Masters of the Universe: Origins

I'm so tempted by that four-pack just because of how fun the characters look. I love army units like that, but I don't collect Origins outside of the crossover stuff and maybe the sketch stuff someday when/if my resistance breaks down (and they go on clearance).

So, it's an Origins figure on May 24th on Mattel Creations. It's Despara. That's pretty cool. I really did think it would be Masterverse Moss Man, but I guess not.

Despara was such a great figure in MOTU Classics. So, let's hope this one is too.

I may get Despara, I may not. Depends on how wild and crazy I feel when I wake up that morning. I noticed that BBTS has the Skeletor/Screech two pack on sale for $23.99 right now. I've had it in my shopping cart "Saved for Later" section since it was released and I think this is the first time it has been on sale. I really want Screech but wish I didn't have to buy Skeletor to get him, but I suppose I will go ahead and do it. At least that Skeletor is a bit different, colorwise.

That Skeletor also has a hinged jaw.

I might have to cave on Despara instead of waiting, but at least I can combine her with other stuff I have held off on to save a bit on shipping.

I like the 5" origins compatible nature ... $30 feels a little steep but if I want a Conan and Sonja to go with He-Man...

I ordered all 3. They look awesome. And while $30 is a bit much, I'm paying between $20-$23 per Origins at this point since I have to get them from BBTS and Amazon. Hell, I pay more than that when it's a Mattel Creations exclusive. So, $30 isn't outrageous.

And I want all 3 of these to go with my MOTU figures. So, screw it, I ordered them.

Wow. That almost feels shameless, doesn't it? Not saying it's a bad idea (quite the opposite), but it definitely feels like a straight rip-off of what Mattel is doing and I'm kind of surprised they are getting away with it. Also, if the idea is to make these compatible withe Origins -- I feel like Sonja is over-detailed a bit and will look very out of place next to Teela or She-Ra.

I mean... thats just right in line with what happened in the 80's, right? All those motu adjacent sword and sorcery lines. Remco even did a motu inspired Conan line.

Can you even trademark an articulation scheme? That seems like it could be a universal thing available for many. Part of me wishes more figures could fit together in a particular style. It’s what suckered me into so many 5poa revival lines. I almost see Masterverse New Eternia as the Classified line of MotU. Boss Fight certainly took cues from Marvel Legends and other import lines that use double elbows and knees, ankle rockers, etc. These “innovations” should be considered industry standard now.

Despara looks great! I was just popping in to ask about the quality from Boss Fight (never bought from them before). I'd love to pick up Conan and Red Sonja in a compatible scale. (Apparently that's all I do with those two characters, find them in compatible scales and add them to displays.)
