously want to limit, so I know all about setting purposeful boundaries. The personal connection route is sound.

All good reasons... and they're reasons beyond "just get 'em all!" And just getting them all is perfectly fine, but you obviously want to limit, so I know all about setting purposeful boundaries. The personal connection route is sound.

It's funny getting into NECA cos it's something that really can be piecemeal/cherry picked - they may never release a full cast, or the characters are so specific it's a short commitment (I'm eyeing the Lee/Cushing Dracula/Helsings, but that's a two-figure commitment! And I caved on the Jaws characters but I could be sold on literally one more figure if they ever release Brody and the whole collection is done for me).

For Predator/Alien it's pretty easy to buy based on two criteria: will I get a lot of use out of this for photos, or could I see this figure standing on a shelf for years in my office. Ahab's the latter, and the xenos/movie predators are the former, and I can be chill with that, unlike certain other lines where I have no willpower and shall remain nameless (cough cough Joes).

I did go a bit overboard on TMNT Neca last month, but only cos I was so impressed by Old Man Raphael (ANOTHER ONE EYED OLD BASTARD!) I just wanted one clean, complete set of the brothers. I'll for sure pick up a character here and there if I see one, but don't feel like I have to get everything.
 
Right, aside from Aliens and Predator, I was real piecemeal with Neca. I would grab one or two horror characters a year for a while. I think the last one I got was Pennywise, but... I really kinda want a damned Beetlejuice now. And I kinda hope they don't do What We Do In The Shadows, Monster Squad, and Tremors because that means I probably won't get anymore Black Series or Marvel for a while.

Fun fact about me: I love, LOVE horror movies but, unless it's got a sci-fi bent, I don't want figures like Pennywise or Freddy in my house. They creep me out sufficiently that don't want to make eye contact with them!
 
Gremlins (the first time, and then especially Gremlins 2) is what got me into NECA, and then I started branching out from there. Focused largely on the horror stuff, but also TMNT once they started going whole-hog there. I also really love the Toony Terrors stuff, but those releases have slowed a lot for me both as they seem to do fewer of them and as they focus more on newer modern properties.
