McFarlane DC Multiverse

That's riiiiight. Don't know if I ever saw that Catwoman in stores, so I forgot about it, but I did have both Penguins- they made one in the last wave or two of the Multiverse rebrand way back when.

Don't know if anyone has seen photos yet- they seem to conveniently obscure the left hand in every photo I've seen. In the Duck version, I saw one photo where it almost looks like his right hand has fingers too. At this point, I'm expecting a normal hand that maybe wasn't pressed as hard into the mold so it doesn't have quite as visible fingers. Anything beyond that will surprise me.
I thought I saw that right hand, too. It looked like 5 sculpted fingers, but held in the shape of a flipper. It was weird lol

The promo pics of the penguin commandos have a pic of Duck Penguin modeling the coat. The right hand is in full view, flipper looks fine, the left hand is obscured yet again.

Also, I'm looking at the commando 3 pack more closely now that I actually have time, and is that some kind of cardboard Penguin cut out that the coat is on in the package? If so, I might actually keep that. If will power holds and I don't get the Duck, I don't know that I'll ever have a use for it.

Would appear so. Saw a few people think that meant that the PCs were coming with a Penguin. Obvious for those of us who've been in the know, but with as oddly handled as the drop was, if you only saw a picture of the box, I can see how you'd think so.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mattel keeps their mainline more modern. I don't know which universe-altering storyline the DC Universe is currently in - Rebirth? Start there, supplement with classic looks as it goes/as needed.

LOL, that's cute. I think the last time any company gave you a multi pack for the same price as a single was the POTF 2 line with two Ewoks for the price of one. Those days are gone forever.

Now that I think about it, how great would it have been if those three penguins were actually parted out between the other individual releases in place of a BAF part? The lack of accessories would be justifiable and I'd be feeling 100% better about my purchase.

I’m sticking with my guess that Mattel will kick off their line with Absolute versions of the Trinity. My hunch is that Todd is not being allowed to make those.

It is madness to have no Absolute representation.

And wild for Todd to not be in on it. Joker was revealed today. He's basically Violator. It must be eating him alive not tapping any of these designs.

It's called All-In.

Soon it will be I Fold.

I have no dog in the race after this, honestly. Mattel can go any direction it chooses and I'll be fine. Between DCUC, McFarlane, and a few choice high end Mafex/Mezco figures, I have the core "classic" Justice League, my 90s DC favorites, and now Batman Returns (my favorite Batman movie) all in action figure form. I don't want much else in terms of DC figures.

I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but I could swear that I read somewhere that that was the original plan. Then apparently they wanted to make it so that people could get them even if they didn't get the whole wave. Which, ironically, didn't quite pan out. But I guess it's the thought that counts.

The Duck is still sitting there.....the one thing (besides Max) that I didn't scoop up in all the madness. I'm clinging to my "less is more" mentality and telling myself I don't need it. We'll see if that willpower holds.
The Duck is sold out. Every box picture / promo picture seems to obscure the hand you're wondering about. I'd just assume the worst is the most likely outcome. He may not even have identifiable fingers though, it may just be like a Lego person C-grip.

I also find it odd that McFarlaneToyStore is sending out emails promoting their Batman Returns line, which is sold out across the board on their site. Equally as odd, these sold out $35 figures are listed as $48 now despite being completely unable to be purchased.

That's odd. They're still showing up as 35 for me. You're looking on the MTS store?

But in general, yeah- I know those promotional emails are scheduled in advance most of the time, so there's no way to know how available the thing will be come release, but it always seems to happen, and always makes me chuckle and shake my head.

I'm pretty sure that was the plan too. However, I think any change to the plan came from the standpoint of, "How can we get more money out of this?" and not "What will be better for the customer?"

I’m very happy I didn’t have to participate today. Sounds awful.

I usually buy from Todd if possible. I’ve got all my info stored at the site. I got the five I wanted from yesterday and the only thing that slowed me down was messing up my $20.00 coupon code which I mis-entered the first time. Probably should’ve just done the bundle and been done with it.

As for Mattel, we’ve been cautioned to not dismiss them. They are supposed to have had an amazing pitch for DC. But I also know what they did for nearly 20 years. They cut corners when their projections didn’t pan out. Instead of cutting margins, they cut costs. To our ultimate detriment. No appreciable improvements were made until they were on the way out. The then president of Mattel paid himself a ridiculous bonus. They lost a lot of market share to Hasbro. And it wasn’t just from DC.

Until I’m proven wrong, until they show me different, my assumption is for a line of soulless, smooth, cookie cutter figures built around the Justice League. Iconic if not classic designs and an almost complete mitigation of risk. We won’t be getting Ragman or Darkstar anytime soon.

But speculation is academic until we see their first releases. Unfortunately, I’m not optimistic. I’ve grown quite fond of Todd’s DC product if not the delivery system. So I’ll miss it. At my age and with recent life changes and more probably coming, I’m not starting over. The best I can likely hope for is Mattel maintaining the 7” scale and me supplementing my current collection with deep cuts and WTF’s.

Still holding out for an 11th hour deal involving DCD and the Wal-Mart/Target aisle.
