McFarlane DC Multiverse

It wouldn't shock me if Absolute is being saved for Mattel's entrance back into the line. I feel like Metal was held back for Todd when he took over. It was just too weird at the time that neither Mattel or DC Collectibles were touching it. Now it can take a year for product to be produced once greenlit, but I do believe that there's smoke to the fire on the Mattel/Absolute rumor. The risk is that it's stale by then. I think that the only Absolute title that is still doing well is Batman, but I haven't actually read any of them personally. I know that DC re-released Absolute Batman #1 this week for $2.99 for Batman Day ypfsu, which is half of the original cover price. I only know this because I bought it from my local comic book store because they had a stack of hundreds to celebrate Batman Day.

Maybe so. I prefer to think that some negotiations are ongoing. Guess we have to wait it out.

Anybody see the pop-up promotion on MTS with Y1 Batman, Gordon, and a copy of the Batman Y1 graphic novel? By the time I saw the email, they were sold out. Batman Day promotion I assume.

Well, when do you guys think Mattel will reveal their new figures? If Todd has the license until the end of this year (afaik), Mattel could be revealing these soon. Wasn't there a Toy Fair in October?

Not soon. Todd waited until January 1st 2020 to show anything. And we don’t officially know when Mattel will actually take over the license. Seems like it’s up in the air. I’ve heard 1/1/26, 4/1/26, and 7/1/26 as start dates. 7/1/26 seems most likely as Todd is doing the Supergirl movie figures. The movie is out in June. Figures probably out in April or May. SDCC 2026 will be interesting.

I’ve also heard that Mattel and Spin Masters will actually share the master license for six months until 12/31/26. Overlapping a bit. Maybe Todd gets to overlap for six months too while he draws down his inventory.

And maybe, just maybe, Todd gets to keep a small piece of the license for adult collectors. Moving to the collectables aisle and printing “Not a Toy” on packaging may be an effort to get ahead of this. I’m not discounting the presence of DCD in the mix.

I’m not a Pollyanna, but I’ve quite enjoyed Todd’s foray into DC and am not quite there yet on giving up. And I promise I won’t become a Snyder-brownie when the end inevitably comes. But for now, I’m keeping hope alive.

Good point on the Absolute stuff- I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but everything about it just screams McFarlane. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear he came up with some of the designs; I'm sure there's some inspiration in there. It feels like he'd have jumped on them by now, but maybe he can't. Or, more likely, knowing that the license will be wrapping up soon, he's just narrowing his focus so as to be able to get out the things he really wants to before the line ends.

Which is why the Harley Kickstarter thing surprises me a bit. Assuming it takes, say, even 6 or so months to actually produce a figure, that would theoretically take him right up to the deadline, assuming that May/June date is correct. Unless the figures are already in production somehow, but then why have a Kickstarter? It also feels like a bit of a lackluster final Kickstarter (assuming it is the final one, but I assume he'd want to give it as much attention as possible and not juggle multiples). As nice as it'll be to have SS Harley, I definitely think something a bit more interesting could've been done- maybe the missing live action villains or something? Next few months will be quite interesting as more and more becomes clear.

Agreed. It’s not just the line ending, it’s how up in the air everything seems to be. And not just Todd’s end of things.

Wonder Woman/Godzilla goes up for preorder on 9/25/25. One down, one to go for that date. Doom on 9/23/25. The next Digital wave is 9/30/25 featuring Zero Hour Superman and Perez/Crisis Joker.

Finally! Wonder how much she's gonna cost. I also wonder: who's the bigger get in that pack - Diana or Godzilla? Ah well, we'll see if I can even buy it to begin with.

I've never seen SS (don't want any of Leto as that character) but I enjoyed Harley in BoP and TSS, so I may get this KS just to put the Harley head on the gold jumpsuit body. IF they can swap - this idea did not go well between the red dress Harley and jumpsuit Harley when I tried.

Saw Mr. Bones at EB.

Did not realize they started putting EBX and the maple leaf on our exclusive packaging.

But not all of them.

Time to bring back 00s variant aftermarket!

Batman is okay. But Superman and WW are solid reinventions. Recommend all three when you can.

Yeah, the Absolutes are a fun read. Wonder Woman especially. Batman is great. Superman leans a little too heavily on more abstract science fiction stuff than most casual comics readers are used to. It’s good, but hard sci-fi can be off putting. Flash and Green Lantern have good concepts, but not a lot of story so far. They seem to be going in circles for some reason. Martian Manhunter reads like something Morrison, Milligan, or Gaiman wrote back in the day before they all became corporatized. Sounds like some fun stuff coming up too like Absolutel Green Arrow.

Yeah, it's all solid

Id put Batman third among the big three but by micrometers under Superman.

For me they played a little too loose with a neat concept. He's not rich now. But he still has lairs and a car and toys.

I guess the initial pitch had me hoping for a more Man Without Fear/Year One tier Bat.

But it's fun.

WW is outstanding. Best thing DC is putting out for me.

I do think Todd should take his swing at the Absolutes if at all possible. They would’ve been in the works since before the Mattel deal came about. All of these characters, including space-monkey Grodd, are all well within Todd’s scope of abilities.

It's simply ludicrous if he does not, at least give us the Batman and Wonder Woman. They are pure McFarlane.

I always felt Snyder wanted to just do Spawn. Between absolute and the metal stories, everything he does is just steeped in '90s Spawn. And that's not a knock. I'm here for it.
