NECA '87 Toon TMNT

I wanna find those two something fierce. They don't exist in Canada so I don't know where if Ali doesn't come through for me at some point.
They look great, though. NECA is killing it to the point where I really want them to take another 100% all new stab at the original Turtles. See what they can do given all the improvements they've made over the last few years.

It's amusing to me how satisfied I was with NECA's first pass at toon Shredder, and then this one just looks so much better. It still doesn't really articulate all that well, but that's NECA for you. I too would like to see a total redo of the turtles at some point. That would be a way to cap-off the line for me as I'm running out of figures I want. My dream is for them to base the sculpts off of the original intro animation where I think the characters looked their best.

Good idea. I only finally got the Turtles with the Pizza Club releases, but something with more available expressions and especially in the style you mention could really get me to go for them again. Aside from that, I do kind of like all these what-if figures they're doing, like Panda Kahn and Wyrm (though I don't really want Tattoo and probably won't be spending the $65 to get Wyrm). But Shredder was my last "must" for the line and I'm glad I caught him online.

I never thought I needed new turtles after the TiD set, but seeing Dark Leonardo's double elbows has me rethinking that. He's actually such a nice figure, I'm disappointed in myself for not picking him up at Target (I was disappointed that they didn't have Shredder so I just kind of passed in a "screw NECA!" way). But also like, where the heck would I put him? Buying "alt design" turtles is a slippery slope!

I just think NECA, while certainly not perfect, has come really far with this line since the first Turtle bodies were designed and it's a shame we're still getting re-releases on those bodies. Surely they've made their money on those by now, and surely MANY collectors would jump at new Ultimate Turtles.

A big sticking point for me on that matter is that they actually learn from and implement improvements they've made over the years. If we get a new set of Turtles, they need to EACH come with ALL the different hand options relevant to the character, as well as multiple facial expressions. I fucking hate constantly getting a set of Turtles that can't all have the same expressions (they can't all be having fun, they can't all be serious, etc). I have the Pizza Club ones right now and it's just weird that I couldn't necessarily choose to display them all hanging out at the lair having a good time, or all angry about to fight Shredder or whatev. At one point I tried to set them all up like they were goofing around making pizza, but Donnie is just over here with angry face and no other options.

Anyway, yeah. They can do better than what we've gotten and I'd like to see them do that before the line runs its course. And let's be honest - at this point most people buying new Turtles probably already have at least one existing set. I just want them to focus on the actual Turtles and their specific accessories. I don't need them not including extra faces or something because they feel like we need a ziploc worth of random bits that appeared in 8 seconds of one episode. I LIKE that stuff, but we have lots of it and I really want to focus now on getting the best possible version of the turtles.

I wonder if they purposefully called those solo releases "Pizza Club" instead of Ultimate because of the lack of hands and expressions? I only bought the Donatello one because I wanted that stupid effect piece, but it's ridiculous that each turtle didn't come with a set of neutral eyes and a set of angry eyes. They should have basically been packaged like the 1/4 scale turtles with a few extra bits tossed in. The new Archie bodies just demonstrate to me how far NECA has come as far as just hitting the right nuance with their sculpts. The toon turtle bodies are almost too slender and lean for the source. The turtles in the show are muscular, but there's a roundness and a softness to their physique that the figures don't really capture.

100%. And note how NECA fans, and fans of the line, filled in the blanks. "Pizza Club" is their version of "Ultimate" is a description I read many times online.

I wonder if NECA is willing to give us the "Deluxe" versions most of us want, aka what Damien described. Really just want all four turtles, matte finish, new articulation, with all the heads, hands, and weapons they've done, or at least enough to feel like a complete version of the toy. Surely they've released enough of these various turtles that this is next for them, right? I guess it's been a minute since I watched the cartoon; it's very possible NECA has a laundry list of minor background accessories to cram into these sets for years to come (which obviously is cool for completionists).

Back to what Misfit was saying, I'd like to see NECA release "ULTIMATE" versions of the current sculpts, and do a new more muscular base body. Do it well from the start, no going back to single-joint elbows. It didn't even dawn on me until you said it, that the bodies do not look like the cartoon. Maybe that's why I'm so adamant about keeping the big TiD trenchcoats on mine. I think that's the only thing that would get me to buy more toon turtles, make 'em big buff boys!

I found Panda Khan at the Target in Jackson, TN today. Usually one of the worst Targets one could ever choose to go to but today it actually proved fruitful. I was not expecting him to be as big as he is. He a chonk.

The current bodies not looking as round as the cartoon is a good description, I think. I had the TiD set, it was the only toon set of the bros that I had, and I sold it because I just didn't like the look of them. I didn't even know exactly why at the time, but I think the comment of them not being "round enough" just clicks with me. That was the reason.

I think it was in that animated movie, Turtles Forever, where they meet up with the 2003 Turtles and the Mirage Turtles in another universe, and the Mirage Turtles mention the OG toon guys as "doughy" or "pudgy" or something (it's been a long time since I've seen it)...I thought it was funny at the time, but thinking about it now it's not far off. And the current bodies don't quite fit the doughy-ness. I'm assuming they'll do base-turtles for the Archie line at some point, I wonder if that would delay them doing new Toon bodies at all (hypothetically, if Neca were interested in it).

I snagged toon Shredder (and Mirage April) from the online Haulathon last Friday, so I'm looking forward to getting them. I've had the original toon Shredder, and also had the Pinball Shredder, and neither really did it for me 100%. This new one looks like the definitive toon guy, though.

Tattoo and Wyrm will be available online this Friday as part of Target's Haulathon. I'm pretty excited about Wyrm and Tattoo will get stuck on the shelf somewhere but he's kind of boring.

Definitely wondering if it'd be worth it to go through the hassle of trying to offload Tattoo or just try and pick up Wyrm secondhand...

100% in the same boat. I loved my Wyrm figure as a kid but Tattoo is not something I'd want in my display.

For those of you who are buying into this new wrinkle in the line, characters who weren't in the cartoon but had a vintage figure, what are your top five biggest wants?

Mine would probably be:

1. Walkabout
2. Monty Moose
3. Hothead
4. Halfcourt
5. Doctor El

I'm all for remakes/updates for any vintage figure though and would prefer them to some of the deepcuts from the cartoon like Crazy Eddie who I haven't picked up yet and probably won't.

I don't think I have deep enough knowledge of the toon to have definite wants beyond what's already out there (not to say something couldn't catch me eye!), so I too am interested in versions of the vintage toys. I checked through the list and came up with basically exactly what you posted, but I also want Scale Tail.

There are also a number of concepts by Eastman/Laird for unmade toys/characters that I'd like to see get figures, but those might fit better over on the Mirage side of the line.

For me it's a little flipped... lots of toon/figure characters I'd love to see in the grungy Mirage style. Especially Bebop and Rocksteady.

But I might pickup a Walkabout and King Lionheart (I don't think he was in the cartoon?)

I'd also be into some of the figure variants, like Rapper Mike, being translated into a toon version.

Honestly, I'm probably about tapped out of the toon line. At this point it would just be any figure that seems pretty cool on it's own right and might freshen up my display. I would purchase another set of the brothers with new bodies, multiple heads, and like Misfit said, based on the opening intro designs/first five eps. I have so many fun whacky accessories, so I'd rather they just get their specific weapon if it means they can have more expressions, hands, even feet (okay without toe articulation, but a bent toe swap out might be cool) Don't really need another set of ninja stars or grappling hooks etc. But a bandana-less head, closed eye/meditating expression, and some really dynamic eyes/mouthes would be great. Otherwise, aside from Shredder, there's not many 2.0's I really need.
