NECA '87 Toon TMNT

Not to bring out the 'in this economy?!' argument but is NECA really going to try to sell a van with new accessories and, at minimum, an exclusive driver? I gotta think that'll be crazy expensive and only really appeal to the people that missed out on the van -and- are willing to pay more for it than it originally sold for. Am I wrong here?

I can't imagine they'd rerelease the van, now of all times. Tariffs plus all the ill-will with Donnie's Lab... but who knows. Crazier things have happened I guess. I tried selling mine on eBay and it sat like a rock for a while, eventually I took it down. It was only a little, like maybe 5 dollars max, over what I paid in total to NECA (price plus tax and shipping) plus the eBay fees and calculated shipping to the seller (which was probably going to be a lot), so I wouldn't be out of pocket.

Decided to keep it after all, but still haven't opened it up. Saving it for a rainy day. Might be the last NECA toon thing I open--a finale.

I'd reckon it's those vacation turtles though. Could be a 4 pack release of the Pizza Club turtles with soft good shirts and plastic hats, similar to the TiD set. They'd go well with Vacation Beebop and Rocksteady.
 
Off-topic question, but I’m looking at the NECA visual checklist right now. Are the style guide bright green versions of the Turtles the ones from the Target haulathon pack in 2022? Or the Leonardo/Donatello and Raphael/Michaelangelo two-packs from 2019? Or they both the same bright green color?

They were both the same bright green. It was only the later 4 pack that had the swappable expressions, best I can remember.

Just trying to figure out how many different versions there really are. I have the Pizza Clubs that are the dark green and make me think of how they look on the actual show in terms of color. Not the biggest fan of the heads with that set, though.

I think altogether chronologically there was:

The SDCC first set of the dark green

Dark green two packs (Mikey/Foot, Raphael/Foot, Leo/Shredder, Donatello/Krang)

The bright green two packs

The Turtles in disguise 4 pack (dark green)

The bright green 4 pack

The pizza club individuals (dark green)

I could be forgetting something or have the order somewhat scrambled. There has been a lot of basic turtle re-releasing going on.

They’ve never updated the actual bodies, right? I know the heads and accessories included in releases vary. I feel like with the Pizza Club set, the Target Haulathon light green set, and the Turtles in Disguise set, you’d basically have everything.

Also, don’t realize until now looking at an eBay auction that that first SDCC pack is in collectible case meant to be like the old storage case for the original Playmates set.

Yeah I have that case. It's just like the old ones from when I was a kid.

They did update the bodies at some point. I think starting with the Turtles in Disguise. The hips were improved.
 
There have been minimal updates to the bodies. The pin and hinge hips were replaced for the Turtles in Disguise set (and as a running change on the Slash/Leatherhead two-pack) with the now standard ball pegs. The feet were also ball pegs on the original figures, but are now hinge and rockers.

If this tease includes a van re-release, I have to assume it's because they already went into production with it otherwise it seems like a crazy thing to offer in this climate. Doubtful it would be a van+exclusive figure(s) since that would cut out too many loyalists who already have a van. If the van is coming back, it will probably be two separate offerings of the van and a turtle four-pack or something similar.

One of my Bluesky mutuals also reminded me that April and Irma had beach looks in the show, though I think it's more likely than not this is a tease just for beach turtles:

When do they usually announce the SDCC exclusive? And is it usually available online on neca’s store?

Sorry for all the questions. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten into a line so late. I’ve stopped myself from getting into this line so many times while finding releases at Target or seeing the Sewer Lair, but finally decided to go all in.

Usually right around this time, maybe June? World Turtle Day has been the announcement day in the past, last year it was a little later. I have no idea if World Turtle Day is the same day every year or if it's one of those things that moves around. Within the next few weeks though is when we'll probably find out their plans for San Diego and how the exclusives are being handled. They're always available online and at the convention, when there's been a physical convention.
 
Ha, I almost posted that same pic of Irma and April yesterday but never did. I guess it could be them, but like you said, most likely the Turtles in their summer gear.
