ML Preorders and Fanstreams -

Well shit. All I ever saw was available on Amazon. That’s what I get for skimming. I’d have waited for it to be in stock at BBTS or something. Oh well.

The sculpt from that figure wasn’t the worst. It actually had a pretty nice face sculpt and physique. It’s that counterintuitive articulation that wastes the figure. Those hips are amateur hour.

Honestly one of my least favorite figures in the entire history of the line, and one of the few unique characters I sold off without a replacement in sight. Definitely added to the excitement of getting this excellent looking replacement.

Well I reluctantly preordered Doc Sampson today (might cancel it later). The $35 msrp is a bunch of @#$%. Blatant gouging!
Since Hasbro is unwilling to make most of the characters on my top 10, it's getting easier and easier to pass on almost everything they are releasing. So when they do make a character I actually want it's a surprise. Unfortunately, those characters are increasingly being offered in a less than satisfactory manner. (Looking at you Skurge BAF and now Doc Sampson) If I keep the preorder, I'm definitely passing on anything else that was a maybe. I'm buying less and less. If $35 is the new norm, It'll be time to walk away.

I’m just gonna throw out the possibility that a price adjustment may be coming. Mattel is able to make these amazing “kid figures” for $13.99, so is it outrageous to believe that they can come in under $27.99 for the collector line? $24.99 would smoke Hasbro and force them to reassess their pricing structure. Hasbro has essentially had a monopoly on superhero action figures as I don’t believe that they were ever competing with Todd directly. Even if Todd was competing with them.

If this were to occur, it’ll shake to toy industry to its roots. Well, action figures anyway.

We can only hope. Hasbro would probably tell us that they don't compete with Mattel (or McFarlane) because they can't sell you a Spider-Man or Hulk. On the other hand, if Mattel comes out with a banger of a line at a better price would anyone be shocked if a sizable portion of the Legends fanbase took a look at their collection and concluded, "I think I have enough Marvel, maybe it's time to focus on DC?"

Yup thought about that this morning. I already picked up the Flash because I'm a sucker for the speedster. Really nice figure for less than half of what Hasbro is charging for Doc Sampson. Even though it's supposedly a kids line, the quality is arguably collector quality. Went to Target this morning and all of the DC wave 1 figures were gone. Might be time to say bye bye to Hasbro and Chris Cock's bullpucky.

Obviously no promises or guarantees of pricing six months out, just an observation of what you can potentially get in the collector line with an eleven dollar up charge. A $24.99 retail price should at the very least add the ab crunch, rocker ankles and biceps swivels. 2-4 extra hands and maybe a head. Double elbows would be nice, but unnecessary and maybe not possible with elbow swivels. Which in my view, are perfectly fine.
