McFarlane DC Multiverse

I quit watching his channel a while back. I used to really enjoy his reviews, even if his delivery is a bit dry, but I did like how he did his comparisons and what-not. I think, for me, I got tired of his whole "if you think this is better than that, then you're delusional" thing. Dude, not everyone likes the same stuff you do, and that is okay! Doesn't make them "delusional".
People think that of me when ever I say I like a Toybiz Marvel Legend over a Hasbro.

I'll watch dhunter's videos on occasion. His comparisons are helpful.... to a point. I get that when he compares stuff to a bag of flower or whatnot, that's just his sense of humor, but when he does the wide shot of three neca street dioramas filled with figures and none are the one that's being reviewed, now you're just showing off, buddy. :)
I traded him a bloody mouth King Shark variant a few years ago, he was a good guy to deal with.

I think it was his old collection thread or just posts in the DC photo thread on Fwoosh, but seeing seemingly miles of figures, dioramas and vehicles just laying all over the floors gave me chills.

Yeah, exactly. People have different tastes, and that's okay. I totally get some aspects of ToyBiz ML would be more appealing than the current Hasbro offerings (especially when it comes to paint deco). I get that he prefers the aesthetic of Todd's stuff over the DCUC offerings, but telling people they are "delusional" if they don't agree with him rubs me the wrong way. I don't think people who prefer McF DC Multiverse are "delusional", they just like some of the things that bug me about the line. I don't like Todd's overly textured costumes, the odd long legs, the weird reuse choices, or the bizarre way there seem to be three different scales in the same line. Some folks view those as good things...that's their opinion, and it's okay to disagree. I don't think either person is out of touch with reality because they have different things they prefer in their collections of little plastic people.

For sure. There are many times he seems to be acting like he is somehow a superior collector because he has every figure in the line...in doubles. I don't get impressed by those shots...to me it seems like a waste of a considerable amount of money, but to each his own. If it makes you happy, then cool, but don't expect me to fawn over a collection like that.

I'm glad to hear that. I don't hate the guy at all...I used to watch most of his reviews, but I just got tired of some of the things he did that came off as arrogant. That may not be his intention at all, but it sure reads that way.

My only direct interaction with him was a few years ago on Fwoosh. Can’t exactly remember what was being discussed, but he told me I sounded like a crazy person. My response was “says the guy who is compelled to buy three of everything”. Someone then wrote something to the effect of “oh snap”. Then the mods stepped in. It’s been a while because I’ve not been able to log onto the Fwoosh for a couple of years at least. We all have a degree of OCD. Comes with being a collector. I simply cannot imagine that level of it. Even without the obvious financial factors.

What I do know is that I didn’t go after him in any way. Until he inferred I was mentally unwell.

I’d like to make you feel better on this score:

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves intrusive thoughts (thoughts that pop into your head with no ability to “turn them off”) that basically scream at you that something very bad is going to happen unless you perform/repeat an action. Obviously way more complicated than that, but just having a strong desire to own/do something is not OCD, it’s just a strong desire to own/do something. There’s really no reason to pathologize collecting: some possibly negative things can come from collecting, but just collecting is not a mental illness AT ALL.

Don’t know much about this dhunter guy other than seeing his posts back on the fwoosh, but y’all know how I feel about displays of arrogance . . .

Can you tell that to my dad's side of the family, who seem to see collecting as a refusal to grow up. Don't get me wrong, I do refuse to grow up, but for entirely different reasons than collecting. 😇

OCD is, like you said Ace, a very complicated thing. I think, if anything that ol' dhunter does could be considered OCD, is maybe the need to have exactly 3 of everything. I can understand getting 2- 1 to rock, 1 to stock- but what's that 3rd one for? To sell one day? If so, at what point does "that day" come around? If nothing else, it definitely makes me feel better about my collecting; the few people who see my place always say "it's like a museum!", just because they're not used to seeing so many collectibles in one place. I think it's also a matter of living space- I live in a 1 bedroom apartment in NY that, while perhaps decently sized for NY, is pretty small in the grand scheme of things, so I really don't have thaaaat much stuff, it may seem like it just because it's all confined to a room or 2.

I dunno. I feel a bit bad commenting on the guy because if you were to take a magnifying glass to my life (hell, you probably don't even need one), you'd probably see a lot of weird stuff too. Don't get me wrong, faaaaar be it for me to judge dhunter or go diagnosing anyone with anything. That's beyond the pot calling the kettle black. I'm a strong, strong advocate for people doing what makes them happy, regardless of what others think of it. As long as all parties are happy, healthy, and stable, then far be it from me to judge! I've never personally seen the arrogance, so I can't say one way or the other, but that's the only place I'd have qualms with.

