Mezco 1:12 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Listings are up in the usual places. The set is $350 which is a decent price for a Mezco release, but it's also pretty bare bones compared with some other sets they've done. It looks like they're all on the same body so they're all the same height. Something looks off with the proportions and I don't think I like them which is good since it saves me $350 and then some.

The heads look LARGE on those bodies. They look proportionally more like the Next Mutation versions than the 1990 versions. ALL the images look too Photoshopped, so it's hard to gauge the actual looks and size of the figures.

Thankfully I can skip these. They don't look better than NECA's, so I feel good being able to skip them.

Movable eyes is fun! I agree though, the proportions do seem a bit off, like the heads are too big? Maybe to accommodate that eyes action feature. I'd really want to see them next to other 6" figures to be sure they scale correctly. 87.50 per figure is a lot to stomach, even if it is less expensive than a typical single One12 figure.

That's my guess, too. I only have one Mezco with movable eyes (89 Batman), but that particular head is also a touch larger than the ones with non-movable eyes. Throws things off quite a bit.

I'm happy to pass on these. NECA's are still perfect from a design and sculpt perspective.

I wish I hadn't missed out on the Walmart NECA reissues, I still don't have a set in my collection. Kind of slept on the movie line, but now it's one of the last to grab.

At SDCC, the Mezco's were displayed right across from NECA's and TBH, in person, NECA's just looked a lot better. I'm an articulation guy, and I tend to dislike when companies use the excuse of "how much articulation does -blank- character really need?" because my answer is always "as much as possible and more if your figure is very expensive." In this case, though, I favor the aesthetic and accessory load out you get with the Walmart NECA's, at half the price. If only they'd do another drop.

I’m a 1/10 collector, even if these pose a little better I already have better looking movie Turts in my preferred scale… but really looking forward to regretting the decision to pass on these when I see all the cool toy photography they can be used in (lot of other movie figures in 1/12 scale! Oh the possibilities!!! Excited to see what everyone comes up with!)

They seem to rely too much on renders and whoever is doing them isn't always great. With these images, you can kind of tell they're swapping in head images for each turtle. Movable eyes are also neat, but not if it means having a switch on the back of the head. The Batman 89 head is okay in this regard, though I never display that head. NECA's movable eyes on their Gremlins figures are terrible. I also really dislike the thigh cut they're going with for these. These are designs that call for the more restrictive, but far more aesthetically intrusive, cup and swivel up on the thigh ball.

I will also say: Mezco's figures tend to look vastly superior in hand than the solicitations. They have the shittiest photographer.

Unless it's d_amazing doing some of the Rumble Society pics, they're promo/solicit shots are ALWAYS so heavily edited it's hard to know what the final figure will look like and what it can REALLY do.

The moveable eyes making the head bigger is lazy if true, because I have a number of import figures that have MUCH smaller heads with moveable eyes that work great. They could do what NECA does with the swappable lower faces and give access to the eyes that way, AND maintain a better sized head.

Looking at the images of each turtle and the load outs, I'm not really feeling the expressions either. They all seem a little off. The smiling open mouth Donnie one seems like it needs a small glimpse of a human face in there, it's so odd.

If Donnie’s truly movie accurate he should have a shouting head with a second pair of movable eyes inside his open mouth
heh............. <points up>

Had the same thought a few hours before you. 😁
