But theres something about Masterverse I still find very compelling as a toyline. An X Factor i guess.
Sure. But I didn't say people don't like them.
People still like G.I. Joe O-Ring figures, but they weren't releasing those side-by-side with the 25th Anniversary stuff. ToyBiz stopped making 5" 7POA figures when ML started. It's just weird to me to have these two lines releasing at the same time that are identical in concept, but different in approach. It's not a judgement call about whether Masterverse figures -should- exist.
I mean Chronicles is like more than an inch shorter than Masterverse and has only done movie figures... they aren't remotely similar.
I mean, come on. None of this is true.
Chronicles technically started with a non-movie figure, and its only Creations figure to date has been non-movie as well.
And they are absolutely 'remotely similar.' They are similarly-scaled, super-articulated Masters of the Universe action figures sold to both collectors and children at mass retail and through online exclusives and e-tailers. Saying they're not 'remotely similar' because the scale of the two lines doesn't line up exactly is wildly disingenuous.
The engineering on Chronicles may be a step up, but for fans of the original property that invested in Masterverse it isn't something that could be blended in at all so would mean starting over, again, assuming they even do more than movie figures in that scale.
Okay? I didn't say anything to contradict this. But I guess that means ToyBiz should have kept making 5" X-Men toys forever, because fans of that original line couldn't blend Marvel Legends into their 5" collection and would have to start over. I have no patience for the 'but this already exists, so it must continue to exist' argument.
And as I said to Scream - it's not a value judgement that Masterverse figures should not exist. I just found it crazy that Mattel would do that. I don't think 'Mattel is going to retire Masterverse and focus on their new line that's just Masterverse-but-a-little-better' is a strange expectation. Both because it makes the most sense from a business standpoint, and because it's what Mattel blatantly said they would be doing.
They can make Masterverse figures until the end of time if they want to. Dude, I'd LIKE them to, because I still want more '87 movie figures and I don't think they'll start that collection over again in Chronicles. I expected to see the final stragglers of Masterverse pop up in stores, but then nothing else as Mattel shifts focus. Seeing them still supporting that branding at all this far into Chronicles is just really surprising. Not BAD. Just surprising.
