McFarlane DC Multiverse

I agree. That's very weird. I've been doing business with them for like 20 years and have never had them do that on anything without sending an email explaining why (usually because they knew they weren't going to get any more stock) and certainly never on anything the same day as the pre-order. I'd reach out to them. It's possible that they just accepted too many pre-orders than what they expect to be able to fulfill, but even then I wouldn't think they'd cancel until they knew that for certain.
I did just find an e-mail. They said it sold out before I checked out. So, Scarecrow sold out quick. I think I was on at 12:02 and checked out at 12:03 or 12:04. But I usually am right on at noon when these things go up. Those extra minutes cost me.

I'm a cautionary tale everyone. Don't do important stuff when toys are up for pre order. Drop the important stuff, let the world burn, get fired, whatever, and get those toys immediately.

Also, RichardSimmonsRobot just informed me Scarecrow was still up on GameStop. So, I got a pre order in there. Thanks, RSR :)

Maybe bc of Todd's weird aversion to Harley?

Speaking of - I gave up yesterday and finally opened the original McF classic Harley and DAMN her head is even huger out of the box. That choice is so odd and so easy to re-release and... and...
Still have that Harley and it's one that my girls gravitate toward so I'm probably not going to get rid of it. I THINK it's supposed to be animated? So that's why the head is exaggerated? Even though it's Terry Dodson art on the trading card? Who really knows. Early wave one indication of the randomness and haphazardness that this line would showcase for the next six or so years. When I look at it as an animated release I am fine with it. I kind of like her facial expression.

Eh, you were cutting it close by the four minute mark. I know for a fact it was gone by 6 minutes but I am probably off on that. I was online AT the time it was up, ordered within seconds.

I am not usually free at 11am central time on Fridays but I found coverage for the couple of minutes it will take me. First hurdle cleared.

I was stupid and trying to consolidate orders on Amazon but Riddler took a long time to show up - and then Scarecrow and Batgirl were ripped from my cart right as he appeared. Ended up getting them at BestBuy - with a ship date two months earlier than Amazon (of course, we all know how that goes).

I feel like that new Joker with trenchcoat may be as close as this company is getting to the Nicholson Joker.

I am so glad I don't buy movie figures. I don't think I could do this again tomorrow.

When the toy company knows they have you over a barrel no matter what.

"Deluxe Edition", one accessory, $35.

Yep, the $35 price point is basically just going to be standard Todd-fare for the remainder of the line. He's going to try to cash in as much as he can for as long as he can.

On the McFarlane show they hinted at new licenses that are going to be announced next month. Nothing can replace this one for them, though. I sat and couldn't think of a single big license that Todd could likely get right now that would potentially move the needle. His Avatar, Dune, Anime, Walking Dead, Sports, Video Game and Movie Maniacs lines don't seem to have been at all successful. I'll be buying his Mortal Kombat Classics line, but he's had the MK license for quite some time now and obviously didn't consider it a priority until the DC license was lost. I buy his Spawn stuff, but it must not sell well or he'd do more of it. His old Image buddies don't seem to be pushing him to market their other comic figures. It will be interesting to see where he pivots. They may have to create a new interesting IP to keep market share like other smaller companies have done in recent years, but that would also likely require an improvement in quality.

I had forgot about this comic wave today but luckily I was able to preorder Batgirl, Riddler and Scarecrow on Game Stop. I received Obsidian and Mr. Bones today from Nerdzoic. I find it odd that McFarlane will not do a proper comic Harley. I'm not talking the animated show or the animated comic but a proper comic appearance.

Little analysis of the reveals:

Atom Smasher: #1 on my personal wish list. He’s obviously a repaint of the Black Adam movie figure, but I don’t care. Been a fan since he was Nuklon back in Infinity Inc. in the 80’s. Roy Thomas is the man.

Spectre: Great upgrade with the fabric cape. Gives me hope for an Hourman and Mr. Miracle do over before we close out.

Red Tornado: Bronze Age edition. Also a nice upgrade with the fabric cape. Easily repainted into the Silver Age JSA version which I’d initially heard we were getting. I expect a Platinum a la Dr. Fate.

Blackfire: Serious upgrade over the original. I like her quite a bit.

Purple Batgirl: Nice paint job, plastic cape, no thanks. Otherwise, why?

Zero Hour Superman: Finishes out the Reign of Superman wave. Hinted at a Platinum. Gotta be the Resurrection Suit.

Crisis Joker: Awesome looking. Can’t say I’m overly interested in spending money on him though.

Crowdfunded Harley: Can’t say I care.

No surprises here. I’d heard of all of these in one way or another except Harley. Seems like a stopgap until NYCC in 3 weeks.

There’s also a couple of mystery dates at EE. 2 unknown McFarlane items up for preorder on 9/25/25. ZH Superman and Crisis Joker are on sale 9/30/25.

2.5 JSA members. 2 females. 2 Batman related,1 Superman. Good potential for variants.

Also an aside, what’s with this Claudio guy? I kinda don’t wanna hear from him anymore if he is ignorant of the JSA. Why’s he working on the DC license?

Yeah. Honestly this wave could very well be the climax of the line as far as I'm concerned. I'm consoling myself knowing that I'm not going to be subjected to mercenary pricing for too much longer. Again, I like the way these look, I'm just disappointed by the price, the lack of accessories, the distribution.........the Toddness of the whole thing. But the alternative for Batman Returns figures is what? MAYBE Mafex or Mezco gets to them and they are spread out over the course of several years at $100+ each? I don't see many more outlets for these.

I'm going all in on the Batman Returns line. There wont be much left that Todd sells that I think I'll be into once DC is done at McFarlane. Anime/Sports/Random movie figures don't appeal to me much. I'm looking at MK Reptile and basically that and only that outside of DC stuff. That Catwoman is arguably one of the best looking figures Todd has made from the DC line, and the white stitching is supposedly sculpted too. Wish she had more hands, but I'm willing to bet there will be a battle damaged or unmasked Pfeifer Catwoman if not as a Red/Platinum, then later on before the last container ship sails. You only live once...unless you get thrown out of a window by your boss and have your wounds licked by stray alley cats.

I don't buy McFarlane figures as I usually don't like their style, but damn if these Batman Returns figures don't look amazing! I'd say damn near perfect if they were pinless.
