NECA 2012 Turtles

I wonder when these will be hitting. I've never watched a single episode of this show but I'm anxious to add at least the 4 Turtles to my collection. I have a hard time saying no to Turtles.

This show was so good. Maybe my favorite incarnation of the Turtles. 1989 movie is a close second, only because it’s only movie length. The Nick series really gave storylines time to simmer and had great character development.

I just watched the first episode. I think I'm going to like this show.

If you've read any of the comics, seen any of the earlier iteration of the cartoon, or are a pop culture geek of any kind, this series should be a hit with you.

It is a legitimately good show. If you can get past the look of the show then you'll probably like it. It was made in that unfortunate era where every kid's show had to be 3D rendered. Stylistically speaking, I think it's fine. Some character designs I like, some I don't. It's more that the environments are low textured and empty. Then again, I watched some of the 2003 show recently and its NYC is pretty empty as well.

I'm hoping we'll get a release window at SDCC. I think they plan on selling these individually and I'm guessing they're going to be $40 a head given the overall price increases we're seeing. Hopefully they're not Target exclusives or exclusive to any one retailer.

4 episodes in and I'm really enjoying the personalities of the Turtles in this show. I definitely prefer Raphael and Mikey here over the 1987 show. I was never a big fan of either back then. Mikey in particular is endearing on the 2012 version and I enjoy seeing Raphael giving him so much shit but then also being brotherly when he needs to be.

Speaking of, I thought Donatello's voice was familiar and I checked out the credits and of course it was Rob Paulsen, the 1987 Raphael voice actor.

Mikey is my absolute favorite on this show, as someone who never cared for any previous incarnation of Mikey. Usually so one dimensional, in this series, he is sooo much more! Can’t wait for you to see that unfold.

The best news, swinging it back to the toys: I asked Trevor Zammit a while back, and it's looking like these will not be exclusives. General release!

It does a really good job of folding in characters/events from the previous incarnations, for sure. It's probably overall my favorite series that I've watched ('87 as a kid, not all the way through, 2003, 2012, Rise, and the new movie/Tales).

As far as exclusivity goes, I guess it hadn't even occurred to me to think that it might be. But I suppose as only the second line based on one of the shows, it made sense to wonder. Still very worried about pricing on like ... every non-Turtle character given the sizes of both this scale and the actual character designs.

I watched the episodes with Snake Weed and Spider Bite last night and was already thinking about how they would look if Neca did them in a proper scale.

The Playmates versions of Snakeweed and Spyder Byte were not awful for the type of mass market line it was. Most of the figures were fine, but size/scale was always an issue. Most bad guys were just too small, which makes sense if packaging constraints are a consideration. I don’t think I’ll be able to stomach buying a bunch of oversized figures at NECA prices, but I doubt I’ll be able to stomach missing out on them even more.

The blood of my wallet will be on the hands of all of you who encouraged me to watch this show. Now instead of just calling it a day with the 4 Turtles I'm sitting here making a mental list of what I want to see Neca make. With 4 full seasons worth of characters I'm sure the list will get long.

Splinter is so dryly hilarious. I've laughed out loud at him several times.
