Mattel Jurassic Park Lines

The Scuto is so awesome, you see I got TWO, haha. My first one was actually in December from Amazon, and I liked him so much, I preordered the second off BBTS, so he came in a few months ago when they got him in. (Her? Are all the dinos still female? Lol)

My best friend even got one for use with his Black Series figures, because it looks like a cool alien, and actually fits really well in that collection, too.

Ordered a troodon for store pickup at the only Target I could, about 25 min drive from me. Picked it up and noticed in the parking lot that it was scotch taped closed. Plastic ties were intact so I opened it and found the right knee clearly broken and krazy glued in place. Walked back in and returned it, and drove another 25 min home.

Why do people do this? Do they imagine that Target would refuse the return if they stated honestly that they moved the joint upon opening it and it broke? Just tell the truth, get your return, and let Target or Mattel take the hit from defective merchandise. Why would you waste your time krazy gluing the broken figure, returning it to its plastic ties, taping the package shut, and then representing falsely that the product you're returning is new and unopened just so you can waste someone else's time when Target sells them a defective product? I don't get it.

Grabbed the Mosasaur and Spino story pack yesterday during the Target sale. With all the other promos on other things, I ended up getting a couple coupons/gift cards, which I'm debating using for the big Spino. I'm not really a huge fan of action gimmicks, but it looks undeniably cool. That's why I got the Mosa as well; I love the green color scheme on it, though I can't use the action feature too much (at all, really) without scaring my cat.

Really only got the Spino story pack for the Spino, and to tide me over until the smaller story packs come out, since those are my preferred looks for the human characters. Haven't looked to see what all the various sail designs we've gotten on each Spino figure is, but it would be cool if we eventually got all 4 (or however many there were) from the movie, even if it's in different lines.

Don't think I realized that the Quetzal was a WalMart exclusive until the other day; bummer too, since I don't have any WalMarts near me. It went on sale down to $20 on their site too.

Been a pricey couple weeks for me, dino-wise, but I'm not complaining! I haven't gone this all-out on Jurassic Toys in a long, long time.

Edited to ask- I'm thinking of dipping my toes into a little customizing; I want to try adding a wash to some of these dinos to dirty them up a bit, but I have no idea where to start. Anyone done any themselves and know of a good one to try for beginners?

I was about to say Mattel does use regular ol' scotch tape on these, which bugs me the hell out, but then seeing the rest of your tale - UGH, I'm sorry. People are garbage.

Oh! Saw the movie Tuesday night!

I liked it for the most part. There wasn't much mutant content, but what there was still 100000% could've been done the exact same way with actual dinosaurs instead.

Still hate the redesigns for the Spinos & Quetzal. Thank Christ we got the III Spino in Hammond. Praying we get the Dominion Quetzal. Scared we haven't already. 😰

I'd put it 4th after the first three (in order). At least it didn't have Gary Stu Owen & Mary Sue Kayla & a buncha fuckin' locusts, lol.

I definitely agree that they could've just stuck with normal dinos. It easily could've been the place they dumped the dinos that didn't quite meet expectations for what they wanted for the park in terms of attitude, colors, etc., without having to be full-on mutants. I understand the desire to keep going bigger and badder and cooler, but people are enthralled with just regular dinos too (despite what the movies would have us believe- I don't see people ever getting bored with dinos!). While I do think Rebirth course corrected a little bit with getting us back to basics, I'd love to see another simple, no-frills dino movie again soon.

However, I did like the Spinos' redesign. I'm a JP3 defender, especially as far as the Spino is concerned, and I'll always go to bat over that one, but seeing as how that's basically a hybrid accident in its own right, I'm cool with that being a one-off and having more accurate ones elsewhere. Then again, I'm biased; for whatever reason, I've always loved aquatic/marine creatures and stuff, so a more fishy design for the Spinos really hit that sweet spot for me. I'm sure because we got the JP3 Spino just now, it'll be a bit before a Rebirth one comes along in the Hammond Collection, but I'd gladly take it.

Same with the Quetzal. I really loved its color scheme more in Rebirth, and I liked the smaller, but still quite large, size. The Quetzal in Dominion felt too big to me, whether it was more accurate or not. I like that the Rebirth one was a bit more manageable for the humans to interact with (as much as they could, anyway).

But to each their own! Everyone's got a favorite dino and ways they prefer their other dinos. I haven't really disliked any dino or how they were portrayed. I'm a simple guy- I see dinos, I get excited.

The Quetzal was indeed too large in Dominion. Quetzalcoatlus did indeed have a 40 ft wingspan and a very large body but it didn’t dwarf a cargo plane. If anything about the size of a giraffe and had very hollow bones that allowed it to take flight. So it definitely wasn’t as big or robust as it was in dominion. Here is actually a nice little documentary about the Quetzalcoatlus as well as the family of Pterosaurs it belonged to.

I just meant I hated the head design in Rebirth, lol. The weird parrot/rhino hybrid beak. I prefer the rooster crest from Dominion (and the color scheme from the Massive Action toy).

Yuck (IMO). (Though, it is a cool color scheme, but I REALLY like the Dominion Massive Action one more than anything lol.)

Literally just give me the Massive Action toy, but no action feature, and the better articulation/glass eyes. Same size. I have it sitting on the outhouse, so that's definitely not "cargo plane" size.

Got the Hammond collection Stegosaurus, and it’s awesome. And the newer Velociraptor. Love this line. Wish they still made the Amber collection.

Any Hammond Collection rumored for the new movie? Just saw it today, and it was a blast.

Found the Distortus Rex story pack at a Target out on Long Island yesterday. It was tagged and priced, but I scanned it in the price checker just to be sure, and while the price was the same, it said "out of stock", so I was fully expecting to get street dated on it, but the register let me check out. Ended up getting it for about $22 by using some of the coupons and things I accrued during the Target Circle sale.

Haven't gotten around to opening it yet, but I'm happy to have it. It's definitely my preferred look for Reuben of the 2 figures, and Isabella and Dolores are nice to have, as is a D-Rex without any sort of action feature, which I'm not partial to. It'll tide me over until we hopefully get a Hammond D-Rex one day. I'll probably try and offload the boat; not a big vehicle guy, myself. But I learned my lesson with the CC/CT kids- if I see any humans I want, regardless of what pack-ins they come with, just get them, cuz I probably won't ever find them again!

All caught up on story packs for now (except for Martin)- definitely like the single packed Zora and Henry a lot better than the Spino pack.

From my understanding, the price check kisoks at Target are for ONLINE and not in store, because I've scanned items at those kiosks only to get 'street dated' at the register when nothing on the kiosk mentioned it.

How interesting, and good to know. I suppose that explains why that's been happening more and more lately- finding something at some random place in store, scanning it, and being told it's out of stock. It only caused an issue once when I apparently bought a shelf that wasn't set to be released yet, but the employee just put in the price from their little scanners. So silly that blocks of wood are cool to override the street date, but not little chunks of plastic. 😅

If they make the T-Rex I hope they remake the mold and get rid of those giant feet, double jointed knees and more realistic T-Rex anatomy and proportions. I also hope the T-Rex is a little bigger than the first figure since the T-Rex in rebirth is massive. It’s about the same size as the Indominous Rex
