Mattel DC Figures

Noted. XenForo doesn't currently have easy pronoun implementation. If they add it, I'll enable it here.

I could probably create a custom field, but I'm not sure it would do much good buried in the user profiles. I'm sure there are also a decent number of users who would treat it as a joke.

If you all feel otherwise, let me know.

Looking at this thread, it seems it's possible to add a custom field and have it displayed below usernames on posts. https://xenforo.com/community/threads/gender-and-pronouns-addon.186620/post-1470292

I highly encourage it, personally. Some members I see frequently are people who could find comfort from this sort of thing, and most are at least are open-minded enough to see no problem with it. So long as it's optional!

Oh, great, SD's going to chime in about how he could totally have prevented the downfall of every failed toyline ever. Or made every successful one even more successful.

Please, enlighten us about why Kenner had their heads up their asses in 1978.

Hell, even I can tell you that! First of all, way too much Star Wars. You look at those Kenner toybooks from the era and it's nothing but. No Paradise Alley figures, no Autumn Sonata figures, and most egregiously, no figures from Claudia Weill's seminal feminist dramedy Girlfriends. That's a lot of kids you're leaving out in the cold with all this focus on Wookies. Diversify your portfolio!

Here’s my take. I expect at this point of my collection to cherry pick. I’m a “one version of each character” on display kinda guy. (A few exceptions like a small Dark Knight display). That would be true for whoever makes the figures.

What I hope from the start of this line is some slots that acknowledge that this is in some ways a successor to DCUC. Yes, of course the need the big hitters to make the line viable. But when the time comes for B or C listers, my personal expectation and hope is that they pick characters they didn’t do before. Even if it means I only pick up one fig every wave or two, I’d feel like they were paying attention to their long time fans.

If the first bunch of “niche characters” were say Kamandi, Jemm, and fish head GL, I’d be pissed. If it was GA Mr. Terrific, Granny Goodness, or Bronze Age Katanna, I’d be thrilled.

Well, I hope they *also* pick characters they (and McFarlane) didn’t do before, but I don’t want this to turn into a “fill in” line. We’ve come a long way since DCUC style and engineering.

1000%

I want a new Adam Strange, Animal Man, OMAC, Kamandi, Forager, Guardian, Mantis, etc. et al. Plus everything they didn’t do like Mera, Chief, Forever People, Dolphin, Bluebird, Claw, Warlord and…you get the idea. No fillers. Start from zero.

Action figure Field of Dreams. 😁

I'm right there with you. I've been collecting since Super Powers, so I've already built a substantial Bat-related collection from DCDirect, Mattel, and McFarlane. I'm not really interested in a complete redo, I'm interested in figures that fit in line with what I already have. Mattel never made a decent Batman in my opinion, so I'd be interested in upgrades here and there. But I'm much more interested in buying a Calendar Man in scale with DCUC than I am with buying another Joker, for example.

I don't think this is a successor to DCUC at all and I don't think they're thinking of it that way. The likelihood based on what we're seeing now is completely different articulation and sculpting styles. Considering a decade+ old toyline when determining character selection here seems nuts. No superhero line has ever had a problem getting people to re-buy characters.

I wish I had your disposable income!

It would have to be one hell of an upgrade for me to want to replace my Forager or Monsieur Mallah.

I hope they do it all for you guys. I just don’t intend to buy it all!

I’ll potentially upgrade a few (looking at Kid Flash). But in general unless it’s a huge upgrade, I’ll be looking at figures I don’t have.

If it were limited to just new niche guys and redos of the heavy hitters, I'd get bored fast. Mind you, I'm considering any characters that are not Batfamily + Joker, the core 7 Justice Leaguers, and Supergirl as "niche" in this context. Maybe 70% of my favorite characters have been made by some company in some capacity at some point. Just not in any capacity where I actually want to pick up and play with the figure.

And besides, that'd leave groups like Shadowpact or Outsiders half-complete, with the other half being out of scale, outdated, or just plain bad.

I want a good Metamorpho. A good Aquaman. A good Ragman and Nightmaster. A good Azrael and 90s Nightwing. Plus Bronze Age Katana, OG Mera and Aqualad, Shadowpact Nightshade and Blue Devil, and 90s Huntress and Oracle for the first time in a hyper-articulated 6 inch line to complete those groups.

In general, I'm approaching this line as something that's never, ever been done before. And by my standards, and by the standards of the line we're likely about to see in two weeks, it absolutely has not been done before by ANY DC toyline.

So how many of you are going to cry if Mattel doesn't show any DC Collector figures at SDCC?

I hope they can show what is coming at SDCC but they may not be allowed to show any collector figures until January 1, 2027. This is what happed to McFarlane. They weren't allowed to show anything until January 1, 2020 and that is when figures hit the shelves. Hopefully Mattel will show more Core figures at SDCC. Come on Wonder Woman, Supergirl & Batgirl.

I personally would love another 6 months of arguing here with strangers about what the line should be!
