Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

Definitely strange...I guess it's more for folks who keep their figures in package. Doesn't tempt me in the slightest.

I picked up an extra Battle Cat today with the Target $10 off $40 sale, bringing him down to $33. Without the mask, he'll fit in really well with New Eternia stuff.

I would have been an easy sell for this set if it had anything interesting about it, like a wired cape for Skeletor or some effects pieces or something - but as-is I will probably have to pass.

Well, alright then.

I guess maybe it's for anyone who's held out on getting either figure yet, for whatever reason? Or maybe it's a way to get the more accurate Skeletor out there to fans who want him? Which I do; I've only ever seen Skeletor in person once, when I snagged him before, and it was the incorrect version. But not enough to buy a second, unchanged He-Man. Plus, I know it's a throwback, but I definitely prefer the first staff we got over the purple one here.

Hey, it's money saved!

Jumping in late here, but that 2 pack is odd for Creations since it's just 2 figures together that are pretty easily available individually at retail. Still, it's the two main characters in a 2 pack the very month the film came out. So, I get it.

I'd consider it just for the Skeletor, since I want that more teeth, brighter blue version. But, it's not like I HAVE to have that version. Especially since I already have 4 He-Mans lol. I have 2 of the extremely good Nicholas Galitzine likeness He-Mans, then 1 each of the other 2 face variants with different red harness cross.

So, paying $50 just for Skeletor, which by the way, I have 2 of as well, just not this version, and then a 5th He-Man sems dumber than what I've already done.

Hopefully I can just find a variant of this Skeletor single carded.

Still, while I don't need it and it seems odd, I appreciate it's existence. Great item for someone who doesn't have either, great gift, great collectible to keep MIB.

It's a winner, but just one I don't need because I basically have it.

My wife picked up Battle Cat for me today. She knows I've been eyeing this one a lot but hadn't brought myself to actually spend the 60 bucks. Especially knowing it'll probably be discounted sooner than later, as most toys seem to be these days.

It's genuinely impressive how much nicer this figure is than even the Masterverse one. I'd say, between the two, it's really no contest which is a better action figure. And I like the color on this one better. Articulation works better, proportions are nicer. Just a better figure overall. In fact, I think I prefer this one to the MOTUC cat, which was always my gold standard for BC. I wish they'd put the same level of painted detail on his armor as they did for other Chronicles figures. Seems like such a shame to have him almost 'toylike' compared to the other collector figures. And it's a really weird contrast with how much detail the base figure has.

The eyes are crazy-cool. I love that they articulated not just the jaw, but the upper teeth to set back so you can close the mouth properly. That's REALLY going above-and-beyond. I don't think anyone would have faulted them for not doing that. But it's fantastic.

Looks badass. Love it. He-Man looks awesome on BC. And goddamn if I wouldn't be tempted to get another to leave as Cringer if Mattel releases a movie Adam.

Yeah, this Battlecat might be one of my favorite figures this year, and I genuinely love the Masterverse 'cat. Chronicles is just that much of an upgrade. I hope we get a Panthor with this articulation too (haven't been able to see the film yet, assuming he's not in it, but I mean they've always just been the same mold painted/flocked differently...)

I would be very unsurprised if this mold makes it into some type of 'vintage' version of Chronicles, with a non-movie Battle Cat, and a Panthor.

and frankly, why wouldn't they be?

The only reason I could POSSIBLY think they would be worse than this is if they go in trying to emulate every itty bitty detail of Marvel Legends, down to the (very outdated) ab crunches. Which is a choice a dumb corporate guy could feasibly make.

But realistically, I just don't see any world where Chronicles wasn't developed to simultaneously serve as a sales pitch for DC, AND the next step for MotU. If DC's collector line comes out with the same general construction, I am 100% certain the generic base body photo they have on the "Deluxe Articulation" label was partly made to be used for a DC pitch.

I'll be thrilled if their DC figures are this good (and frankly, why wouldn't they be?)
bEcAuSe LiCeNsIng FeEs! I mentioned before that the one thing I'm worried about is that Mattel's DC will be to Marvel Legends what MOTU Chronicles is to GI Joe Classified. The property that they own outright is stellar and constantly gets all the bells and whistles, the other gets corner cutting and excuses for why they can't be better. But I'm not going to get ahead of myself, there is a lot of reason for optimism with regard to Mattel DC just based on this line.

I had to place an order pick up for Battle Cat just now because the $10 off sale ends tonight. I'll pick him up tomorrow.
