Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Forgot to mention, the newest wave PLUS 200x Beast Man hit my POL on Friday.

I am super excited to get these in hand.

See-- I, like a fool, sold a bunch of my Masterverse a few years back, and have kept a distant watch on the line through the last couple of years. Keeping an eye on it, and hemming and hawing about getting back into it.

But just seeing the line going into a movie year, and knowing that it's going to kick off a whole new MOTU boom period (if the Barbie movie is any indication), I want to be there on the ground floor. If that makes sense. I was alive for the start of the line/cartoon, and subsequently each new iteration of it through the decades, and I want to be fully in when it gains a new following and popularity. I want to beat the people who next year are doing what I'm doing now--before everything becomes even more difficult to find.

So my goal is to have everything caught up Masterverse-wise before the movie next year.

So close to completing that checklist. Not for an investment, for the record. For me, to have. Because...ya know...why did I even sell them in the first place? Dummy.
What do you have in your collection to consider it caught up? If I was doing this all over again, I’d probably skip Revelation/Revolution stuff.

I got rid of all my Masterverse stuff except the '87 movie stuff and New Adventures, and so far I don't regret it at all. I found that Origins is just more to my taste for the regular figures, and as cool as they are, a lot of the redesigns and stuff just aren't doing anything for me.

I'm still SO fucking pissed that I was a dummy and missed out on Blade, though. Goddamn he's going for a fortune now.

I'm pretty much collecting the whole line all over again. See, I loved the Revelation/Revolution series, so they are a definite necessity for me. The Prince Adam being a particularly elusive grail for me right now. At any decent price, at least.

Yeah, I gave up on the Revelations Adam, which was slightly easier to do knowing that they're never really going to "complete" the line anyways. Otherwise, I think NE Webstor is the only one still outstanding for me that I'd want, but I'm gonna hope they do another version down the line.

I don't mean this as some sort of brag, but I did buy Blade despite having no interest in the movie figures, just because I thought he was neat. I hate that now I have to decide between keeping him and selling him. It probably sounds stupid but I wish he'd get a rerelease just so I could open mine guilt-free. Stupid capitalism and me not having a lot of capital.

I totally get that. I've had a few figures over the years where the value skyrocketed and the figure wasn't something I was deeply attached to, to the point where I had to wonder if I was being stupid by keeping it. It's hard when selling a figure that's just 'cool' could buy you like five figures you actually care a lot about getting.

$30 would be the most I would have paid for him, so with that in mind, if I don't sell him for $60+, it feels like I'm being fiscally irresponsible. It's just a lot tougher when he's in-hand, something you collect, and you only have one.

I hear you. I've got several "hard to find" Masterverse figures. Movie Blade and Beast Man, Webstor, Battle Armor Skeletor, Buzz Off...

And while I'm certainly an 80s baby, 90s kid who grew up on MOTU and I do love MOTU, it's never been a super high collecting priority for me. If I can get it, I'll get it. And I'm going begrudgingly all in on Mondo's 1/12 offerings.

TMNT? X-Men? Batman? Evil Dead? Now, those I *need* to collect everything that I can get my grubby little mitts on.

So when I'm sitting there looking at these amazing JoyToy TMNT pre-orders and X-Men '97 two packs, and that LPZZ Arkham Batman, and trying to budget a way to get them...

...and then look at these hard to find MOTU that could fetch me a pretty penny to pay for those items, I have to pause and ask myself a few questions.

-Will I regret unloading them?
-Will I be able to easily get them back in the future should I so choose?
-Will they leave a noticeable hole and cause me to just ditch the line altogether, because I have an almost OCD level of completionist in me?

Decisions, decisions. Rather "Wish I would have won the 1.6 billion dollar PowerBall"...
