Masters of the Universe: Origins

Definitely. I own a good chunk of MOTUO. In fact, I was probably more committed to the large items than to the figures, in the sense that I own a greater percentage of the former than the latter in terms of what's been released overall. I just think it's so cool to re-collect a Castle Grayskull and a Snake Mountain and a bunch of vehicles, and a bunch of figures and really have that sense of when I was a kid and was getting all that stuff for the first time - but MORE this time because I'm a grown up and it's my money now and no one can stop me.

But my love for MOTU doesn't make me as blind as Mattel would like it to. That playset is not worth 300 dollars. It's barely worth half that. I don't believe a single person at Mattel actually believes that price is reasonable, either. They just think you'll pay it. And that's all they care about.

It does look like the playset will certainly fund. it only needs 35 backers in 8 days. I really did figure this set would fund. It is really neat looking, but I just can't do it. It's more that I don't NEED to do it. I have no emotional or nostalgic feelings towards this set since it did not exist when I was a kid. So, I can skip it and save space and money for things that actually mean something to me.

And, as we have all discussed on here, I just don't for a second believe it's worth $300. And that's before shipping and tax! Nope, I don't need to spend that money on this item.

But I really do think it's a neat and fun looking playset.

I would love to back it but the price, combined with all sorts of preorders charging in the past month, has killed any chance of me backing. Also it doesn't help that in Canada it is $510Cdn before taxes and shipping. The Snow C.A.T. was $520.XXCdn after all was said and done (exchange, taxes).

So a $325US item works out to be less than a $300US item for me in Canada? No thanks.

So as of now the Snake Lair is funded (6,005 backers).

I can't see this getting to the 8,000 needed to unlock Pythonus but at least it will be getting made. Not that I am in on funding this though.

I'm in this weird mental space where I, of course, want all my fellow collectors to get all the toys that they're excited by. At the same time, I actively wanted this project to fail because it deserves to, and in fact I think for the health of the toy industry it NEEDED to.

It's almost September, and even though once again we are not getting a figure from the vintage collection to complete the original MOTU lineup we were promised, I am still VERY excited for September's release.

It's She-Ra and Swift Wind! I definitely will grab x2 of this set.

Also, it seems like people were finding listings for the 200X Origins sub line on Amazon. And it does appear that characters like Ram Man, Roboto, Clawful, and Beast Man will be sold as "Deluxe" figures at a deluxe price point. I'm not sure what the prices will be for Deluxe and Basic in the 200X subline, but there will be two different price points.

I got processing soon e-mails for the next Wave of Cartoon Origins with Whiplash, Bow, and Shadow Weaver from BBTS. A Tariff surcharge was added. It's odd though. Bow and Whiplash went from $19.99 to $20.49

But Shadow Weaver went from $19.99 to $22.49

Why would Shadow Weaver cost more than the others?

Damn, i better check on my orders. I got the same notices plus the second wave of Thundercats, but didn’t think about tariff charges. I already have that TCats wave coming from EE because of my weak resolve and finding some thing on sale to add to get free shipping. I should cancel BBTS.

Got an email a little bit ago that the 22.49 price on Shadow Weaver was an error and she is also 20.49.
Thats cool. I thought that was weird that she was a whole $2 more than the other two after tariffs. I'm glad it was just an error.

So the Snake Lair finally finished funding. Ended at 6.576 total backers. Not a great turn out for the project, but I guess it funded and that is all that matters for those who backed it. As much as I would like to hope that Mattel will be more conscious of their pricing and offerings going forward for crowdfunds, I doubt it.

While it's too bad for those who funded the project, I am kind of glad Pythonus didn't get unlocked. Because now maybe he will just be released on Creations as a single figure. I've always wanted a figure of him, but I just didn't need that particular playset. Especially at that price.

My Cartoon Origins figures have shipped from BBTS. And they did correct the price on Shadow Weaver. I imagine the next Wave to go up for preorder will be 200X related.
