ML Mini Comic wave

Does anyone know of any wired wings being sold for Banshee anywhere? He definitely needs an upgrade in that department.

I may see if I can transplant the old Hasbro ML wave 1 Banshee's cloth wings. I haven't really dug too deeply into seeing if it would work or not. These new wings wouldn't even be so bad if they had just printed on both sides of them.

Yeah I have to echo the “A for effort” status of Ultimate Iron Man, regardless of what one thinks of the design or the source material. ROM is a truly great figure and mooooostly original/non-reusable (although not all) and Miles is an all-new “blank teen body” (that they will surely reuse a fair bit), but UIM is the only all-new, totally-dedicated-parts sculpt in the wave and definitely got the “Cadillac” treatment, much like the hexagon armor in the Iron Man retro wave. They went all-out.

Had a chance to open these tonight.

  • Definitely wish Banshee was on a leaner body, but as a reprint from the blue and gold and him being one of my favorite characters... I'm happy. Hilarious that they shipped him with a gun hand though. I know it's to give options to hold the mini comic, but Banshee being strapped cracks me up.
didn't Banshee work with Interpol as an agent before he was a superhero? I remember this from Generation X comics. Maybe he used a gun back in the day!
  • Is there a previous release of this Miles? I don't think I have him on this buck. I really like it! It's a bit delicate and the hips are odd, but he can get into some crazy poses. Weird hand selection for him, too. Unmasked head looks too mature for the buck.
Exactly! Everyone is noting the lack of both fists (which is a legit complaint) and the weird hips (fine to my eyes), but the unmasked portrait is *way* too mature for this buck. Like Luke Perry as a Beverly Hills high schooler too old. Resembles one of those Renaissance era paintings where children are just painted as small adults with tiny heads and fifty year old faces.

Y'know the funny thing - if this Miles head were on a grown Miles buck I'd like the sculpt because it's new and detailed. Maybe I should try it on the Playstation Miles buck.

Totally putting a pistol in Banshee's hand and having him be AGENT CASSIDY!

Can anyone give me an idea about what's cool about Rom? I saw that comic get released on the stands, but nothing about it appealed to me.

So I can't speak for anyone else but I found ROM with issues 17-18 when the X-Men showed up. I enjoyed it and kept picking it up... Power Man and Iron Fist in issue 23, Nova in 24, Galactus and Terrax in 26 and 27.
Then in issue 31 (and 32) the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants featuring the second appearance of Rogue. Also ROM 39 with Shang Chi was the first comic I ever got signed by comics pros - I got that one signed by Mantlo, Buscema, Akin and Garvey all appearing at my local comic shop.

For that reason ROM has always held a special place for me and this figure has been something I have wanted for ages.

This is not me trying to poop on Rom; it's me trying to figure out from the outside what might be cool about the character or fictional universe that I missed out on by not trying it.
Agree with everything everybody else said. Additionally, the series was chock-full of guest stars from every corner of the Marvel Universe including: Shang-Chi, Sub-mariner, Torpedo (a regular in the series), the Champions of Xandar, Living Tribunal and Dr. Strange, Contest of Champions international heroes like Blitzkrieger, Shamrock, etc...

I don't know why but I didn't see this thread listed last night posting. I grabbed the mini comic book wave in stock between Amazon and GameStop. GameStop has shipped Rom, Daken, Banshee and Adam Warlock and Ultimate Iron Man shipped from Amazon. I don't know why Miles hasn't shipped yet from Amazon.

Isn't this a Fan Channel only wave? I've seen posts on a few Facebook groups I follow with the wave showing up at Target and Wally.

Those were undersized for that tiny body so I think they’d look pretty small on this one. It might still be an improvement.

This wave probably didn’t have the most exciting lineup but Ultimate Iron Man, Daken, Banshee, and Warlock had pretty outdated figures before so I’m glad for the new ones. Those were all 2006-2012. Miles wasn’t as huge an upgrade but he’ll definitely replace the Space Venom one (maybe with a head swap). ROM’s a solid toy and great for the cosmic shelf. It’s sort of a rarity when every single figure in a wave makes it into my display right away.

I had the same experience with the Strange Tales wave that was advertised as fan channel only but I found it at two Walmarts. The funny thing is I never saw any indication that anyone else found it at Walmart and keep convincing myself I was crazy but I took pictures of them on the pegs at the second one.

What's with Hasbro pulling a McFarlane Toys and giving figures the needless trigger finger hands lately? I found safari Professor X yesterday and he comes with a pair of them.

That along with the two fingers "touching my head to activate my mental powers" OR "silently motioning my soldiers to move forward" OR "Captain Picard 'engage'" hand seem to be popping up more and more.

Don't worry - I saw the Blackheart wave at Walmart, too. I've found listings for a few of this wave at Walmart.com. Which is great!

Got to My set today. Ultimate characters went to my kids, 3 filled out teams on my display and tried to explain to my wife how they couldn’t make a Rom figure for decades and met with the obligatory “oh really?”
The mini comics remind me of the time DCUC included those round pins for a wave or 2.
