ML Secret Wars

Opened Magik first, because of... issues. Her armored bicep is fine. Actually moves great - very smooth, the whole arm.

On mine, her right knee is... strange? It bends, but it's not smooth and ratcheted. It almost feels like the peg inside the knee is twisting instead of the letting the knee bend properly. Going to boil and freeze to see if I can get it moving a bit more normally. I could see this being something that caused the leg to fall off in a few years once the secondary market price is fucked.

Pulse usually ships pretty securely, so those will be my carded copies. Still waiting on notice for Constrictor. I don't think I'll even get a half-Symbiote Spidey to keep carded though.

First law of the universe is that when your number one, first-draft pick, most-wanted character gets made ... something's up with it. I gaslit myself into being fine with classic Miss Marvel not being Carol Danvers. Godspeed to SD when they finally give him his Jim Hammond.

I live in fear of what may happen to Dracula.

On the other hand: Hasbro just gave me a “no notes” Hooded Cobra Commander, who was my #1 draft pick in Classified. Sometimes it works out.

And sometimes it doesn’t.
Even if the figure itself is good.

Alright, wave opened. Nice to get some old Legends updated - Falcon especially... I never realized they'd flipped the lower bodies in production between variants. Yikes. Anyway, good riddance to that 25+ year old figure.

I was able to free up Magik's knee (I think) to the point where the ratchets are actually working... so that figure is great. I really like it - great shelf presence.

As mentioned, Falcon is a fantastic figure and a very good update. I ordered a second to display with the flight wings so I can hang it from the top of one of my shelves.

Constrictor is good, and should have been a homerun "I never need another one" version. The missing deco on the back... will I notice it on the shelves? No, but I will if I do any photography with it I probably will avoid showing the back of him. So now I guess I'm just waiting for the maybe next release (likely in a multipack) that adds the paint. Mine also had one of the butterfly joints jammed into the torso, so there's a nice dent in the plastic. May have to replace that. Annoying, and haven't really had that happen before.

Absorbing Man is good - though I do find myself wishing they would standardize articulation in Legends after posing him, specifically the ab crunch to the rocker. The annoyance over non-powered parts is valid, but I prefer to photoshop things like that for photography anyway - so I'm happy with non-active power figures. Also having some spare BAF arms helps, if I need them.

Daredevil is incredible. Better than I hoped. My only issue is that I know my favorite Daredevil figure ever will be the inevitable next release of it. This will do for now.

Ahhh Spider-Man. The colors on the red and blue are great. The plastic is much better than the Magic release of this body and I don't have to worry about sheering off the legs at the crotch. Had they just released a regular red/blue figure on this body with this coloring - you have a great modern Spider-Man. Doesn't match the body of the symbiote release in the last wave, but it would still have been a good modern version. Easily the top seller of the wave, maybe second. Instead, they applied a polarizing black deco with a new arm and face overlay... and this will easily make the figure a peg warmer. You actually have to marvel ( 👀 ) at the decision there which took a guaranteed hot seller of an A-list character... and turned it into a figure no one really wants or needs. That's special.

Magiks arrived from Walmart last night and both have gunk on them visible before opening. One's abdomen has black goo (oil?) on it and the other has flecks of blue paint in the yellow that I can't tell if they are in the plastic or not. Her yellow/blue lines are also very hit or miss, and both faceprints look slightly off - one's left eyebrow is definitely more centered than the other.

Not opening either, for my most-anticipated of the wave. I'll just wait to find better copies.

Also, her ridiculously empty package still pisses me off.

So, forgive me for slightly derailing the thread for a minute, but Magik's inclusion makes me wonder this.

We (most of us) want the original New Mutants line-up in their training uniforms. We've said that had Magik included a swappable arm, we'd have likely bought multiples. But that makes me wonder about Wolfsbane. When they do her figure, are we hoping for just red-headed girl in training uniform? Or her transitional form? Or (pipe dream) a 2-pack with her human in training uniform and a wolf to go with her?

If they do her transitional form, like the Human Torch I'd want a depowered "red-headed girl in training uniform" figure as well.

Just kind of randomly popped into my head. As you all were.

So I took the belt off the old Walgreens (I think) brown and yellow Daredevil and swapped it onto my new Secret Wars Daredevil. I think you can still acquire that figure for next to nothing. Anyway, the colors match and it fits perfectly. It may even be the exact same mold. I also removed the black lines on the boots and gloves. This is 90% the figure I want until Hasbro gets around to it.

Human-form Rahne should be easy - just pack an extra head in with Karma. A separate release of Wolfsbane's transitional form would be great - in the classic NM comics I don't think she ever retained any of the uniform when she transitioned, right - just full on werewolf? Her full wolf form is lowest priority for me given the decent options that are out there from other lines.
