ML Preorder/Order Schedule: Jan 11 - Secret Wars wave 2!

I always ask... how do you imagine Armor being done. I get the want, but I can't wrap my brain around how they execute a playable figure that appropriately represents her power set.

Just a girl in an X-Men training outfit? That would be easy, but probably unstaisfying for most. It could include static snap-on pink armor, I guess.

A baf sized pink translucent tank of a figure with a figure housed in the torso?

There is simply no way to accurately translate her powered up look in a functional action figure.

Oh. This convo again.

There are ways, and Hasbro has an entire engineering team to make work the versions we've all speculated on how to build. There is simply no way there is no way.

I'd love to see examples of other figures that have been made that have pulled off a similar thing. There must be some anime or something that has a similar energy shell type character.

I don't have any affinity for the character, but somebody should specifically ask the ML boys A.) Have you guys explored engineering options to produce an Armor figure with translucent pink shell? And B.) If so, were you met with success, or is it a lost cause?
Personally, I'm with PantherCult; I can't imagine it could be done without sacrificing all playability/articulation.

You say this, but show me some evidence of how it works...

I'm going to keep having this conversation every time people say it is their top want in Legends. Not because I don't want it - I very much do. But because I feel like any attempt Hasbro makes will be derided as a cheap cop out or half measure.

Its not the same as Jack of Hearts - whichbis just expensive for lots of paint hits... or Stingray which is just wing/cape engineering. This is another level of complex engineering I don't think is possible

I'm not an engineer, and my technical drawing skills haven't proved up to the task of reproducing what's in my head for this, but I can 100% envision in my head what this would look like and how it would work. I will try my best to explain it, but, again, not an engineer.

1) Translucent pink plastic, obviously.
2) Figure snaps in at each ankle, each wrist, and at the waist, probably all from behind, with simple C-clasps (also translucent pink).
3) Elbows, knees, ankles, and other major articulated joints would be achieved with "buttons" or "snaps" for lack of a better term, two for each joint, on the outside of the exoskeleton, with overlapping plastic to cover the seams when bent.

That would all lead to the figure inside being able to articulate as the exoskeleton was articulated. Would it have incredible range of motion? No, probably not. Would the joints be visible? Yes, in the same way that Iceman's joints are always visible. That's the burden of translucent plastic. Her armour is usually depicted as relatively layered, though, and I honestly doubt it would break things up in too unnatural a way. And at the end of the day, it would pull off an articulated girl inside an articulated exoskeleton sufficiently, and look totally badass in many poses.

Honestly, the bigger problem with Armor is that making each BAF piece both a typical figure's limb AND the equivalent exoskeleton part would probably get very expensive, very quickly. I feel like it's more likely that just the exoskeleton would be the BAF, and the figure would be just one of the assorted figures in the wave, which does make this suggestion less likely to satisfy Dwight's clue. But, she's definitely BAF territory in terms of sizing, and definitely finishes a team, so I'm holding out hope.

I'd prefer a BAF Armor that has her sculpted into translucent armor and a regular powered down version which would essentially be the new Kitty + sleeveless arms + new head.

I also loved how this figure was done even though the armor was kinda flimsy. I'd go for something like that, easily.

It's not like getting a powered down Armor would be all that much of an exception. There are a ton of Legends figures where their power sets aren't really evident in the figure. I mean look at the Absorbing Man that was just revealed as an example. You could argue that there are just as many figures where no power set is evident as where it is. For someone who didn't know Marvel they could look at our collections and never have any idea what powers most of the characters have. Is that boring? Of course it is, but it doesn't keep those figures from getting made either.

It also might not be anybody's preference but I've seen plenty of Armor in action where she is her normal size with just a thinner pink shell basically. They could do something like that loses very little articulation. Now there are just as many (and more fun) examples where she's huge and living basically in the chest of the structure, but that's less realistic to me as a legitimate affordable option for this character. There's also the mid range where her hands and feet end at the elbows and knees (and her head in the upper chest) that would allow for plenty of articulation at just the deluxe or super deluxe level of a figure.

My point is that I believe that it's 100% doable. All you have to do is peruse this page of images to see numerous examples of how it "could" work:

I would be open to the former idea, but I feel like she would lose a lot fully encased in the armour. I suppose it's possible that her armour encases her in "solid" energy, but it certainly looks like it's a thin exoskeleton with a lot of space between her and its walls, so--regardless of how it actually works in the comics--it would probably be better represented visually that way. I worry that solid plastic between her and the outside of the armour, no matter how translucent, will obscure the interior figure much more than we'd want. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you mean, but any of the alternatives I can imagine that render her permanently sculpted in would probably encounter other visual issues. Anyway, open to it. It's not like there'd be any real compelling need for the armour by itself.

Is the armour removable on that Green Lantern figure? I think if the pieces were just connected by parallel hinging buttons, rather than being exposed, that would be very similar to what I had in mind.
