Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Yeah, I really hope they put in some New Eternia and Vintage looks in Masterverse during the Movie Year. If not, I'll just save money. I'm going to try my best not to buy any Masterverse of the Motion Picture. If I buy anything of the new Motion Picture, it would be the kids movie line. As I assume it will have playsets, vehicles, and beasts potentially.

But realistically, I probably will end up with Movie Masterverse. It's hard for me to turn down anything He-man.

I appreciate that you literally changed your mind in the middle of the post 😂

I'm not even pretending I won't get them. I can say I won't but I know I will cave.

Sigh. I know I’ll buy the movie figures too.

And who knows? Maybe they will be cool toys. The plot and (some of, looking at you Leto) the casting have problems, but most of the actual screen designs we’ve seen look pretty darn good.

I can't rule 'em out till I see what they look like. But with the Mondo 200X stuff also starting up one of these months, I may end up tapping out on ... something. I dunno. You know how people around here get real mad that the Origins stuff hasn't done every single original toy yet? It's not like boiling my blood or anything, but I kind of want at least that out of New Eternia before it goes away. Maybe the movie can beef up awareness to keep the line plugging along afterwards. Stranger things have happened!

Forced to make a choice I'd rather get a re-imagining of every vintage figure in New Eternia over completing Origins. I love New Eternia so much and with Origins you know exactly what you are going to get but with NE a reveal is something to look forward to, seeing how they will reinterpret it.

I think the success of the various fuckload megaton of comic book movies, as well as all the other nerd-based projects come to TV and Film, the people making this film are less embarrassed by the source material than previously. Possibly filmmakers are even starting to clue in that if you want to adapt something with a built-in fanbase, don't change the things that made people fans.

I'm the opposite. I just want to finish my vintage toys, maybe add some new guys in there when I can like your Wundars, and He-Ros (two figures I didn't even get). I like admiring the New Eternia stuff from afar, but I'm finding I have very little desire to own any of it. I buy it, get bored with it pretty fast, and then get rid of it. And that's a cycle I've gotta get out of.
Maybe I'm just getting old and set in my ways. Have I finally reached the age where I don't accept new things? I've listened to fewer new bands lately too. Oh no.... oh no....

Oh I definitely want to finish my vintage updated Origins too and only slightly less than wanting to finish New Eternia. At this point it is just dragging out so long that it is starting to cause my interest to wane. They are doing a good job of distracting me with other stuff too.

I find it hilarious that Damien and I are both huge MOTU fans and want polar opposite things from a toyline. Most of the remaining vintage cast doesn't excite me that much though we do need a lot more Snake Men. I would love for Masterverse to hit some unique new characters like they have put into Origins (Lady Slither, Vypor). They put all these cool new designs in the package art - put some of those in the 7 inch line... Maybe some of those A el Gimenez designs that never made it into Classics like Great Black Wizard, Red Shadow, Hans Hammerholder - give me something new to look forward to.

I heard rumor that the upcoming Moss Man would be a Deluxe on the same body as Deluxe New Eternia Beast Man. I have no proof to back up this claim, but I'd sure dig it! That big beefy Beast Man body is one of my favorites in the line and I'd appreciate seeing it reused. The new smaller Beast Man body looks great from the front, but it's just so thin from front to back. It looks like those Barbie vans that look full scale from the side in the package, but then you see it outside the box and it's only half as wide as it should be.

I have not heard this rumor, but it is one of the hopes I have for NE Mossy (unless they go all out and sculpt a totally new vine-y body for him). I’ve always thought of Moss-Man as Swamp Thing crossed with Bigfoot.

My favorite Moss Man look by far is 200X, but presumably Mondo will give us one of those eventually. If they last that long. Still, I hope the NE version has a couple of head options at the least, to get different looks in there.

That's what's great about MOTU -- there's so many ways to come at the fandom and different things to enjoy. Maybe I'm more 'swordy boardy' and you're more 'space cowboy zappy zappy' - but we can still play together.

That being said - I'm all for new characters. I campaigned pretty hard during MOTUC for more original characters, more background characters, the fucking Masks of Power Demons that WE NEVER FUCKING GOT IN ANY GODDAMN MOTU LINE!.... all kinds of stuff. Even now, where Masterverse is concerned - I'd much rather get a Vikor than another version of Stratos or Skeletor.

My big, if you can put it this way, anti-new character thing is only in Origins, and only in the sense I believe finishing the vintage line should come -first- (not only) because they promised to do it and because I think they're running out of time to get it done before the line collapses or prices itself out of existence.

But I've always been a big fan new stuff in MOTU. Even in the earlier days of Origins it was always great to look at the box art and start begging for whatever random new character they threw in there. But now? I just want Mattel held to the standard of 'do what you say you're going to do and respect your customers.' That's it. After they do that? Balls out.

Just got a big box of MOTU stuff from BBTS tonight - got Claws Skeletor, NE She-Ra, Ninjor, and the havoc throne (plus the Origins Catra) waiting to crack open.

For as much as I love this line, I'm really wildly disinterested in new movie figures, but I'm sure I'll be talked into it. I just haven't seen anything that makes me really want figures from it yet. I'm in the camp of wanting more New Eternia stuff but the cartoon-style Masterverse figures have been really cool so far, so I'm still sold on those.

Would love to see Despera at this scale too. The origins style version looks fantastic.
