Mattel DC Figures

Wow, 22 points of articulation on the $12 line 6.5" Core line? That's exactly the same as advertised on the packaging for the McFarlane regular and Collector's Edition lines at one-half to one-third of the cost!

Please note that it does say Fall 2026 for those who thought these were going to hit earlier than that.

$12 for 6.5 inch figures with 22 points of articulation seems impossible... like has to be a misprint

Toys break early on the regular lately, so I wouldn't be surprised to see in hand reviews before.

I really hate to admit that I’m wrong. About anything really. I’m human. Comes with the territory. Mattel lost the license for DC in 2019 due to hubris, apathy, and greed.

But it’s become apparent to me that Todd is out of his depth dealing with the DC license for the last seven years. Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoy his work immensely. Can’t wait to see how he closes out. I’m hoping for a bang, not a whimper. He did his best. Mostly. He tried to reimagine things. Approach things from a different perspective. Trying multiple form factors to appeal to different niches. His work on vehicles was pretty spectacular. His character selection is pretty on par with Marvel Legends. In a perfect world, there’d be a way for him to continue the 7ā€ scale and not step on Mattel’s toes. That’s not happening.

Showing a handful of figures and putting out a brief press release may have just reoriented the market for superhero toys. This is a kids line that has grown @$$ men thrilled.

Where’s the Marvel Legends kids line?

Seems like something a lot of toy makers have forgotten about. Ya know, kids?

I’m starting to feel pretty optimistic about the ā€œcollector lineā€ next year.

We know.

McFarlane would have worked so much better if he was to DC what DST was for Marvel; an alternative, slightly differently-scaled product line that can focus on the kinds of things Todd is best at, like details and weird monsters and shit. A complete line of 'Todd's personal re-interpretations of popular DC characters' while someone else focused on the 'Marvel Legends for DC' concept would have made so much more sense than someone like Todd trying to do -everything-. It was never going to work, and the relative lack of quality and definite lack of understanding what collectors actually want is at least partially driven by needing to just keep cranking out product week-to-week and never taking time to step back and look at what's working and what isn't.

I'll always thank McFarlane, though, for finally giving me a truly lovely 'Forever' Batman. It isn't fun to play with, but it looks fantastic on the shelf and makes me happy to own.

These look pretty darn good, I will say. A good balance of that nostalgia from toys of yester-year mixed with some modern flare. The prices are certainly nothing to complain about either. I'm cautiously optimistic; I fully expected them to put their best foot forward right out of the gate, as it seems they're doing. The real question will be whether it can all be sustained- prices, quality, etc. Like Atomic Knight said, Mattel definitely let things go to their heads a bit toward the end, and with the world heading where it seems to be, I wonder how likely this price and quality are to stick around longterm.

I'm sure I'll cherry pick the line to begin with. I'm always down for a well-rounded roster of villains. If Mattel can give us a solid lineup of Batman baddies in an even somewhat consistent style, I'll be down to clown.

$13 for an action figure of a decent size (and not those stiff 12-inch things every company makes) is great for the toy aisle, even if the toys aren't for me. Parents feel better buying this than a 3.75 inch figure for around the same price, that's for sure. Playmates TMNT has been around this price point forever, and when it comes to buying for kids' birthday parties and getting a good bang for your buck, that can't be beat.
