McFarlane DC Multiverse

I got my notice from MTS that Obsidian and Mr. Bones shipped!

In fairness to Todd, he might have shied away from the spectrum of Lanterns due to how those seemed to have sold for both Mattel and DC Direct / DC Collectibles. Those were easy to find cheap for a very long time. I enjoyed them all and still have them all, but they were either over-produced or not as in demand as other waves.
I don't think he noticed or cared. His mindset is "I can do it better".

Also got shipping notification for Bones and Obsidian. Can’t wait.

Classic Deathstroke and Mirror Master 2 are still awaiting fulfillment.

My main objection to the Green Lantern Corps is that ACAB includes space-cops.
😁
I like the crazy aliens though and I like having a Lantern in the Justice League. Hal’s my least-favorite Earth Lantern though: “arrogant, thrill-seeking womanizer” would be one of my least-favorite character archetypes. At least Guy’s loathsome macho swagger is framed as bad behavior. Paradoxically, I buy all Hal’s action figures, though: he’s a classic.

I’m sure WB/DC is still MASSIVELY gunshy about GL merch though, after how hard the film and the merch tanked back in the day.
Would that extend to the Blue Lanterns, though? Their whole thing is hope and peace. Though they do amplify the powers of Green Lanterns, so are they technically enabling the bad space-cops?

I mean . . . Rainbow Lanterns is, like . . . oh man I read those comics when they came out and I *still* don’t know how I feel.

I *do* know that I want a classic Star Sapphire and not what Carol was wearing during all that Rainbow Lantern stuff. That outfit looked like it . . . chafed.
😬

I dug the idea of the emotional spectrum when it came out. The Black Lanterns/zombies I didn't care for (horror is not my genre). When we got to deputy lanterns the taffy was being pulled pretty far.

I’ve had that particular run of Green Lantern by Geoff Johns and the accompanying run by Pete Tomasi recommended to me multiple times by friends and acquaintances over the years. Always passed. And I’m a huge fan of Johns.

The emotional spectrum sounded stupid. The Deputy Lanterns sounded really stupid. The Zombie Lanterns sounded really, really stupid. And I understand that a lot of people love that stuff. Which is perfectly fine. Like what you like. I’m not gonna disparage anyone for their opinions or taste in comics. It’s just not for me.

First, there was one army, now there are at least three. Plus Manhunters and Darkstars. And I thought they were derivative to begin with. And don’t get me started on the Guardians themselves. If they’re so smart, why are they so bad at this? How did they get this authority in the first place? Just not my jam.

Pursuant to all that, I remember years ago SDcomics posted a lengthy story about how well DCD was doing at that time. So much so that they began to “wag the dog”. A lot of those highly derivative multi colored Lanterns were created in the comics specifically to be made into action figures. Geoff Johns didn’t care. My understanding is that he’s also an action figure collector like us. DC didn’t care because they don’t have to pay royalties on characters that are not original. Lots of people were buying up those DCD figures back then. Right at about the time Mattel got the full license.

I was not among them.

I was never quite sold on rainbow Lanterns either. It got too convoluted. And didn't certain colors cancel out the powers of other colors? I could never keep that straight.

I don't get why every alien race gets one representative on the GL Corp, but Earth has a half dozen.

I'm not a huge Hal fan either. Kyle is my guy. I thought disgracing Hal, turning him bad, wiping out the Corp, and having young, untested Kyle being the lone holder of the GL ring was a pretty neat idea. But like everything else, they had to undo that. Now Kyle isn't even on the back burner, he's off the stove in the top cupboard.

The last time I read GL was Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp's run. Morrison was on some heavy, heavy acid judging by those storylines, but Sharp's art was just incredible. He drew one alien GL whose head was an erupting volcano. That was pretty wild.

Yeah, I dig the Morrison stuff too. Supposedly, he’s not done heavy drugs in years.

The current Jeremy Adams run on Green Lantern is very good. Again, not a GL guy, but it’s been fun.

Back to the emotional spectrum. I never got how will power is an emotion. Courage is an emotion, much like fear, or hatred. Will power activates the weapon (ring) powered by the emotion.

Just a note: Grant Morrison goes by “they/them” these days. 💜

And hehehe yeah apparently they don’t need thee drugs anymore: the wild stuff comes out extempore, from their mother wit, to paraphrase Shakespeare. Still haven’t read their Lantern run, though, unfortunately. One day though. Grant wrote my favorite Justice League run, my favorite X-Men run, and my favorite Batman one-shot of all time, so I’m pretty much all-in on their output. Also I’m definitely into their chaos-magic vibe,

I believe the idea is that Willpower is the ability to control your emotions, with Green being the center point of ROYGBIV. Like most things in comics it works best if you don't think too hard about it.

Oh god, the last thing we need is Hal yelling “I CAN CONTROL MY EMOTIONS!”
🤣
Shut the fuck up, Hal. And maybe go to counseling. Just, uh, be careful about disclosing about Arisia stuff: depending on Hypertime or the Multiversal Orrery or whatever we are measuring continuity-time by, the statute of limitations may not be up on that one and the therapist is gonna be a mandated reporter, so . . .
😬