I love seeing not only what people collect, but how they collect. It's arguing semantics, really, but folks like dhunter strike me as a collector moreso than a curator. It's about getting all of the thing, versus the parts of the thing that appeal to you, if that makes sense. I'm forever grateful for the part of my brain that tells me "you don't need this thing" or "you don't care about this character, so put it back". I'm amazed that part still works after all these years!

One thing's for sure- whatever the man does for a living, can I get in? Is he rolling around in that OnlyFans money?

Bruh trust me: I have been there. There was a time in my ADULT life that my parents leaned hard hard HARD on “this is symptomatic of mental illness/refusal to grow up” to the point of ACTIVELY FORCING ME TO DEAL WITH IT IN A CLINICAL SETTING. With clinicians they chose, of course, who were aligned with their views. But these are the people who once sent me to therapy because they OPENED MY MAIL and LOOKED AT MY BANK STATEMENT and saw that I spent my tax return that year ($300) on a leather jacket.

Wooooo!! Shocking no one, I eventually went into the mental health field myself! And that’s why a lot of my clients love me because I frequently get to say “ha ha ha fuck what your parents think, do what the fuck you want and live your truth!”

I only comment on him or his collecting habits because he's made it a public part of his channel. In every video, he tells you how many copies he bought, which (in my opinion) makes it fair game. So I wouldn't feel bad about it, and I don't think anyone is legitimately attacking him here. Just commenting, some in jest and some in wonder.

For me, I tend to take a "whatever floats your proverbial boat" attitude. But, it's still humorous to poke a little fun at people and their habits and I just do my best to keep from being "mean" about it. I'm sure I have funny habits or tics or something that people think about when they watch my channel, it's all part of putting yourself out there. I don't understand dHunter's penchant for buying 3 of things, I don't even really get it for buying 2 (but I'm an open box guy, so that's probably why). I have no idea what he does for a living, and I don't want my house to be a maze of boxes to wade through to go from living room to kitchen...but if he's happy, I'm happy.

And I'm even happier if I get to poke a little fun, all in (hopefully) good humor. So don't feel bad, we all have to be able to laugh at ourselves and at each other. Crazy world, finding the fun, all that jazz.

This is how I felt about it. I interacted with him on the Fwoosh once, and he kind of implied I was less than intelligent for not agreeing with him that the McF Red Tornado was "far superior" than the DCUC version. I understood completely why her prefers the Multiverse version, but there are things I just like better about the DCUC, but he didn't seem to get that. At first, I took it as a good natured debate, and really didn't take it to heart. I still watched his YouTube channel, but he went on a rant one day about how people were "delusional" and "idiots" if they didn't see that the MacFarlane figures were "obviously superior". When I read the comments, and he basically treated anyone with a differing opinion as being intellectually challenged, I was just done with him.

For real! I need his kind of income, for sure!

The world would be a much better, healthier place if more people took this approach.

I have the same attitude of "whatever makes you happy". At the same time, when someone starts acting like they are somehow superior, then I tend to be less kind about it. If he has three of everything, and it makes him happy, cool. Acting like he is somehow better than other collectors because of it? Get the fuck outta here with that noise!

And, I will just say, I'm not so sure how happy it actually makes him. I've heard him complain about how terrible a figure is, and how pissed he is that it uses the same body as another figure he hates. I just have to ask, "then why did you buy three of it if you KNEW you were going to hate it"?

Reading this thread and seeing all of the posts about him being combative and quick to put people down is certainly disheartening...thinking on it, I'm not sure I've ever had a single interaction with him so I guess I didn't know he was like that. So yeah, if that's how he rolls with others, then criticism and pointing is not only fun but should be encouraged.

I have also seen him complain about reuse and how something is poor, and then go on to how he bought multiples, and wondered the same. Whatever compels him to buy literally everything, no matter the quality, is an insanely strong pull. With the information available to use prior to a figure releasing, it's pretty rare for me to get something in and not care for it. Typically know what I'm getting into beforehand. I hated the Cowboy Batman that came out earlier this year, I just couldn't imagine purchasing multiple of it because of some hidden need. I think I'd just start to hate myself, honestly.

It was funny explaining my thoughts and then be told that's not the norm. Like damn, how do they function If you don't have intrusive visuals and a voice making you triple, check your every move.

Batman Returns Penguins

Looks like the Penguin Commandos are up on WalMart through McFarlane for normal price. Snag 'em if you need 'em!

Max Shreck

Max is up too!
Dang, these are already gone. Thanks for the heads-up. Kinda want a penguin pack.

Feels a bit odd for Todd to make exclusives available at Walmart - he charges his ridiculous shipping fees and months-long delivery window where Walmart is free shipping and very fast delivery.

I got Rebirth Wonder Woman and Godzilla and I feel dirty paying $80 for basically a new head and skirt. The head is nice, but I'm really over this knock-kneed body with one of the most hideous thoracic cuts on any figure.
