Marvel Legends Maximum Series

I honestly think she may be better then the Mafex one.

I can count the number of Mafex figures where they aren't the best available in scale for the costume on one hand, and I agree that's one of them. Mafex female figures weirdly all have poor elbow range at only slightly better than 90 degrees so the Legends version kills it there, and they went with that odd anime style face with the Mafex that the Legends version is dramatically better than. The Mafex is also weirdly thin and lithe, and comic book artists of course never drew her that way especially in the 90s when every female character exhibited all of the ideals for the male gaze.

The only other that springs to mind is Maximum Spidey is probably slightly better than the Mafex comic Spideys, but they're so close that I'm not sure of it. If you factor in that Max Spidey is half the price of a Mafex then quality for the value is definitely better on the Max.

I’m weird, and I’ll be the first one to admit it. I only collect super posable figures, yet I rarely pose them. So innovations over and above the basic articulation that we’ve come to expect circa 2025 are often lost on me. I’m big on aesthetics, and in my Bizarro world, Husk is near perfect, and Gamerverse Psylocke, while so good in so many ways, is flawed.

Most of that is due to paint issues, and while I certainly think Hasbro could have done better, I also acknowledge that her costume is much more difficult than Husk’s in terms of balancing what areas of the costume should be painted and what areas should be molded in color. It’s a tough balancing act for a mass market retail line like Marvel Legends.

It's interesting that you made that exact comparison of Husk to Psylocke. Husk is my favorite figure of the year so far. I've wanted this Psylocke for a long time but it still doesn't do a ton for me because in my mind it's just an upgrade over a figure that I had paid for in the past, so doesn't feel like a "new" figure to me - but rather just one that I've paid for multiple times now....

I’m with you. There’s nothing like getting a “First Time in the Line” figure and crossing that character off your want list. An upgrade, so matter how good, can rarely compete with that feeling.

There are exceptions, like upgrading from Orange Cheeto Tigra to WCA Tigra, but they are few and far between.

Husk is my favorite ML of the year, and there’s nothing in the pipeline that’s going to knock her off her pedestal. It’s one of those releases where I feel like Hasbro got everything right. I was especially impressed that they gave her a new upper torso since she’s not as busty as Monet. They didn’t have to do that, but it shows a love for the character and an attention to detail that I really appreciate.

Psylocke is my favorite Legends figure of the year so far. She's neck and neck with Figma Link for my overall figure of the year.

Most of my 2025 purchases are hitting in the back half of the year, so we'll see if they keep their spots.

That same sentiment could apply to virtually any Legends figure of the year for almost twenty years. I can't remember the last first-time character that was also the best of that year in any objective way.

The particular irony of the comparison of Husk to Psylocke feeling the same is that Husk feels FAR more the same since she could have just been an extra head packed in with Monet. I felt like I was re-buying Monet again when I got Husk. Psylocke on the other hand feels like a work of art I can't compare to any of the prior versions much like the best figure of 2023 in Target Black Widow was compared to almost all of her previous versions.

Rom is awesome and is a first-in-the-line figure.

Count me in as a big fan of Maximum Spider-Man and Hulk and Gamerverse Psylocke.

Agree on all but Hulk. He just has too much re-use to be high on my list. The other 3 are damn near perfect figures.

Hmm. For me, I guess my top 3 of 2025 so far are probably Dragon Man, Max Spidey and Psylocke, despite the paint issues. I think Man-Wolf will bump one of the latter two once he's released.

I think I agree, but I also need to mull that over more. Implementing what may be the best butterfly joint of any figure to date shouldn't be taken lightly, although that is definitely complicated by how good that chest overlay really is. I know I'm still deciding that.

I'm also not entirely sure of everything that's old on him. I know the upper and lower legs and knees are old, but I haven't compared the hips yet to see if he gets any better range of motion. A past example of this was the first retro-carded Rogue--she was almost identical to the Juggernaut wave Rogue aside from a new head sculpt, but it turns out they had tweaked her hips and she got a much better range of motion with her legs. We didn't know that until we had her in hand. I need to pull an old Hulk out to compare and just haven't had time to do it yet.

The accessories on Hulk are also so good. Right now I lean towards him being somewhere in the top 20 for the year, but I'm not at all sure that's right or where he lands. Probably not top 5.

Thinking about articulation and Maximum figures, I wonder if they could make the crotch parts out of soft material like Hulk's chest? That give may allow the leg ROM (especially kicking up) meaningful extra degrees. You'd still need a hard plastic barbell inside it to atach legs, but I'd love to see them try it.

Let's see how that softer material holds up before they start using it more frequently. I expect it to be frayed, tattered, discolored and disintegrating within 24 months. I hope that I'm wrong!
