Marvel Legends Maximum Series

Re: Maximum Punisher

Punisher is one of my favorites so there's a good chance I'd be interested, but I'm also fervently of the opinion that it's a waste of a spot and does not need to happen. There is nothing -intrinsic- to Punisher that requires it. We already have a perfect Punisher body in the regular line. Besides a couple of heads, a couple of hands, and a couple of guns, he doesn't really need anything. And there's enough guns in ML already that 'we included a bunch of guns with him' isn't even really a selling point.

I would not be at all surprised if the classic Punisher many of us want ends up being a Max release, because they can artificially inflate the price on a bunch of parts they already have that way. But I strongly dislike the idea.
The last few days, I've been wanting a Maximum Daredevil. The more I think about it, to what end? Maybe he comes with wired billy clubs or a mobility cane, but I can already get those from a third-party/other figures. Nothing about Daredevil needs to be Maximum. I can say the same of several of the characters I've kicked around since they launched the Max line: Dr. Doom, Silver Surfer, Elektra, etc. What I want is the iconic version of those characters on a newly sculpted body.

The more you think about the Maximum line, the more you hit your head against the ceiling of the concept. Apocalypse? Okay, that could work. Mr. Fantastic? Maybe. Most characters don't need a ton of accessories, though.

This is largely how I feel.

I know Wolverine was also bandied around a lot as a potential (and almost assured) Max release. But like.. why? I feel like we're in the territory of encouraging Hasbro to think if they put more than one extra pair of hands in a package then they might as well double the price and throw in a few more pennies' worth of accessories.

This is honestly how I feel about some other higher-end brands in general. Mezco Dr. Doom was what, $150? Loaded with accessories for sure, but I'd be happier losing several of the extras and paying $100 for a fantastic, iconic Dr. Doom.

I like the *idea* of a premium subline within ML - there are plenty of characters that could be done well in this form - but they haven't covered themselves in glory with the first ~year of releases. They need to live up to the premise and not just use it as an excuse to charge higher prices for A-listers that come with just a little bit extra like you guys are saying. Thor does that for me. A wired cape *is* a value add to me, because I can neither make nor acquire one easily or inexpensively. That plus a dedicated sculpt, better paint work than a normal ML, and a healthy amount of accessories - I'm willing to pay a premium price for it. Premium relative to ML, but still cheaper than a similar offering would be from most other legit toymakers.

I feel the same way. I will admit that Thor is the first character -and- costume that I REALLY like that made it to the Max line. So I'm also willing to admit a bias here as to why I think Thor is worth it but Spider-Man and Deadpool aren't. (I won't even hear an argument for why Hulk is worth it - he's not.)

Do you think we could ever see villains in the Maximum line?

I’d love to see Hobgoblin or Venom get the max treatment. Also Mr Sinister would be fun if they included all of his clone personas using different head sculpts? And those head sculpts could be compatible with their previous Sinister releases. With the obvious exception of the the female clone. She would have to be her own dedicated release

I think Magneto will be Maximum - that's what was leaked. If he's not under the banner of Maximum then so be it, he still basically will be just that.

And Maximum has been great for me. People don't think Spider-man was worth it, but that was the absolutely only way I was ever getting a McFarlane Spider-man that perfectly dedicated to his art and having articulation to match. They nailed it way more than Mafex, Mafex just has better paint. I couldn't give a shit it was $50, I waited 3 decades for that figure and love him. Don't care about Deadpool, but it's a very nice dedicated sculpt to that particular design with some nice accessories.

Thor though, he's just next level, I imagine I will receive both him and Mephisto around the same time and both are Premium additions. Secret Wars Daredevil more or less does everything I need a Daredevil to do and that 2 pack Punisher I have is amazing. No need for them (for me), Wolverine or Iron Man in this series. Assuming the leaked Cyclops is accurate to Jim Lee's art on par with mini-comic wave figures I am happy as can be there. Make Iceman deluxe.....so for me my wants for Maximum would be:

Mr. Fantastic
Human Torch (or do deluxe)
Cable
Captain America
Winter Soldier
Dr. Doom

I still think "Maximum" refers to "what's the Maximum we can get people to pay for an otherwise standard figure with a lot of accessories that wont be exclusive to it?"

That "Maximum" Spiderman web blast effect is getting packed in with the forthcoming MCU Hulk. Maximum reuse I think is the prevailing theme. It'll probably be a mostly reuse Magneto with some novel effect pieces.

If Magneto gets a wired cape and a bubble shield (and more stuff) for $50 I think that may be a win. Give me a small stand to put the shield on.

What if he had a voice chip with MAX-level swearing? That's what the Maximum was about all along!

Everyone's making pretty great points. A lot of the Marvel characters I actually collect are ones I could see making it into this line -- Punisher, Elektra, Daredevil -- and they're perfectly well served by the main ML line's capabilities. I doubt that's going to stop Hasbro, given the popularity of those characters, their reoccurrence in multimedia projects, and the aftermarket prices some of their recent figures have hit. They seem likely candidates for inclusion.

I guess I could see this line pulling off a good Doctor Strange with a lot of new spell effects? As far as accessories go, those would at least have some level of uniqueness.

Doom and Magneto (if we're counting him as a villain) seem like good possibilities. Depending on how long this goes, I could see some of the big Spider-villains showing up?

Oh? I didn't get the Stilt Man they released a while back int he same wave with the Hand ninjas, was he bad?

He was fine, but the real Stilt-Man's maximum height is 290 ft. To scale, Hasbro! To scale! (Which I guess is achievable if you just bought enough parts or figures with parts, but help a Stilt-person out here.)

Villains I think can and might become Maximum releases:
-Magneto
-Doom
-Green Goblin
-Hobgoblin
-Doctor Octopus
-Venom
-Thanos
-Carnage

That pretty much feels like the list, yeah. And I guess we've already had a Deluxe-scale offering with Hulk, so Thanos and larger takes on Venom aren't out of the question.

If the line sticks around, I guess I could see Loki getting in there and maybe another 2-3 X-villains? I don't really count Emma as a villain. Maybe Mystique or Apocalypse? Mystique could actually make crazy use of the format, I'd like to see what they come up with.

Apocalypse is already getting his MTO figure and that’s good enough for me. Also 290 ft for stilt man is like 29 ft tall in 1/12 scale. That’s way too big. That’s practically a 3 story building.
