McFarlane Spawn

I really am enjoying the new Spawn. I’m surprised how hard it is hitting the nostalgia feels: Spawn wave one was a huge deal for me at the time, and this figure truly feels like that, but with way more articulation and detail. Can’t put him down, really.

Went out this morning to hit a few stores including a couple Walmarts to see if I could snag a Spawn for $50, but good thing I didn't find anything because I checked my email and see I got a shipping notification from GameStop this morning.

I don't know what that cape is made from, but with no wire in the 'horns' of the cape, I'm going to go ahead and guarantee that it becomes a drooping mess within 2 years or so.

I have a replacement cape, but my overall enthusiasm is dampened solely off price point.
Agreed. It's a very nice Spawn figure, but I'm not sure there's anything here that takes versions we got just a couple of years ago at $20 to a point that it's now worth paying for $60 for. With that being said I have one en route from Gamestop that should arrive in a couple of days. Sigh.

Still holding my PO, for the nostalgia, but in a retroactive disappointment, I had missed the other heads and alt boot from the PowerPoint reveal.

Given that one has a card, surely that was a different SKU still coming.

Yeah, I'm not happy with the price, but this WILL be the last Spawn I get, whether I replace the cape or not.

The only other "founders" figure I'm potentially interested in is Savage Dragon, and since we'll never get the rest of the Wildcats, I'm not going to start with Spartan.

Yes.

He does an excellent job of making me *not* want to buy his stuff by throwing his “personality” into the fray. I aggressively do not want to hear from Todd, like ever. His “hype” makes me throw up in my mouth.

Why not just let the work speak for itself? He gets in his own way constantly.
He definitely loves the sound of his own voice.
Todd does not give me the same read as Vala at all.

I understand how he comes across.

But to me he comes from a place of authentic enthusiasm.

Vala comes from a place of insecurity and little man syndrome looking for validation by pulling others down.
The one time I ever met Todd, he DEFINITELY gave me the same vibes as Vala.
Todd displays narcissistic behavior, to be sure, and his self-aggrandizement is quite odious to me.

That said: I’ve never seen him be a hateful, petty, bullying little shit like Vala.
My best friend and I met Todd at a convention in the early 90s (Spawn #4 had just hit shelves). He was not only rude to us, but to every single person in line. I've heard people say their experiences with him have been positive, but my one encounter with him he was a narcissistic bully who clearly thought he was superior to everyone in the room. I've bought many of his toys over the years, and I DO have a nostalgic thing for Spawn, but I'll never forget what a total chode he was that day. To this day, when something goes wrong, my buddy and I will say "fucking Todd" as our expletive, as we decided he was such a jackass that he deserves the blame for completely unrelated things. Car won't start? "Fucking Todd". Had a bad day at work? "Fucking Todd". They screwed up your order at Jack In The Box? "Fucking Todd".

It's funny because an artist friend of mine met Todd just out in the world once and it was like.. the highlight of his entire life. He described Todd as friendly, warm, super kind and insanely enthusiastic about art - to the point where Todd was showing him techniques and stuff on his drawing pad in the random restaurant where this took place.

Maybe Todd just hates professional settings like conventions and shit? If he's autistic or autistic-adjacent, that would explain a lot, including him being a dick in those types of settings but friendly in more one-on-one spaces?
