NECA 2012 Turtles

They are.

Once again, RNL is never wrong…

But UGH!!! My two tracking numbers… I was sent a double order! So what do I do contact NECA customer service and hope they actually read my email and send me a return shipping label not a death threat?

The bitter irony to this is, Raph has NEVER shown as in stock for me, if I get a “back in stock” notice by the time I get into the app he’s gone… so I’ve got two of each of the other turtles when I only ordered one and still can’t get the fourth! Why couldn’t they have fucked up just a little harder and least accidentally made one of the dupes Raph!

Mystery package was my whole order. All four 2012 Turtles and Shredder. No shipping notification as of yet. My order is also still listed as Unfulfilled in my account history.

Full set arrived via Walmart. Didn't realize they have connecting mural packaging. And they're numbered. I'd go in order, but they're each so similar that I can generalize most of this. These figures are not perfect, but they are excellent.

Donatello is first. Comes with his signature bo, a removable half with the blade extended, microscope goggles, remote control device, Dr. Cluckingsworth. Michelangelo is second. He comes with two nunchaku, and one with a hook blade and an extra long chain, and Ice Cream Kitty. The handles of the nunchucks are interchangeable but peg in too loosely. Raphael is third, and he comes with his two sai, Chompy Picasso, and Robo-Roach. Leonardo is fourth, and he comes with two katana (one slightly shorter, so I imagine it has a different name?) a big tech weapon I can't ID (full disclosure, I've had to google a bunch of these pack-ins because my memory just isn't that fresh). Leo’s sheathes are very tight. Each turtle comes with a comm, a smoke bomb egg, a slice of pizza, an alternate head and 4-6 alternate hands. I will be leaving the white out eyes on all of them until they release a regular eyes head for Leo.

Speaking of the hands, each are wearing their grip hands, and those grips are VERY tight. Not easy to get them to hold any of their weapons. Articulation is good, but tight sometimes in the double joint hinges at the limbs (Raph's knees are very tight) and rocker ankles need to be worked gently at first. They have a pivot at the upper torso that goes side to side, but like most TMNT figures, not really a way to do a functioning waist joint. Ball/socket necks. Hinge peg wrists. Static bandana ties, no swivels. They are all painted beautifully with subtle shading and texturing. That might be one of the most stand out things to me having handled the Playmates and Revoltech predecessors.

Shredder is numbered 6; I imagine Foot Soldiers are 5. He's TALL. He comes with an Utrom, an alternate head, four alternate hands, four removable long blades, two removable pointed blades. I moved him around in the package and thought the alternate head was there to swap for an un-helmeted look, but the helmet is removable (!) with a snug fit and a different expression. Nice surprise. Also, he's got more articulation than the Turtles, with a functioning mid torso pivot for rotation, and swivels at the top and bottom of his leg armor, and the top of his gauntlets. I like that the long blades are removable, as they can be cumbersome. One minor thing is that one of the blades from the left leg armor popped off while removing him from the package. Will need to glue that back in.

I can't believe I'm getting into yet another line of TMNT. Problem is, this is my most favorite iteration and I'd feel dumb to pass on any. But there's a real potential for this line to go deep. Only thing I could see preventing that is price. Nearly $40 each at the moment is expensive, and this show featured characters that got really big. Potential for price increases, maybe license fatigue, could also be factors for this line to not make it. But it's off to a magnificent start.

I've been finding you can get some forward and back movement out of the inner-torso joint, so I think that's a full ball joint, not just side to side.

Will it hold a pose against that shell? The shell is notoriously what hampers any kind of range. It definitely blocks forward motion from the hips/thighs.

So are these exclusive to Walmart?

I asked my usual NECASource in Canada and he told me he doesn't think he's getting it in the future. As any hasn't seen anything about them going wide.

Does your Canadian NECASource happen to be ecollectibles?

Because that fucker is a fool. I would not take him as a reputable source of information. Again, if it's him.

I mean, mine have? The shell's pretty pliable (I was rather pleasantly surprised by that). I didn't find the joints to be as hindered there as I would've expected. Granted you're not gonna get some MAJOR deep crunches or anything.

So what are everyone’s top wants for this line? For me, it’s:

Splinter
Tiger Claw
Casey
Utrom robots/dudes in suits
Fishface
Dog Pound
Leatherhead
Slash
Metalhead
