Marvel Legends Gamerverse

Was it really necessary to take it apart? I was just going to paint.
Not really. I would recommend just painting. Part of the reason I took the legs apart was to coat all the areas around the knee with superglue first so his knees aren't so rubbery. Which did turn out helpful but it didn't magically make it sturdy. That and I wanted to use a spray sealant and didn't want the sealant on the rest of his body.

Shuma-Gorath hype update: Hype levels remain sky-high. Efforts to level expectations have failed miserably and been abandoned.

During the livestream reveal of this wave, wasn't it speculated (maybe by Robo?) that they were covering up an unrevealed character on the back of Shuma's box? Curious if anything comes of that.

I hope it’s colossus. We’ve needed a proper 90’s era colossus for awhile now. And I know we have the one from the 80th 2-pack but that’s technically not accurate to this particular era of 90’s comics. In the 90’s Colossus’s costume had armored up gauntlets and boots. The one we have is pretty much the Giant Sized era costume with an “X” insignia on his belt

I don't remember that, but in the review below he shows the back of the box. The characters shown on the Marvel vs Capcom mockup screen are Silver Samurai, Shuma-Gorath, Wolverine, and Juggernaut. That leads me to believe that whatever was being covered up was incidental.

I do remember Robo and some others making a point about how Dwight held the box and "may have been concealing something."

I believe it was one of the corners and it "could have" had the Capcom logo. Robo pointed out how the box was held, and someone else went in depth on their channel about the Capcom logo and font and how it could fit, yadda yadda.

With the announcement of Bandai also doing “Gamerverse” figs as part of their SHF line, I don’t think that could remotely be the case anymore. And I was one of the folks postulating that it could be the Capcom logo on the back of the box. But I recently learned on Kaiju Daddy’s livestream during the announcement of the Gamerverse Spider-Man, apparently the “Gamerverse” branding is owned entirely by Marvel. So we won’t see any Capcom characters even in the overseas line, just marvel characters based on the Capcom style. (no word yet if this also correlates to the 3D era Marvel vs Capcom games) So yeah if we won’t even be seeing Capcom characters release in SHF and it’s technically an overseas company this should be fair game in Japan if we are being completely honest. But if Marvel has full control and doesn’t want to include any Capcom characters in this line that is meant for an overseas audience, then they surely won’t do it here. Especially not while Jada has the property

This is the way.

I’m so damn close to having a complete Capcom Marvel Superheroes roster in plastic form (my own customs notwithstanding), and nothing is derailing the hype train. Can’t goddamn wait.

Capcom and Marvel would be two totally separate licenses. Capcom licensed the characters from Marvel for those games back in the day, so they aren't connected from a legal standpoint in any country. It's not that Marvel "doesn't want to include any Capcom characters"...they have no say in it. If SHF wanted to make figures of the Capcom owned characters, they'd have to get a separate license from Capcom, and branding anything as "Marvel vs. Capcom" would probably be a legal nightmare that no company would want to undertake. The whole "Gamerverse" branding is a way of getting around such legal headaches for Marvel to have products based on various videogame properties, but that ONLY applies to the Marvel owned characters. If SHF decides to make Capcom figures, they could certainly pursue that license separately. They likely won't ever be under the Marvel vs. Capcom banner though, in any country.

In the US, the fact that Jada holds the license for Capcom characters, while Hasbro has the Marvel license, makes it even more impossible for anything to happen under a single banner. The best that fans can hope for is the Jada and Hasbro offerings to be somewhat compatible scale and style wise (I don't have any of the Jada stuff, so I can't speak to this).

Everything you said about the separate licenses is right, but it's worth noting that Bandai has been licensing Capcom Street Fighter characters and making figures for them since around 2017. They've been releasing them periodically ever since, and I think they released a few earlier this year. I know for sure they released a few in 2024.

Since Bandai licenses from both companies I was wondering whether or not they'd be able to use the Marvel vs Capcom brand name on Cyclops and Spidey, but nope, they didn't probably for the legal reasons you outlined.

Just putting that stamp on a box probably means that both Capcom and Disney are due royalties, so I don't blame them. It just doesn't make sense unless a company wanted to pursue two-packs or something like Toy Biz did back in the day.

It's so dumb. Both companies benefit from that brand, and both suffer from third parties being unable to use it. Both Capcom and Marvel should do everything they can to keep that brand going, but instead they grub for pennies while losing dollars in opportunity cost.

Interestingly the last time Hasbro made figures they did use the cross-company branding, but they also used the GamerVerse brand name as well. Maybe it cost too much paying both companies for the Marvel vs Capcom branding since they didn't do this for long.

I'd imagine Jada having the license in the States makes the whole thing a lot more complicated. I agree though....seems like money left on the table.
