NECA 2012 Turtles

And the show never really stops introducing cool mutant designs. I don't love every single one of them, but I definitely like more than I don't...

I am still thoroughly enjoying this show, 22 episodes in. I love when a human character that has been on the show for a few episodes suddenly gets mutated because it's a surprise. On the old cartoon it was either pretty obvious what was going to happen or I just already knew because I had seen the episodes so many times before. I actively look forward to watching the next episode of this one and meanwhile the figure want list continues to grow. Just watched the Mutagen Man episode this morning before work. Poor Timothy aka Pulverizer.

Mutagen Man is definitely up there on my list. I always like that goofy guy, just something about living-brain type characters to me...

Newtrilizer is my biggest want now. Just watched his intro episode. I had fire belly newts regularly for pets as a kid and had completely forgotten about them until I saw him. That will make for one striking figure.

Well that second Dog Pound mutation sure caught me off guard. I'm guessing at some point Neca will do him as Dog Pound and as Rahzar.

I still think a big problem for NECA is going to be finding a balance between ignoring the proper scale between the characters and not pissing people off. I've said a bunch of times in the past that one of the biggest impediments to a good 2012 figure line is you basically need the Turtles to be like 3" for the line to be feasible. Otherwise you might as well stick with the shitty Playmates figures where the Turtles are bigger than all the giant mutants they fight because Playmates is Playmates.

Been top of mind when I think of this line since it was announced, yup. Definitely think they should have started with smaller Turtles.

I think it will be like the 87 toon line. Somewhere in the middle. Bigger characters will be close, but it's not going to be 1000% show accurate.

It's been a long time since I sat and watched every episode - but based on glancing through stills and such, I think the '87 line is fairly cartoon accurate. The biggest problem is just the Turtles themselves really being a touch too tall, but everyone else scales with each other fairly well (again, to the best I can tell). The biggest offender seems to be April. Her being like a quarter inch too short and the Turtles being like a quarter inch too tall really messes up the look of them together.

The JoyToy scale would actually be perfect for a 2012 line.
Definitely. They're already proving they can handle size differences with characters REALLY well. In fact, I think it's one of the most compelling parts of that line.

I wonder which NECA we get with this line.

The Mirage-esque approach that gets us Splinter, Casey, even April relatively soon.

Or the Archie line where they're having fun, but reaaaally slow burning things as basic as regular turtles.

I'm trying to remember, Trevor said they had 10-12 figures already sculpted. We've got the four turtles, Shredder, Foot, we have teases for Slash and Splinter already...so still two more after that. It feels like they're jumping in hard.
