Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Just got processing notification for Ninjor from BBTS. Looks like I'm getting claws of doom Skeletor, She-Ra, Ninjor, plus the origins cartoon Catra and that origins multipack all at once. If it's still discounted when Ninjor hits my POL, I'm gonna get the havoc throne. Why not. The world is ending, buy toys, right?

Not to delve into a debate I wasn't part of, but the better pictures comment really did inspire me to get off my duff and take some NICE photos of my Masterverse. I once in a while set up the lighting rig, get out my work camera, and build an Extreme Sets backdrop to get glamor shots of Mythic Legions, and now I'm like why haven't I ever done that for these guys? You know who I need to take some glam pics of? SY-CLONE. that guy us photogenic AF.

That sale ends tomorrow at 3 pm central so if you think you will want it you might want to grab it.

wasn’t talking about what photos -you- have seen. You’re correct in the idea that this notion is relevant to nothing and almost nobody.
Got it. That's all - just confusion because I was assuming you were mixing these two things as one overall point. But yeah, we totally agree here. Mattel's photography is pretty terrible. In fact, I'm genuinely surprised they've never stepped that up considering they seemed to get a lot of traction from MattK's MOTUC reviews back in the day, and more recently from the Origins stop-motion stuff. So clearly someone at Mattel understands the relevance of people getting a chance to see your figures looking cool.

I guess maybe the simplest answer is that a good photographer costs money and if Mattel is pinching pennies, that's probably one of the first places they're going to start?

We can have whatever silly toy opinions we like and we really don’t -need- to defend them.
Let me clarify - I don't think 'defending an opinion' needs to be aggressive or suppose there's a deeply adversarial relationship between two people. We defend our opinions all the time on this forum (and elsewhere). Any time you tell a friend you like a show and tell them why you like it - you're defending that opinion. That's normal and usually pretty mellow. You defended your opinion, unprompted, as to why Mattel should put more effort into photography.
And no - no one needs to defend their opinions or give them any context. But that seems to be a very shallow way to interact with other people. We all just pop in and say 'I like this' or 'I don't like this' and no one engages anyone else on those opinions at all? Seems weird to me.

Sir I believe you when you say you’re not interested in “agree to disagree”

lol I've read your posts.
Lol Fair enough.

You really shouldn’t be so provincial. I’m sure a Smart guy like you knows that language/words is/are fluid.
Not that fluid. It's cool though - Mattel is innovative because they make action figures. What an innovative thing to do, since words don't mean things anymore. I might go buy a TV this weekend -- I'm hoping it has one of those innovative screens that lets you see the pictures in motion.

Furthermore, we -still- don’t know the last figure you’ve picked up? Even if it holds no relevance to you personally.

Is it like a secret or something?
I did answer this. I honestly don't know. I said that. Twice, I think. I don't remember what the last figure I bought was, and I don't know if the last figure I bought was newer or older than the figure before it. Short of making a list of every figure I have owned from this line, or spending my time reading through checklists to try to figure it out, I genuinely don't know the answer.

Keep in mind these are kind of expensive in Canada, so I don't always buy figures as soon as they come out and try to wait for sales. The only figures I've pre-ordered, I think, and therefore gotten pretty quickly were the movie figures (again, I did mention I have all of those currently). If I had to guess at the newest figure we have it would be ... Man-of-War (the white MAA from Revolution). Or the Skelcon? Which one is newer? And I couldn't tell you if either one of those is newer or older than movie Beast Man and movie Lyn (I do -think- I remember that Lyn came out after Beast Man?).

I'm really excited to get Ninjor, but I don't know when I'll be picking that one up. I'd like to find it locally (or, at least, from a Canadian e-tailer) before running to BBTS.

Is this what happens on slow news days? Good lord. Arguing semantics when discussing toys is so...well...it's something.
Come on. This can't surprise you.

Bro. I can’t even focus on anything other than my burning envy of you owning a movie beast man.
It burns.

Smmfh.

Wait.. was he hard to find? I love the movie stuff so I pre-order those figures. I PO'd BM from BBTS (that's so many acronyms) and never gave it another thought.
Also, yeah, he's an awesome figure. I'm really hoping Blade turns out as good. The color they went with for Beast Man's sword is very nice (although, I think I'd prefer something more bright silvery for Blade).

No.
He wasn’t.

That’s what sucks an orca dong.
It sat.
Forever.
I’m pretty sure bbts had it clearanced for a minute for like 18 bucks. 😑😑😑

Now Like 150+ American

Speaking of horrible promo pics. Look at how they have the knees posed here. Good grief.

LOL

I fucking haaaaaate when that happens. I've occasionally skipped a figure that was hovering at like 50% off all over the place and when I finally want to grab it it's like quadrupled in value and you are only allowed to buy it if you have a Costco card and a Pulse membership but only if you got your Costco card on a Thursday as long as it wasn't summertime. Bullshit.

You can't have my Beast Man, though. My pity only extends so far.

Only bending the lower knee joint is on my Mount Rushmore of posing faux pas right next to "superhero landing poses" where it, at best, looks okay from one angle, and from all other angles looks like someone searching the carpet for their lost contact lens.

Just some quick thoughts about the newest NE Beast Man: He's a pretty figure. Nice colors. Fun face. Very lacking in "play gimmick" as I talked about earlier, and I really think he could use something other than the jaw movement on his (very soft plastic) head. Tiny gripe, he uses the old-style thin wrist pegs that feel like they are going to snap any moment. But my biggest issue with him was his lack of gear storage; cheap Walmart stretchy cord in brown color to the rescue! Just tied little loops around his tassets, which have these little cuts in them that keep the cord in place, and I'm pretty happy with how he looks now:

With my favorite beast, man

Justice, thanks for the head's up about the sale ending - I'm pulling the trigger on the throne right after I hit post on this reply.

And I, too, missed out on the NOT hard to find movie Beastman, while discounted on BBTS, and keep checking different sites every week hoping someone finds a bunch of him on a truck somewhere...

I did not miss out on Beast Man because I learned a valuable lesson about this line after missing out on Battle Armor Skeletor and having to practically trade a kidney to get him later. Speaking of, I got mine and got my custom cape for him at the suggestion of @vicious

How did you attach the thing anyway? Just kind of wrapped it over his shoulders? I went back through the thread looking for a picture you posted of him on Panthor but can't find it anywhere. I know you posted one somewhere because I remember the feeling I got looking at it and not having him...like a hot knife stabbing into my soul and twisting.

I YOLO'd the throne, but now I'm patiently waiting for Ninjor to process like a dog waiting for cheese because my POL is ALL MOTU. So much good stuff. can't wait.
